To counter balance other's sample size of one: My dad has a severely weakened immune system from cancer, and I feel like the shots saved his life. Almost every time he gets a chest infection he ends up in the hospital. His two bouts with COVID were both short lived and easy. However, our individual examples do not mean anything until added into the average of millions, which shows that the COVID vaccine and boosters *_reduce risk of death and hospitization._* It does not guarantee a person won't get sick anyway, or you won't feel awful. Every time someone talks about how sick they were I think about how bad it could have been if they weren't vaccinated. We will never know for sure. I don't think we want to know.

“Never know for sure…” Considering how many straight up lost the fight the first two years alone, it’s a safe assumption that those of us paying attention to the numbers have a real good idea. It did have a bonus of making elections easier to win in battleground states.

Its an interesting test of this kinda of tech, but I am not too optimistic about it. I participate in a COVID study among people in the Netherlands. We fill in questionairs and get free tests, which we send in by mail when positive. The government's health services who oversees the study, last reported to us, they see a 50% reduction among the group who is covid vaccinated. You are half as likely to get it, if you have been near someone with a known infection. However, I work in radiotherapy. Last I hear some year or two back, surgery, chemo, immuno and radiotherapy -- all tools we had, produce a very somber prognosis. Like 40% over all survival for patients who get radiotherapy. If I remember correctly, immuno added a couple of percent. The lung cancer vaccine will probably work some - but I dont think its likely to double overall survival for the NSC group... Immuno kicks your immune system into overdrive - and so as a side effect, it may cause inflammation in other organs. Which is then stopped with prednisone - but that also ends immuno therapy. And your next treatment will likely involve some chemo. Lung cancers also metastasise to the brain easily; and if immuno derails in the brain... Given a desperate situation, yes we have to try. But still...

I wonder how the experts thought that having the body produce a non self toxic protein that travels all over the body would not end in an autoimmune attack.
@HexerPsy5 күн бұрын
@@MM-tg1xi I think you might miss some information... Some kinds of immunotherapy remove some of the breaks/lifts regulating systems on your immune system, making it more aggressive and better at finding tumor cells that might otherwise be missed. Its risk are auto-immune effects as a result of overly stimulated immune system - something you can control with other drugs. Every medication has draw backs though - and risks and benefits are always weighed by doctor and patient together. If your life is on the line due to a disease - wouldnt you take more risk? If you dont gamble, you are dead anyway - this might give you a chance at survival, and you ll accept more risk.

For what it's worth, I doubt it was the channel deleting your previous comment. KZbin frequently auto-deletes or hides my comments, including many mundane comments. I think their systems are overly aggressive, which I find very frustrating.

@@dosadoodle Seconded, my comments against makeup ingredient misinformation are often removed by youtube itself despite not being mean nor anti-science. I think it was my posting pattern that the youtube algorithm decided was sus or matching bad actors. If it had been something simple like me accidentally using channel-banned keywords then it wouldn't have shown up as posted in the first place only to be removed a few seconds after. Using channel banned words results in your comment not being posted at all in the first place.

The covid vaccines were effective? After 3 shots my young healthy fit wife got very sick from covid. She recovered from covid but not the 3rd shot
@Adderkleet3 ай бұрын
ADRs do occur and are unfortunate (and for COVID jabs, they were about 0.25% and mostly mild). But yes, they were very effective. Comparing fatality rates in dosed and un-dosed groups is pretty convincing proof.
@mariov50353 ай бұрын
Yes, they were mostly effective. Your wife doesn't represent the entire population.
@jimm86193 ай бұрын
Sorry for your wife's COVID experience, but to make decisions about the effectiveness of vaccines (or lack thereof), you need a sample size of thousands to millions, and not a sample size of one. @Adderkleet is correct that the overall evidence with the appropriate sample size shows that the COVID vaccines did a very good job.
@crashed65103 ай бұрын
Dude literally %70 of the entire population of the world got the vaccine. Like all medical treatments at that high of a scale it will have individuals who do not respond well to it. Besides these vaccines are incredibly safe with 21 cases of the 1.89 million doses experiencing anaphylaxis with 17 of those 21 having a history of allergic reactions.
