I like that JM wanted this challenge and looks forward to leading us into the future. Kudos to Kevin Blu for getting him.

Let’s be real here: the MNT needs these games, these type of competition. They can’t grow that much more within CONCACAF and be expected to move beyond the group stage at WC. It’s gonna be tough but this is the only way to learn, make mistakes, adapt and grow. I mentioned on YT a couple of years ago that this is exactly what’s been lacking in WC prep. Here’s to that journey. 🇨🇦 ⚽️ ❤

Tbh main thing holding CMNT back has been lack of strong competition hurting us where we are weakest - CB and GK

Expectations are clear: make progress and reach the team's potential in 2026. What does that look like? Cause Copa America group A opponents some problems. Win a match or get a couple of ties. Advance and it's a big win. Then focus on reaching the championship match of the 2025 Gold Cup, or at the very least, a SF berth. Same for Nations League in 2025. Then in 2026, qualify out of group play and win a R32 match at home. Canada's ceiling for 2026 is a QF berth, but falling short of that will still be considered a great success.
@Sides99Ай бұрын
Fully agree. I would just say that, on top of great success = knockout rounds in both Copa and WC, to get at least 1 CONCACAF trophy next year (NL and/or GC). In any case, with this stacked summer let's hope Canada finishes this year on a high with a semi-final berth in the NL. In any case, exciting times!
@djknox2Ай бұрын
@@Sides99 Yes agreed that a CONCACAF trophy should be the objective, but am not sure they will be ready to do that in 2025. They will certainly reach the next NL SF, but the USA and Mexico are still formidable opponents for this team...

The big expectation is the recruiting of undecided dual-national Canadians to play for the Canadian Men's Team...GET OUR CANADIAN BOYS LUCA KOLYOSHO, MOHAMMED FARSI, AND DANIEL JEBBISON capped!!! We already lost Tomori, Stefan Mitrovic, Marcelo Flores, Morris who would all be in our current starting 11. This is a big big problem. We can guarantee them starting 11 roles in 2 major tournaments Copa and WC.
@djknox2Ай бұрын
@@maxlalonde3705 Agreed but the focus must be on specific needs. Mitrovic or Flores would have been very useful whereas I don't see where Kolyosho or Jebbison helps over what we have. We need a strong tall CB and we need a couple qualify midfielders, both CAM and CDM. Not sure about Farsi...

@@BC-th3mx You seem to not understand sports. A team changes players over time, so past performance does not predict future performance. If it did, Italy wouldn't have missed the last two World Cups.. I will agree with you however that Canada could continue to lose at the World Cup - I just don't think it's likely, and after all, this thread is about expectations. You can have yours, and I will have mine. Based on the talent and improved depth this team now has, my expectation is that they will start to accumulate results at major tournaments. As for your point about the US, I have no idea what it was you were trying to say?

Yeah, coaching Alphonso Davies, Cyle Larin, Stephen Eustaquio, Allistair Johnston, Tajon Buchanan and JoDavid is quite the career ending move.

7:45 let me tell you about one of the "easier opponents" Chile. Albania qualified for Euro 2024 and thought it was a good idea to schedule a friendly with 🇨🇱. Chile won that match 3-0.

Clearly no one views this comment as having much context if any lol

My timestamp was a bit off so I adjusted it. Other than that, I just wanted to emphasize that the level of play among CONMEBOL national teams as a confederation is *phenomenal* ! There is no shame in losing to Peru or Chile.

Can't see it. Soccer is a very international sport. All that is needed is commitment and dedication for a few years.

I think soccer people are WAY too full of The Premier League. One doesn't need to play there nor coach there to have a fulfilling career. One's next job is all about quality of life: not only pay, but quality of life, location, compatibility with colleagues, job security, perks and time off. Getting a multi-million dollar payout to coach a national team with a significant ceiling sounds pretty damn attractive to me. Who wants to be in the trenches week in and week out in the UK - which incidentally is not the greatest place to live?
@brando7266Ай бұрын
Plus he gets to coach in a Copa America and a world cup, even if he flops at the Copa America?

Most people would rather live in the UK than Canada..

@@ian_r125 I agree, u have quick access to the rest of Europe , if I lived in Europe, I would go to the European championship in Germany,
@djknox2Ай бұрын
@@ian_r125 That's very debatable. But my point wasn't that Canada is a better place to live (although I think it is). My point is that the UK isn't all that great to live. I was just there for 3 weeks.
@djknox2Ай бұрын
@@brando7266 Precisely. Participate in a Copa America, a Gold Cup, 2 Nations Leagues and host a Word Cup. AND, your scheduled work is actually only 6 windows per year, with the rest of the time work being Flex, based out of Toronto and travelling. Unless one is an egomaniac, I don't see the downside at all.
@MikeyLikesIt619Ай бұрын
It seems like you are taking Charlie Davies out of context. Also remember that him and Charlie were on a podcast together up untill yesterday. Charlie is saying that moving to an international job could hinder his ability to get back into the premier league. MLS would obviously be a lesser job than any EPL job.

Favourite nations or countries to lift the Copa American trophy Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
@jacoblind5390Ай бұрын
What? Chile is nowhere near a favorite. It’s Argentina, Brazil, Uraguay, and Colombia followed by Ecuador then the US. Then you get the likes of Chile, Venezuela, and Mexico.

This whole discussion seems so "Toronto" to me. When will you Canadians get over this obsession with what some American thinks about you? And BTW, if you don't perform in whatever job, it's bound to hurt your career. Canada or anywhere else.

Does anyone, really anyone on the planet, give a f*ck about what Charlie Daniels says about anything? A mediocre player commenting on someone else? Who cares really?
