DAY 93. 100DOD CAN JESUS BE GOD IF HE PRAYED TO GOD? One of the statements from the scriptures the muslims use as a bait to emphasize that Jesus is not God is when christ cried, "My God, My God, why art thou forsaketh me?" When he was hung on a cross. But in actual sense he was quoting Psalm 22:1 and this is important because christ was trying to let them know that they think they've had him but what they were doing was actually part of the plan. Psalm 22:7-8, 16-18. God works with people [the Old Testament writers] to give prophetic utterances which are relevant to their current conditions and also relevant to what he was going to do with the salvation plan in Christ. God has been several steps ahead, especially in his salvation plan. Psalm 2, Acts 4:27, Hebrews 10:7. The jews thought they were stopping christ by having him crucified just as how the muslims think they are canceling christianity by saying Jesus is not God. Christ had equal glory with God even before the world was formed, and in essence, christ is God. John 17:5-10.

DAY 93: CAN JESUS BE GOD IF HE PRAYED TO GOD? Some Muslims posit that Jesus since Jesus prayed to God on the cross, He therefore was not God. However, Jesus was not just praying, He was quoting Ps. 22:1 which was in part a prophecy about the things he would go through. And him quoting that Psalm at that time was as if to tell those who were mocking him that although they thought they were thwarting the plans of God by crucifying and mocking Him, it was all part of the sovereign plan of God. Psalm 22:16 "For dogs have surrounded Me, the congregation of the wicked has enclosed me. They pierced my hands and my feet" was a prophetic intimation of the crucifixion. So why did Jesus call God God? It was because of how the prophecy He was quoting was given. The Old Testament prophecies were given in a way that would address the current situation of the time it was given and also be relevant to the salvific work of God in Christ. The Psalm was relevant to David in a context (David called God, God). Hence, for people to know that Jesu was referring to a Psalm of David, He (Jesus) had to quote the Psalm the way it was because the way to reference a part of the Bible in those days was to read the first verse. In spite of the plans of the people of the world against Christ, God was several steps ahead. Everyone who tried to stop God ended up fulfilling His purpose. The prayers of Jesus in John 17 further proves that He is God and not discredit it. Jesu prayed because in His position on earth, He had laid His glory and deity aside, took on the form of a man, was truly man, hence, He depended on the Father. He could be hungry, thirsty, could die and indeed dies. It was in this position (Kenosis) He prayed. John 17:10 : And all I have is Yours, and all You have is mine, And glory has come to me through them. What kind of a prophet could have made this claim? John 17:5 : And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. Jesus' origin was not in the incarnation. He had equal glory with God before the beginning of the world, hence, He is God.

100 DOD: DAY 93✅ The fact that Jesus prayed doesn’t contradict the Christian position that he is indeed God. Jesus called God - God quoting psalm 22:1 making reference to the prophesy by the psalmist pointing to them that him hanging on the cross was all part of God’s plan. In Jesus taking up flesh, he became fully man and depended on the father ….. hence the prayer; this doesn’t contradict his deity. Thank you, Pastey ❤️🔥

Thank you so much sir for this teaching on this question. I have been asked this question but in a different manner: "Why does Jesus pray to the Father if the Trinity are one?" Two other questions I have been asked and also curious are: If Jesus is God, why does devil tempt Jesus if God is Holy? Why does Jesus not know when is the time of Judgement if the Trinity are One and Jesus is God? Thank you so much sir for the doctrinal teachings and clarifications. It is true that our generation are questioning the legitimacy of the Word. Sometimes curiosity, often times pride. Lord is your Shepherd and Keeper always.

Hi. Jesus had a body when he came to earth and had a flesh like us humans. He was holy in that He did not sin but could be tempted by the devil because he had a body. Temptations appeal to the flesh, you know? Temptation is not sin, but yielding to it is. Hope this helps!

Can Jesus be God if He prayed to God?-Apostle Emmanuel Iren. This is a question a lot of Muslims ask. They believe that if Jesus said, My God My God why have thou forsaken me then He is not God Mark 15:34. Some people also opine that the reason he was calling God in that context was because he took our place in substitutionary atonement. They believe that because he took our place in sin, he was separated from God, they also believe that the sun going down was indicative of the fact that God had turned his back on Him. But that's not happening here. The deeper explanation is that Jesus was quoting Psalm 22. This is important because Jesus is letting them know that this was all part of God's plan. The people were fulfilling prophecy without knowing. Jesus was quoting the scripture to remind them that they were acting according to the plan in such a way that in retrospect after everything was fulfilled they could read back and understand what he was saying. Why did Jesus call God God? The way Old Testament prophecy works is that God works with the Old Testament writers in such a way that in many instances the utterances were relevant to their current condition but also relevant to what he was going to do in His Salvation plan, so their was a context to which this psalm of David was relevant in the time of David. Jesus said my God because a way to reference a part of the Bible in those days was to read the first verse, the old testament was not in chapters and verses and so the only way to reference a chapter was to read the first verse. Jesus was drawing their attention to what we now call Psalm 22 and in that chapter, David called God God. There are some things in Psalm 22 that do not apply to Jesus e.g. Vs9&10 but the import of prophecy was that it pointed forward but was also relevant to the life of the person. In Psalm2:1-4 we understand that in spite of the plans of the people of the world against Christ, God was several steps ahead just laughing. This is why Jesus is in a seemingly unfortunate position on the cross and he quotes Psalm 22 as if to say it's all a part of the plan, you cannot catch God unawares. The same way the Jews thought they were stopping Jesus by crucifying Him is the same way Muslims think they are proving Christianity wrong by quoting Jesus saying my God my God why hath thou forsaken me but they are proving it right. A common mistake they make is quoting the text out of context. John 17:5 proves that Jesus had equal glory with God before the world was. Jesus prayed because the Christian position is the theological terminology The fact that he laid aside his deity and took the form of a man and in that position like a man he was dependent on the Father. He prayed he could be hungry and he could die. The fact that Jesus prayed does not contradict the Christian position, it confirms it.
