i've never played Mittens but it is easy to see each time you make a move Mittens calculate variations leading to the end game where it wins. If that is true, then you must adopt the Data Maneuver; you win without winning. In other words...play each move for a draw and nothing else... This was the same strategy Data used in Strategema against Kolrami in the episode "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Peak Performance (TV Episode 1989)

What I love about this (among other things) is you're constantly anticipating what Mittens's response will be, rather than passively waiting for it. I should adopt this discipline more in my own games.
@lukastux3024 Жыл бұрын
I mean, it's called playing chess. If your decision making isn't backed by concrete variations, you're not playing chess. It's like guessing the answers of a test based on feelings instead of working them out. I would be surprised if you actually could become stronger than 1500 without thinking ahead, anticipating the opponent's move. Always ask yourself "what does he want" GM Vladimir Kramnik even suggests asking what the opponent will do BEFORE thinking about one's own move (in his Chessable course "Thinking in Chess").

16:08 or 16:46 does Qa1 to pin the Queen make any sense? I mean white can ignore it and move the knights, like either Nxf6 or Ne8, so if you capture the queen Qxf1 you still lose a piece... in the first case for free, in the second Kxg7 you win the bishop back at least, but maybe in both cases it's easier to draw without queens. unless the queen could find a perpetual
@Sandfox077 ай бұрын
Its not, in the first example, as you mentioned you lose a piece, in the second example white can just trade and play Nf5 probably, without a queen you cant generate counterplay, the endgame is just lost

Question for learning: At min 4:37, I am more apt to let whites h5 pawn take my G6 pawn so I can retake with my F7 pawn to open up the file for my rook, (knowing I will probably have to use a move to get my king out of the open diagonal). Is my line of thinking there better for rook assisted attack, or am I leaving myself possibly too vulnerable? (more vulnerable than min 4:44?). It will be them leaving a file on the side open to their king? Got any good input for me? Thanks. Doug in Michigan.
@Sandfox077 ай бұрын
Sometimes you just need to calculate, you cant always rely on concepts. In this case, the open f file means nothing, I dont see any follow up for black. On the other hand, White will absolutely destroy black because of the open h-file and also in general blacks king safety is terrible if you let white take on g6
