I am glad you made this. VCV and Bitwig are the two creative tools I focus most of my attention on.

Great Video sir! You've been one of THE greatest sources of info and help for Bitwig since day 1. Thanks for doing what you do buddy :) I've been following you for a long time and your bids are awesome. I never even heard of this modular synth till today (somehow). Did you ever submit a track to be bundled with Bitwig? I really think you should bro!

Since you're the grid expert: What do you think are the main differences between the grid and vcv rack. Does it even make sense to invest in it since bitwig comes with a modular system?

That's THE question !
@PolarityMusic2 жыл бұрын
grid is way more hands on, making music in the moment. vcv is a timehog, but can be interesting if you want to explore. grid is probably all you ever need: a fine grained and focused selection of useful modules. vcv has a module dev sdk and is a endless river of modules with topics all over the place. its all depends on how focused you are writing music or if you just want to explore.
@septuleptum2 жыл бұрын
VCV is more focused on emulating the real world, it has a large number of modules that actually exist, it uses exactly the same paradigm with voltage, cables, communication with real modules in a sense looks more logical as well, and so on.
@NuwandaBoy2 жыл бұрын
use whatever you feel more comfortable with: I find vcv a bit more intuitive only because I know what modules I want to use and narrow down my choices but it can be daunting if you go rogue trying to explore new stuff, the grid is more focused and more primal in its building blocks and is 100% integrated with bitwig which is a big big plus same goes for Reaktor blocks although the latter seems to me a tad less appealing than the other 2

Personally, I've only just started delving into VCV (now that 2 is out and it's finally a VST). I've already used Voltage Modular quite a lot though. Indeed, the Grid is perfect when you know what you want to do and want to get there quickly. It's utilitarian, fast, to the point. VCV (and Voltage Modular) are more exploratory, much deeper, can be much more satisfying to get lost in for hours. But to me, making actual music with it is often just a side effect or not even that important at all.

Thank you again for this great video. This might not pertain to this video, but do you think sending Audio from Bitwig (say Sample Libraries sampled from original instruments & Key Mapped Multi Layers) to External CV Modules, using a DC coupled Audio interface with multiple ins and outs, would really give these VST type instruments a more analog, rich sounding tone, like a well designed synthesizer, or staying ITB is just as good. I am just thinking of the computer, daw as a big Digital Data(infinite storage) center, but it being controlled by CV, to give it a bigger and complex sound. I hope that makes sense, something like the older Emu samplers would give us back some decades ago. Thank You!

thanks for showing! I just didnt get vcvrack running once without problems (latency cracks mainly) after trying multiple times over the years i heard of it… would be interesting if thats better with the update… the one man and nit accepting patches development strategy makes it an open source project but not really a community development thing. so not sure if thats what i need…

You can never be sure what in VCV will send bitwig into an endless crash reload loop, and once you do there's no undoing whatever might have triggered this without reloading a saved patch. I'm curious if anyone is able to add Ochd from Instruo without this happening? It'd be reassuring to know this is not a wide spread thing. I'm patching on pins and needles over here! Edit: great video as always by the way. Sorry for the unrelated whining in your comments

Interesting approach! If I were to answer the question: for me it's VCV or nothing, given the huge investment in modular one should have to do and the endless possibilities of VCV.

I can buy one only in this sale season. Either Bitwig or VCV. As for the daw, I have Live 10 standard and Studio One 4. Can get Bitwig for as cheap as it gets for around £204. I really like Poly grid and the modulation capabilities of Bitwig but at the same time I want to get the vst version of VCV. Oh, so hard to decide!

i bought it last week and it took me til today to figure out that theres a rightclick menue showing the clockdivider settings of the midi-cv module :D life of a modularnoob i guess^^. i almost went nuts tryin to get the drums running faster [to abletons clock in my case^^), and after i even figured out how to connect the drum modules correctly to sequencers...vcv2 basics are badly needed here, would be nice, if you could provide some no matter if its on bw4. i got a bw4 license recently.
@duncanmaclennan96242 жыл бұрын
is there another way to clock a sequencer inside VCV? So i can use the midi from bitwig to come out from the MIDI-CV converter ......
@PolarityMusic2 жыл бұрын
you can use the clock or clock/n outputs to sync.
@pyatinalexey56802 жыл бұрын
Polarity and did you notice that after the vst vsv rack , the midi trigger disappears ...as a rule, the midi signal passes through all devices in Bitwig...and after the end of the rack, does he disappear???
@PolarityMusic2 жыл бұрын
yes, wrap the vst into a container (ctrl + g or use a chain container) or add a cv->midi device in vcvrack and connect in and output

How come you use the single note approach for sync and not just the built in clock/n to do the same?
@PolarityMusic2 жыл бұрын
i wanted to show the relation between a note in bitwig and the cv system. you can also alter the notes in bitwig easily and influence the gate signals. but sure, if you only need a sync signal then clk or clk/n is perfectly fine too.
@frakfeem2 жыл бұрын
The midi module you are using has a clock/clock divider output, there's no need for the clip/gate and many other modules/steps you used.
@PolarityMusic2 жыл бұрын
there’s also no need to use a modular system in the first place. Or to make music at all.
@frakfeem2 жыл бұрын
@@PolarityMusic Well of course, you're free to use it how you please. However, if you're just trying to get a clock signal there there's not much point in reinventing it and wasting a track/clip for that. Wasn't trying to offend you, just thought perhaps you didn't see it.
@PolarityMusic2 жыл бұрын
all good. the notes can be altered and the gate/voct signal changes with it. I wanted to show the connection between notes and signals in the rack. if you only need a clock and nothing else, then sure you can use the clock divider output.

in: I show that at 8:02 out: by audio (and then using audio rate modulators in bitwig) or midi (cv -> midi/cc module)
