​@@allykhan8594 There are currently two options for this country. 1. austerity is continued. So limited borrowing, high taxes (except if you're very wealthy, of course), limited spending. This is STILL the direction 14 years after it was taken following the financial crash. Where has this lead to? Ironically, increased debt. The reason is very simple. If you don't actively invest, you don't have returns that you can pay the debt with. It's like having your car give out in the middle of your trip to work, and instead of calling a mechanic and paying to fix it so that you can reach work and get paid, you push the car to work and miss out on 2 days' worth of pay. 2. austerity is discontinued. Borrowing is increased, taxes for working people are lowered, spending is increased. This leads to a healthier populace that can participate in the economy (as a foreigner, the amount of sick and people unable to work or who have disabilities or mental health issues in the uk is mind-blowing, no wonder productivity is low). If people are happy and they know they have a future to look ahead to, society starts to function again. Businesses are more confident that they'll have a healthy pool of workers to choose from, and generally, the cogs will start turning in all aspects of society. All in all, it's a diseased outlook on life that austerity is inevitable, because austerity IS a disease. It slows down progress, it erodes all good things, and there's no good reason that the UK should be continuing it, ironically even more so that its debt is very high, because only without austerity will that debt to gdp ratio ever get better.

The proposal to nationalise the railways will require definition as to the billions involved. NO nationalised rail system has ever existed without massive public investment on a permanent basis. Please don’t mention the Mussolini myth it was exactly that. Very little ran on time!
