Can Off Road Training Improve On Road Safety?

We spent the day with Mick Extance to find out about a new Bridgestone supported scheme he's launching, he wants to improve on road safety with off road training.

Yes . It will improve your riding skill and reduce the panic attack when unexpected events happens.

Absolutely Yes! It teaches you throttle & clutch control to a much greater extent than on-road riding. As someone else has said it also teaches you not to panic immediately when traction is broken.

Yes, even mountain biking helps. It's all about learning what happens and how to respond when you lose traction.

I would love to do something like this in the Czech Republic! Looks like massive fun! That said, the roads in Prague are pretty much like off-roading - gravel, pot-holes, cobble-stones, tram tracks...

Strange how not one comment about observation. My few days of trail riding reinforced the need to look ahead and read the terrain and note hazards: essential on the road.

My dirt riding skills have saved my life once, and my bike twice. I tell all my friends who want a street bike to try trail riding first. It is the best way to learn how to ride in unfavourable situations

Absolutely yes!! Lines of vision and changing surfaces. Imo sitting on top of a light weight machine vs being lower on a heavier street machine . The dirt bike is more work in the balance department.

Let me save you 8 minutes. *YES* it can definitely help. Less traction combined with the requirement of fast reflexes off road can greatly increase road riding

I've never hit the hill with one, but the flip is I've ridden many different bikes in many conditions even extreme and circumstances of extreme.

I personally believe that practicing all parts of riding onroad, offroad will help improve the safety.

yup. if you can ride dirt good, you can ride street good. the reverse however is not true.
