What a well written and respectful request letter you sent! Maybe the Board could possibly make an amendment to the rule that states if the 5 year old has actually walked the whole trail (which you could prove by your videos) that they could grant special requests. Harvey certainly has proved his stamina (especially in the snow) throughout your journey. So happy for you. I admit I shed a tear of relief as I have been following your vlogs daily. Hooray from NH.

He, like Buddy, who hiked the whole thing (well up til now), they are both true hikers who really walked those miles and miles and miles. BTW, I really appreciated how you all approached this not as prima donnas (sadly like another family) and approached them with respect. I do see the reasons for sure, but also why Little Man is an exception (and exceptional boy). Would be cool for you all to meet Buddy and his family some day. BTW, did know of this rule--I also felt the Baxter staff was very caring and measured.

Harvey, as I am an AT thru-hiker? I find you absolutely amazing young man. What you have accomplished? Most adults who try cannot do it. If I would have had to, if Baxter refused? I would have gathered many of my AT and hiking friends and we would have made sure you could have gotten there. Personally? I would have come and put you on my back and carried you up the top. You are amazing Harvey. So are your parents.

I am so happy for you. The Crawford family (Family of 8) in 2019 completed the trail with Rainer the youngest who was 3 at the time and carried the whole way was not given permission to summit. That was a huge blow to the family.

Big difference. Rainier was only 2 at the time and hadn't walked even a mile of the trail. Harvey hasn't been carried even once. He's done the whole trail on his own.

I understand why they have this age rule--but it's so arbitrary--why not 8? 10? It's clear that exceptions should be made for anyone who's shown they have the grit and determination to hike the mountain successfully. And Harvey surely qualifies ten times over.
