Can Justin Jefferson surpass Randy Moss? PFF's Sam Monson breaks it down.

Jefferson is a great, but not the freakish athlete Moss was. That said, he's already surpassed Moss as a wide receiver. Why? He's willing and excellent at running the entire route tree. He'll go anywhere on the field to make plays, including across the middle, and he doesn't check himself out of halves if his number isn't called on the first drive. Saw every game Moss ever played for the Vikings, and when his head and heart was into it he was nearly unstoppable, but Jefferson brings it every time.

It’s a different game now. More passing and worse defenses. Moss scores td on a significantly fewer attempts. If Moss played now he’d have 2,000 yards seasons damn near every year especially with additional games.

Jefferson might surpass Moss’s career, but he doesn’t scare defenses like Moss could. You have to respect and plan for Jefferson but Moss struck fear into defensive coordinators. I also don’t think Jettas has the same potential as Rice, as I’ve never seen him take over a game the way that Rice routinely did, particularly in the playoffs where he was unstoppable. Jettas is an elite route runner with excellent body control and concentration. If he can unlock that next level where he dominates opponents then he could become an all time great if he stays healthy and has an extended career. Far too early to project though. For now, he is a top 3 current NFL receiver. Lets give it some time before we start talking about him in the same stratosphere as Carter or Moss. Lots of guys pop up for 3 or 4 seasons before fading into obscurity.

No one will ever come close to Randy Moss! If you're talking about stats, then yes. If we're talking about whether JJ will ever surpass Randy as far as changing the game, it's not even close. If you understand defense, Randy change the defenses scheme where he stractehs the field and open up the middle and underneath pass.

Some crazy talk in these comments. You’d all be losing your minds if someone was trying to compare Davante Adams to Randy Moss. Jefferson is simply peak Adams. Lets give it a few years before crowning his ass. Lots of Adams, Kupp, Brown, Hill pop up as the guy for a few seasons before fading away. Jefferson is a reliable target and produces yards and catches. But he isn’t a big play threat, doesn’t score much, and isn’t someone that defenses have to completely game plan around more than other top WRs in the league. I’d argue that Hill is far scarier for DCs than Jettas. And Hill isn’t close to being the game wrecker that Moss or, even moreso, Rice were. Those guys were special talents that could flip the script. Moss could score on any play. Rice could completely take games over and was virtually unstoppable in big games. Jettas is fun to watch and a polished receiver but he isn’t much of a difference maker so far. I think his one highlight was the Bills game. He didn’t do much in the playoffs and can be shutdown by the best CBs. Shrug.

The Bears ruining Fields is such a tired and incorrect narrative. The only one who ruined Fields is God, by giving him a slow release and an inability to read coverage after the snap. The same two things that allowed him to fall in draft. The only way he could succeed is in a one read , running offense. Which would last about three years till the injuries caught up with him. Even then, a quality defense with an athletic linebacker spy would be sufficient to stop him... He was never going to be a quality, long time starter.

Jefferson is a once a lifetime game wrecker. DCs have to game plan entirely around stopping him. He doesn’t just run Go routes or toe tap - he runs every route on the tree and catches everything in every coverage. If he stays healthy - GOAT.

I don't know, man. Jefferson has already broken Moss' records thus far. As long as he continues on this trajectory, he'll easily end up being regarded as not only our best WR but the best WR in history. He's just got to keep producing and stay in the game. And, truthfully, he doesn't even have to be quite as good as he's been and he'll STILL go down as the best ever. He's that damn good. Moss will still have his mythology and Carter will still be in the top 5, but Jettas is clearly the best imo. The ONLY place I'd like to see his increase is his TDs. Oh, he also needs to keep his head screwed on straight.

He's surpassed Moss's yards and catches. BFD. If Moss had these rules he would have averaged 150 YPG and 2 TDs per game. Jefferson is very good, but he's not Jerry Rice or Randy Moss.

@@TristanandIsoltit’s actually not as different as you think from now to back in ‘07 when moss was with Brady. There were 23 guys in the 1000 yard club and this year there were 28. I think ppl underrate still how hard it is to get 1800 yards in a single season like jets did in 2022. Moss only surpassed 1500 once in his career. Jj has done it twice. I feel like the difference in yardage between now and mid 2000’s is maybe at best 200 yards in a single season.

Jefferson’s game is built for longevity, injury notwithstanding. Where Moss was a freakish athlete the NFL hadn’t seen before, Jefferson is a technician with incredible athleticism. When Moss’s athleticism deteriorated and teams drafted more speed and height at DBs, his game fell off a cliff. As Jefferson gets slower as he ages, he’s still going to be that clutch completion guy because of his technical prowess. I agree with Sam, if Jefferson surpasses Moss, it will be through longevity.
