I’m a licensed vet tech and this is in no way cruel. It’s actually amazing! He’s engaged and learning, while getting treats at the same time! For a dog that will eat quickly, as you mentioned, this is a great way to slow them down so they don’t throw it all back up. Great entertainment for him!

I got a level 2-3 puzzle for a cat last Xmas. He absolutely loved it! He used his voice buttons to demand puzzle treats constantly. The puzzle had options to make it more difficult as the cat understood it better. But he could solve it at level 3 within five minutes. I’m not saying cats are smarter than dogs, but MY Black Jack was brilliant.

I have the same puzzles for my chihuahua mix. That level 2 blue one we upped the difficulty by putting the treat in the hole of the slider. So he has to move the clam shaped lever out of the way, then slide the slider to the hole, move it away from the hole, then get the treat. He solved that as well in under 5 minutes. Dogs are amazingly smart!!

There’s a company that makes an interactive game for dogs, that gets progressively tougher as the dog figures it out. You might get them to send you one for review! I’m envisioning you coming into the room and finding that Obie has disassembled ALL your puzzles looking for more kibble.

Love that you're raising awareness of puzzle feeders for dogs! They're such an important tool for any dog owner and amazing at keeping them happy, stimulated, and tired out! Our chihuahua goes nuts for a puzzle feeder, she's incredibly smart but has zero interest in trick training, so solving problems like this really get her working her brain. A tip for using more advanced feeders is to train in stages so the dog doesn't become frustrated and give up. So first you may have a drawer slightly open, then it's all the way shut, then one of the bones is slightly turned...and so on until all drawers are fully locked.

I think half the fun for Odie is to try and tackle these puzzles together with you. You holding them down means there is some of the good old tug-of-war interaction going, and in my experience dogs of all breeds really enjoy that.

Saw this and had to get some for my cats! They absolutely love it! My one prefers a ball you have to roll and treats fall out But my other cat solved this really complex one. There's a cap that covers a hole, you have to move the cap out of the way and slide an upsidedown cup that's covering a treat over the hole and then move the cup out of the way I even hide treats around the house sometimes for them to hunt down! I'm trying to teach them tricks too like giving a high 5 for a treat or jumping over my arm. They are progressing well! :)

This was so much fun! It's definitely one of my favorite videos that you've made. Obie's just adorable, and it was really interesting watch him problem-solve. It was also hilarious watching him play w/ the second puzzle. I think that level three puzzle was poorly designed, however. The puzzle didn't weigh enough, so it kept sliding around, the drawer handles didn't stick out far enough, and it wasn't far enough off the ground for Obie to get underneath it. The other puzzles were perfect, though, especially the second one, since it set up the conundrum of, "Do I play w/ the hot dog, or do I find and eat the cookie?"

My black lab loves these. We made the 2nd puzzle more difficult by putting a small treat in the peg that holds the flipper. So the dog has to move the peg away move the flipper, then put the peg back over the hole and move it away to get the treat. Makes it last longer than 5 seconds for her.

Now, I'm not a dog psychologist or whatever you'd call it, but I'm almost certain that Obie understood exactly 0% of the mechanics of those puzzles. I'm sure he was just like "oh snap i smells treat lets claw around here a bit and bite everything" and suddenly stuff came out and he was like "yay i gots treat" without thinking anything had anything to do with anything else Also, your dog is so extremely cute words fail me when I try to describe it, please give him all the pats in the world from me

Super cute, made me lol 😂🤣 I have a boxer and he loves puzzles, he loves working for his cookies, his favorite is his cookie ball, he gets to throw, toss and slam it to the floor to get his cookies. He is so excited to find new ways to get them out. It's also fun for me to watch him figure it out, he gets mad when he is out of cookies but still wants to play and he will be 13 yrs old in 4 months. So keep working with Obie he will gain more patience and keep working to understand them, one thing I learned is make one drawer a jackpot drawer (add a few cookies) so he stays excited and engaged.

With the Hide N Slide puzzle you can make it more challenging. You get small treats that fit through the holes of the slides. Then you cover the empty well with the duck foot. Finally you put the slide on the side away from the well and put the treat(s) through the hole. Then your dog needs to move the duck foot out of the way, move the slide over the well, then move it back to get the treat.

First of all, the second level 2 puzzle might as well be a hot dog toy because the moment he saw that thing the treats lost all of their puppy appeal. 🌭💕 I also believe that he would have gotten the level 3 puzzle on his own if you had waited for him to get a little hungry and let him do it all by himself. I don't think your "helping" him was really helping. He's not just a good boy. He's also a smart boy! So smart that he knows if he sits there long enough Daddy will do it for him.

I laughed entirely too hard at the puzzle with the hot dog and cookie. Obie viewed them as the treat/toy so much he forgot about treats. lol. Edit: after watching the whole video....You can tell he is a scent based dog, he goes to where the scent is and just pulls at where the scent is. So the puzzles where its simply flipping or digging where the smell is he is good at. If he has to move something at a location that doesn't smell of treat he ignores.

Proof to me that dogs love the puzzles and they aren’t mean, (besides seeing visibly that they are having fun) is there was a time before I changed food brands that my dog didn’t wanna eat the food cause of the taste.
