We did this when we adopted a AMstaff during Covid Lockdowns in Australia. Once after the decompression stage was over, we worked on house rules and slowly letting our Staffy get used to being outside overtime, as eventually I had to go back to work. Has worked well by getting our boy more used to it, has a kennel outside and enrichment stuff to do outside.

you mention the word « puppy » a lot but Could you make videos about things to do when you adopt a staffy. I got mine at 9 months old and missed all his younger puppy life. i’m training him to stay alone but since I didn’t get him from a younger age, things can get tricky

Hey man. Now that a year has gone by, curious how it’s gone with your adopted Staffy. I’m becoming a trucker myself and am looking at adopting a Staffy as my copilot, especially one that’s already 1 year old as they get over car sickness by that age. Would love to hear any tips you might have learned!

I am a disabled veteran in America and a service dog has been recommended for me. I have been researching about this & I have found that the Staffordshire Terrier seems to be an excellent fit. Your videos are extremely helpful. Ty.

Disabled veteran here. 5 years ago around the time I finally got treatment and rated with the VA I adopted a staffy. Due to her age, she couldn’t qualify for the service dog program. But because of the type of dogs they are, when you learn about them. You realize they could be amazing without all that training. Mine is with me everywhere I go. She knows when I’m not right, and will not leave my side in those moments. I feel like I got this dog from God himself. I realize you left this comment months ago, but I hope that you did find yourself with a staffy and that you have realized everything I just mentioned. Another thing….like the war veteran, this breed is highly misjudged and stigmatized by society. And that’s why I feel insanely bonded with this dog more than any other dog I have had in my entire life. We aren’t our best around others….but around each other we are our best 💯

@@lordabstract82 you have a stunning heart. I strong believe Staffy people are a special kind of person. I'm not a Veteran, however due to life's experiences, I suffer badly with CPTSD. I lost my beautiful Staffinator a month ago, and every moment of the day feels just are raw. They are the most personal dog, they get into places of the heart no human can go. I'd really love an update as well, did this Vet get a Staffy?

Fantastic knowledge and skill set Will. We bought our new Staffy Pup home last week and have been watching all your videos to help us to become the perfect canine leader. The biting is an issue and we're now adopting the AH AH method when he chews our hands. We have an 8 and 12 year old which he makes a beeline for to nip! PS. I spy a Marshall Stack... Fellow guitarist here and songwriter if you ever fancy a jam sesh, I'm near Matlock Bath so not far from us. Thanks again mate, top work.

Thank you, that was very helpful and made me feel much better! I got my boy when he was 2months old and never had to crate train him, he jumped right in and nowadays (7months old) as soon as he sees me put my jacket on he goes to his crate straight away. Training in general is fairly easy with him 😍 but I always come to your videos to learn something new

Our wonderful staff adopted from Battersea dogs and cats home in London is rarely left " home alone" as I am disabled and my partner is my carer, so one of us is usually in the house with him. However as a typical staffy he has separation anxiety , so if we do go out for a few hours he is very glad when we return home and we get the full staff greeting. I don't think he or any staff would be a suitable choose of dog if you are likely to be out a great deal . To avoid any damage if you leave your staffy alone provide plenty of robust toys. Our boy will happily play with his toys even when there are humans available to play with.

Now my staffy did absolutely horrible in the crate lol HORRIBLE..... she whined and whined and whined.......until I went and got her....and my girl was resilient. ignoring her did not help. she would whine and whimp 30/45 mins....what help though is when I started leaving her crate door open, so she could come and go as she please......it got better then....now she just sleeps on the sofa at night. She never goes into her crate unless she knows she's in trouble lol

My dog's POV: Of course it is unreasonable to leave me at home by myself. Now human, feed me and scratch my belly. My staffy is 12 months old and has been getting left at home for up to 8-9 hours very occaissionally - usually 5-7 hours (my partner goes to work early an I go to work late) since he was about 6 or 8 months old for maybe a 2 or 3 of days a week. He has an appupment - a pen maybe 2 metres square in the living area with his breakfast if he hasn't finished it, water, bedding and chew toys and that is where he goes when we leave him. He also ALWAYS gets AT LEAST an hours walk in the park and often a run with one of his dog mates before we leave him. We try to leave him with a meaty bone when we leave him alone for more than a few hours, but don't always have one handy. He accepts it well. I used to tell him to get inside and he would do it, now when he sees me getting ready to go into the office - e.g. putting on aftershave, putting on shoes etc he just goes in by himself and won't even come out even if I ask him to or offer him treats. Orignally he didn't want to go into the appupment and we'd have to chase him down or put him on a lead, and then put him in he just sits when we want to put a lead on him. I think originally he was gonna be confined while we were home, but I think once he worked out we were not going to be home he didn't mind going to his appupment. But now he goes in there and will be in there with the door open when we leave and will sometimes still be in it when we get home and some times have left it. TBH I think we was being a very good dog when we first left the door open and thought he wasnt allowed out and we'd made a mistake leaving it open. We stopped using the appupment a couple of months ago, but he kept using it. i.e. we stopped asking him to get in and stopped closing the gate. We left him in the living room which is still puppy proofed, the doors to all other rooms are shut, power cords are out of reach etc, but even now he still goes to his appupoment if he thinks I'm going to the ofifce and for the first few weeks he'd stay in their all day, even with teh door open - at least he was still in their when we got home. It's only been the last few times before Christmas where we've come home and found him on the sofa or otherwise out of the appupment. As far as we know he is not barking or whining all day, but its hard to know for sure. What I do know is he accepts that he will be left and he voluntarily goes where we trained him to go, even now that we don't want him confined. I'm pretty confident he can go up to 24 hours witghout a pee or poop if he is healthy - my old dog a staffy/bully cross did get left over 24 hours inside by himself once due to an accident I had and he was fine. Even when I did get home his first move was to spend time with me - he wouldnt pee until he'd spent about 15 minutes greeting me, and all indications are my current staffy would be the same. We take him out as soon as we get home but he won't pee until he is happy there has been enough greeting. My dog is crate trained as well, but I'd be very reluctant to leave him in his crate for more than a couple of hours, even though I think he probabluy would not mind/complain. I just think he needs to be able to move a bit more tan his crate lets him and to have a bit more space in case he really does need to poop/pee. If the crate was the only option I'd use it if needed on a vaery rare occaission but I would not like that to be a daily or near daily thing for more than an hour or two. So my view is you absolutely can leave your Staffy home for an 8 day workday but you need to have conditioned him to the place your gonna leave him and make sure he has what he needs to be comfortable and give him a walk before hand.
