Thank you, finally some positive input. I am a narcissistic person who has woken up. And I have NOT always been like this. I remember my childhood and I was a child with empathy and love. Going through years of living in a very dysfunctional and abusive family changed me into the monster that I am today. When I think about the girl that I used to be, I feel immense pain and begin to cry. My core and sense of self are shattered but I CAN heal them.. Reading so much negativity is hurtfull.

The ending really smashes the nail in. I found narcissists defend and encourage other narcissists. And criticize your complaints of them. "Well its not a big deal she lied, shes a young woman shes entitled to explore her sexuality." Awfully hard to feel you have a disorder when everyone that is really supportive of your behavior is behaving in the same way. In that way if society were to become mostly narcissistic and the norm then all others would have the disorder compared to what is commonly accepted as normal. Hmmm makes a lot of sense why it is such a magnanimous undertaking.

I wonder if the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill Wilson, realised that underlying the alcoholics behaviour was narcissism? In the 'big book' of AA, in the chapter 'How It Works' he reveals his views of treating the selfishness and self centredness, as the root of the problem, and using AA's 12 Steps to treat and access recovery. It has proved highly successful for many people.

I don't say that child must be naive and adults cynical all time, I just say that once you transit into later form you cant revert back. you cant for get knowledge once you obtained it. If you find that you have cancer you cant forget that and live same nice life as before. As for curing narcissist nobody can even tell what exactly is narcissism. Probably some forms can be cured if they are result of some disorder. but most narcissists would not even classify that as disorder.

At a very simple level, narcissists are people who just don't give a "sh.t" about others. Those "others" however believe in being "good and trusting." Txs for the series, very informative.

Plus the lurks n perks of narcissism (for them) are a massive pay day. They don't feel much, if any remorse, so there is no penalty of conscience or shame. Any changes are merely cosmetic, hovering or strategically self-serving in some way. Impression management. At the very best they can be managed, (for example BPD) with much therapy/medication and a lot of freewill choice and effort on behalf of the recoverer.

There is a danger if you see something wrong and you are told that you need to look in your mistakes even you are the only one who are seing wrong and injustice. Some narcissists like to play victim to the point that they inflict wounds to themself just to get attention. This world is anything but normal and it is getting worse...

Child is supposed to be naive by definition, because child believes everything unconditionally, even it that is obvious lie. You can remain child forever, but once you obtained critical thinking you cant go back to believing every lie even if these lies are very comfortable. I think narcissist can change his behavior by pretending to be something else but he will remain narcissist forever. Maybe narcissist could become schizoid at best.

The difference with sociopath /malignant narcissism is that these are abusive disorders with low to no conscience. In order to really want to change involves conscience / a sense of ethics, a basic morality and sense of values. Real narcs neither have these nor want them. Again, much of recovery, via desperation, is self-serving, to stop the pain (for the self) to manage the physical allergy of the addictive substance, via complete abstinence of alcohol and life management skills.

I think it is incorrect to talk about curing something that we cant even describe or define properly. It seems that narcissism does not need to be cured, because it is logically correct endpoint of personality development. it is if you magically become god, and now you decide to become insignificant human again. Sure, being god is painful but there is no way back. Just as there is no way to become happy naive child when you become cynical adult.
@deltaxcd2 жыл бұрын
@@g.personal342 relying to 10 year old comment LOL during that time lots for things changed :) But you can see in the video that psychiatrists are not sure if they even have to include narcism into DSM if it is a disorder at all and how to define that disorder if it has many shades. Also at this day term narcissist is more or less just an insult to throw on people you don't like which has no real meaning.
@deltaxcd2 жыл бұрын
@@g.personal342 Well the basic principle in modern medicine is that only you can decide if your condition is disorder or not, doctor can diagnose you only by you request diagnosing anyone against their will is immoral. So when you visit a psychiatrist you come with complain that you dislike about yourself. Since narcissists generally do not have complaints about themselves they by definition have no disorder of any kind. Same problem happens with schizophrenia when people are totally crazy but nobody can do anything until they commit a crime because that crazy person is not asking for help. Other people are suffering but it is all considered completely fine. also Sam Vaknin definition is not entirely correct. Narcissism is not always that bad and sometimes it is causing quite some suffering to the narcissist. So it is probably worth keeping it in the DSM as some narcissists do ask for help. Other psychiatrists do not agree with his claims as well. In general the fact that some disorder is mentioned in the DSM just means that person can ask for help if he has that disorder if not doctor will say "get out you are fine." refusing to treat you or assign you some nonsense because otherwise he can't give any treatment.
@deltaxcd2 жыл бұрын
@@g.personal342 Well, actually yes, if you have cancer and bleeding to death and you claim that you are fine then yes you are fine, nobody has any right to diagnose your cancer or tell you that you are not fine. Only if you are unconscious and unable to express your opinion diagnosis can be performed without your consent. That's how things work in civilized world. Exception can be made if you pose a threat to other people. In the US is is common practice to ask accident victims that are bleeding to death if they are OK before bringing them to the hospital. What Sam is saying about narcissism is not exactly right as, like I said, other psychiatrists do not agree. To me he seem to be quite exaggerating the situation just like expected from a grandiose narcissist :) Claiming yourself to be non human is quite a thing. He is so unique and special LOL Always such a serious face. The cure for narcissism (and almost all disorders) is to understand that nothing matters nobody gives a shit about you and you have no importance at all. You just life your life and have fun until you croak. The belief that something in life has importance is actually the main component of pretty much every mental disorder.
@BabyBunch7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam I am with a narcissist he is 55 and goes between me and his ex-wife as his supply. He isn't egotistical when it comes to looks but he always talks about him, how he feels and how he always has something to do with a situation even if it's bad.. Like I would say I had a bad day because of work he would add that HE also had something to do with that.. He is not diagnosed. However just recently he has agreed to go to therapy because i told him that if I find him with his ex just once more that I was leaving the state and changing my number.do you think there is any hope for him if he is wanting to get help?
@deltaxcd12 жыл бұрын
If you have so good reasons for hope that's nothing special. Only crazy person will hope for bad thing to happen if everything is going so well. Belief in Santa is completely different thing. However, you probably wont deny that we all are getting older our health is getting worse so you cant have hopes that your life will be better in future than it is now.

Most if not all alcoholics are narcissists. The 12 steps can help.
@davidcunningham29847 жыл бұрын
Not true that most alcoholics are narcs. All alcoholics exhibit some narc traits as do all humans. The real identifying pathological trait is a lack of empathy. Many alcoholics are very empathic when not drinking. 12 steps involve self examination. Narcs are not likely to admit any faults or accept any responsibility and therefore will not be able to work 12 steps. Some true narcs dry out in a 12 step programs. However they never really do any step work and remain true narcs.
