What you need to do is upgrade. That transmission n add more clutches. N bigger torque converter. And bigger transmission condenser for cooling it down faster.

I have a 97 3500 all stock... Before I messed with that afc and the fuel plate my truck towed like a dog, felt like I had no power and the transmission was over heating when I would pull my 32' gooseneck. After I messed with the plate, ooh momma she had no problem going up hills and holding her speed. The transmission hasn't gotten to hot as well. I like your build man, hope you get the chance to build up that transmission to preform how you need It to 👍🏼 I plan on putting a 6speed in mine after I finish my 02 Dmax.

Tips when towing stay at 55-60 mph Stay OUT of overdrive at all costs Make sure diff fluid oil transmission fluid have all been changed and are good to go Your biggest issues are 1.not running a setup for towing 2. Stock with 4-5 inch exaust and aftermarket intake and maybe light tune is far better then "race" tunes and turbos 3. If your going to tow frequently upgrade the trans cooler get a towing turbo and tune for towing And make sure you have 4.10s or shorter gears sense lift and towing However these trucks in stock format are safe up to 14k lbs (17k with 3500 model) My recommendation find an old dually 2wd cummins for the 6-8k its worth and use that for towing leave it stock outside of exaust and intake and maybe a tow tune My cousins tow constantly Ive also learned from guys with 24 and 12v cummins that tow 10-15k every day all day and have there cummins without rebuild ip in the 1-2million mile marker Also while towing oil changes go from 7-10k to 2-4k according to cummins

What do you know, put giant tires on a truck and try to fly towing a big enclosed trailer, trans gets too hot. I dont like aftermarket stuff to begin with, but something that hurts performance is a no go for me. Besides just not liking the look imo. Hey, its your shit, do what you want. I just don't get it. What's wrong with really aggressive mud tires the correct size the engineers chose to work with the vehicle? If you're going to go oversize, you have to change gearing to compensate or it will accelerate soooo much slower. Stop so much slower. Sorry for the rant I just get frustrated. Great engine you got there, enjoy it. I have a 96 7.3 and a 06 dmax, thinking about a cummins next. Gotta own all 3 so I can know what there all about to live with for a few years.

I would never haul my goose neck horse trailer with anything but a dually because with that much weight behind you and if your truck slows down faster than your trailer it mite push your rear around Even if you have a truck with enough power to pull it it mite be to small to stop the trailer.
