Living in Ohio, Antique 107 comes in about once a month and is only about $60 w/ tax. I think it's the better bottle but 101 is a great buy too. Can't go wrong with either!

46 Cask Strength would definitely give 107 a run for its money, and a good Maker's pick would beat both of them for our palates I bet.

So as soon as this video dropped, I decided not to watch it just yet and actually do an at-home blind of my own Weller Antique 107 & MM101, and then see how my rankings and tasting notes compared with yours. My experience was near identical as what you two had! I got a saturated dark fruity nose with a full bodied palate and spicy finish with the Weller, and a vanilla & maple syrupy nose on the MM101, with the palate being a pleasant sweet oak but a bit thin and short on the finish. The Antique 107 won out and in fact it’s won several other blinds I’ve tossed it into. Excellent choice in matching these two H2H! Looking forward to your next double-blind matchup. PS. for what it’s worth, my go-to apples at the grocery store are always either honeycrisp or fuji 😄🍎🍎

Weller 107 is $60 here in my area of Ohio about every other Saturday if you stand in line for the drop. Have not tried the Makers yet, but always pick up the 107, one of my favorites.

Both great bottles. I remember reading when Sazerac/BT started jacking the price aggressively on Antique (and added a cork) in late 2018/early 2019 that they were repositioning it to go against MM Cask Strength. Since MMCS is usually around 108-112 proof that might be another interesting blind.

Nice episode. Unfortunately, in my market this is much more of a David v Goliath match-up. If you ever see WA107, it's easily a $180+ bottle. The MM101 is a shelfer at $42, and down into the low $30 on sale. (And if you want more proof, the MM-C/S is generally $49.) Cheers.

The MM101 is absolutely a hitter vs other 100 or 101 proof bourbons aged less than 8 years. But in my town, I have to go to one specific store to find the MM101, where it is always on the shelf. WA107 is unobtainium.

I have been able to find a couple bottles of Weller 12 close to MSRP this year. OA 107 has been unobtainable at less than stupid prices. I wouldn't pay $100 for either much less $150-$175 in the secondary groups.

I was at a party earlier this year and there was a bottle share. I had never had a high end whiskey (or appreciated it) after drinking a ton of bourbon in college. The Weller 107 stood out significantly against the others to me (and I knew nothing about it). So much so I started researching bourbons and bought a few different bottles this year. And thus I am here watching your channel

Yeah, MM 46 Cask Strength ~110P is $60 here & Weller A107 is $150+ outside of a lottery win. Also, Larceny Brl Prf is $55-60. So wonder if Weller 107 would win against those 2 options, even if you could get it at $60/retail.

MM Cask Strength is a better comparison because there always 108-110 proof or in a better range than 101. Viscosity is way better also. Cheers

Thanks! Cask Strength would have been closer in proof but we haven't loved our last couple of bottles from a flavor profile standpoint. Maker's 46 Cask Strength may give 107 a run for its money though.

Never gonna happen truthfully. 😂 As much as she can appreciate a good pour, and as good as her palate is, she just doesn’t bother committing any of the nerdy whiskey stuff to memory. If it weren’t for the social aspect she probably wouldn’t even drink whiskey but it’s her go-to social beverage.

The Makers 101 is a standby bottle for me. One of the few that I think is worth spending the money to always have a bottle and a backup on hand.

I like both, but owa tastes better to me than comparable makers products. Owa isn't worth the hype though regardless. 100+ for owa is stupidity I think.

I've had MM101 and WA107 and the weller just isn't as interesting on the palate, it's sweeter to be sure but that's it, sweet and smooth. The MM has a bit more going on even though it has a little less polish. I can get MM101 for $35 and even if 107 was on the shelf right next to it for $35... I would maybe only buy the weller once or twice a year but I'd buy the MM101 3-4 times a year. WA107 is a red delicious and MM101 is a honeycrisp.

I buy MM 101 often. I like the cask strength also Weller is impossible to get so I’m a MM Guy. And I’m okay with that.

In Southern California, you can't find allocated or any Weller products at MSRP. At least I have not been able to find it. Antique 107 under $150 would be a gift in So Cal. Please let me know if anyone can get it below that price here.

It’s definitely tough to come by in most markets. For us it usually takes being at stores on delivery day (which is the last Wednesday of each month for our market, but that day will vary by market, and that’s providing stores actually selling them for what they’re supposed to be sold for).

great blind. Weller I can find occasionally of 150-200 plus. makers 101 is easy and about 37.99.... the cask at 110 is only 5 bucks more. That would be a great blind. the Cask strength vs the 107.

I really like WA107 but I drink MM about 5-10 times as much given the price and availability. I think MM 46 cask strength would be an even better match to WA107. I'd love to get another WA107, bought my last one 4 years ago and paid too much.

I love WA107, but can’t find it for under $150 in a 300 mile radius from me. MM101 is a solid runner up and a serious bang for the buck at $40 and is readily available.

I had to trade to get the one bottle of OWA that I have 'cause I can't find it for less than $400 in my area, which is insane in the membrane. Yes, it's good, but it isn't $400 good. Still, I'm nursing that bottle... MM101 is a nice and easy sipper that I have on hand at all times, and a good intro to wheaters for newbies.

Any idea how the sweetness level of Weller 107 compares to Russell's Reserve SiB shelfer?

Good question. It's a different sweetness. Weller leans more toward the fruity sweet side and Russell's leans into more of the candy bar sweet side. All depends on if you prefer fruity whiskey or darker sweetness.

We have! And we've done a barrel pick with them as well. Some of their products and single barrels can come across a bit grain-forward but some of them are downright amazing. We'd love to pick another single barrel with them soon.

Makers Cask Strength would probably be a better comparison. I find it to be quite a bit more flavorful than the 101 without being overly sweet. The 46 Cask Strength would challenge the Weller 107 for sweetness.

I like MM of any kind and the 101 is good. I don't see the $40 price you got in my area. For Weller, I see nothing in my area with that name on it that isn't at least $150+ . With the Weller name, it is all hard to find in my area so anytime they get any Weller the price is high.

Favorite Nashville hot chicken joint?

Oh boy, that's a can of worms! Prince's is the original spot so it's difficult not to give the nod to them in some way. For a really quality take on traditional Nashville hot chicken, 400 Degrees takes what Prince's started and has perfected it though, so it would likely be the top choice. For an interesting take on classic hot chicken, our two favorite spots are Subculture (very creative dishes with hot chicken and the best hot chicken and waffles in town) and Pepperfire (they're the only ones that use cumin in the spice profile and it gives it a familiar but unique flavor profile). Those would be the Big 4 in town in our book. There are a ton of small spots that do a great job as well. Hattie B's is the most popular and not even in the Top 10 of good hot chicken spots in town. That's the one we'd recommend steering clear of. It's tourist hot chicken. Not bad by any means, but nowhere near the best.
