The thing about Tendulkar is he was terribly out of form in his last 25 tests, he didn't score a single hundred between 175 and 200 tests, while averaging in the mid twenties. His overall test average, which was nearly 57 after 175 tests, shrunk to 53 after 200 tests. It was clear that Tendulkar just kept playing for the record 200 tests, and had it been any other player from any other country he would have been dropped, but not Tendulkar because it was India and he was treated as a god in India and was "undropable". Not every batter will be so out of form in the last several tests. The point that I am trying to make here is if Joe Root plays even 70% of what he is playing right now, and plays for another 5 years, he will break the number of test runs of Tendulkar, and also come very close to breaking the highest test century record as well.
