Messi doesn`t need to win the World Cup to be considered the GOAT. The World Cup only happens every 4 years and is won by a team that is lucky enough to have the better players born in their country and to have the right coaching and systems in place. In other words, there is a large element of luck to a person winning a world cup. That is a fucked up way to determine the quality of a single player. The performances that Messi has put in with his club has a much larger bearing on whether he is the greatest, and his performances over the past decade suggest that he is rightly considered one of the best, if not THE best of all time.

Winning the cup is a team effort. One guy can’t win a cup no matter how good he is. What GOAT means is the most skilled and talented player in the world, and you decide that from watching a player in action in a game. For ten minutes of what he does with possession of the ball and positioning strategically and scoring individual goals etc. And no one can do those things like Messi can, by far, ergo Messi is definitely the GOAT.

A lot of people are getting confused in the comments about this whole World Cup/Champions League comparison. The debate was about which is a higher level of football, not which is a greater achievement. The World Cup is the highest achievement you can possibly win in football but, all things considered, the Champions League has a higher standard of football. Club teams aren't restricted by the nationality of their players and they have the best part of 9 months to build cohesion in the team which ultimately leads to better football.
