Adam... what a refreshing video and positive mindset that Joe had in this segment. Thanks for finding Evolution Autosports (just added to my bookmarks). What a true class and keep pushing for our OCEANS (you are a true Fiskerati). To be honest, this gives me some relief regarding my OCEAN ONE future. Everyday, I get into my OCEAN, I love it. I have 2.0 s/w (delivered via OTA) and no issues. In fact, just took my first 360+ mi roadtrip with one recharge to make a roundtrip from the DC to Plainsboro Twp, NJ. For the first time I charged her from 80% up to 100% SoC (to prepare for the drive) and reached NJ with 42% SoC. No issues throughout the trip either. Overnight during the weekend, I used a relatives dryer outlet (NEMA 14-30R) with my 14-30P to 14-50R adapter (used a J-Booster+ charger at 24amps), to charge from 35% SoC (since I drove around a bit in NJ) to 90% SoC which took 13.5hrs. The only pit stop I took was to drive thru a gas station parking lot in a Welcome Center along I-95 to get to a Starbucks 🙂.. I look forward to taking more roadtrips and knowing that there are folks out there like Joe to help customers is refreshing. Can I expect issues with s/w, absolutely but is it safe, comfortable, and F-A-S-T, 100%. Love every time I step into my OCEAN ONE.

But crucially it’s such a breath of fresh air that you have the expertise and experience as well as the determination to potentially help the Ocean community. The radio silence from Fisker itself is beyond disappointing in a time of such uncertainty and I for one feel dreadfully let down. You will have customers for life whatever happens with Fisker. As a former Fisker Karma owner I have had great experiences with Joe and Adam in FL. I would never do it again though! They maybe able to support it to a point, but the software was never improved (don't count on that), the quirks were never fixed, etc. You will still have issues with car and you just have to accept that you will but you will be driving a unique car that will have issues. The Ocean is more SDV that the Karma ever was and if you can't get a software engineer to work on the software forget it! The key is finding someone who can work, improve, and enhance the software in the vehicle. I doubt anyone will ever support over the air updates unless by some miracle a big automateker buys Fisker.

Great video! Since there definitely is a community of passionate Ocean owners, independent shops like EVolution Autosport can be a huge resource of support in the event that Fisker ends up shutting down (likely). This would be similar to how the Delorean community pulled together for parts and service, or how Gruber motors and others provided support for the original Tesla Roadsters. The real trick though would be to have access to any systems source code to deal with all the electronics. Maybe Fisker will open source all the programming before shutting the lights off.

American ingenuity (and business sense) at work! Also, agree that if Fisker stops production, the value of existing Oceans will rise over time.
@typxxilps9 ай бұрын
they have stopped production months ago and soon they will start rebuilding the assembly line as usual. Value might not rise over time cause the battery is the main issue cause at the end it will wear and tear the BMS and what not. It is not the most iconic car which collectors need to have , but who knows. The cells itself from catl are very reliable, the big configuration will lower the stress for the cells, but it comes with far less charging cycles than that LFP chemistry in the smaller one. The LFP edition is for sure the easiest to handel due to the 3000 charging cycles it can handle until they should still be above I guess 70% or 80% depending on the contract. Not sure if LFP have even been sold, but if they are available or these cell packs had been build somewhere then it is now the time to hunt for these cause they are the most wanted part soon. Only issue might be the logistics if that is fully assembled or not cause then the logistics are much more complicated , especially for the big ones cause no one wants to transport a gross 110 kWh battery across the ocean.
@Aslash3049 ай бұрын
Pretty sure the LFP pack in the Ocean Sport is the same one in the Model 3 standard range. Same chemistry, same company. Could be a nice benefit.

A big difference between 2012 Karma and Ocean is the need for software updates over time, you need more than a good workshop to solve that?
@evolutionautosports39939 ай бұрын
While factually true, we said all of this in 2012 when the Karma was less than a year old and they closed their doors. The powertrain tech in the Karma was cutting edge in 2012, there were no other series hybrids on the road. Same circus, different tent. A car worth keeping on the road can be kept on the road, if handled properly with dedication and resources.

4:53 - at the end it is about how to fix things across the country. I would start back at the roots and visit magna first cause they know every details from developlemnt over production to history and how they think this maintenance repair part can be solved cause: they have a contract with every single supplier, they have drawings and repair instructions and what not If the community of Ocean owners can make a deal with them now or soon then they can manage all the spare part things cause they can establish the supply chain management and such flow of parts to the USA , the whole logistics of collecting parts mostly in europe and ship them over to the USA and not piece by piece on an daily order base cause then the cost will explode in the first months already. Now all machines and moldings are there , but the suppliers of Magna will not wait much longer and build nothing more. The supplier network of magna here and for sure in china is gigantic , these are not american sourced or made parts. Just a matter of time and committment / determination cause that is what magna wants to see to adress such idea inside magna cause for them it is already a game over thing where they might not wanna invest much more. Time is the only issue cause I bet in case american fisker ocean owners ahow a strong and bold signal magna will react much better than in the past. De Lorean was a different story with an incredible stock which was sold partly years later and the fame came years later.

I think the Ocean is much more reliant on the software then was the Karma. The Ocean is basically a Software Defined Vehicle and as such the software is a CRITICAL and core component of the Ocean's future. Speaking as a software engineer myself, without rights to and access to the software source code it would seem that the Ocean's future will be forever frozen in time (i.e., no more fixes and no new features). Having Fisker software engineer contacts is certainly helpful but what you need is rights to and access to the Fisker/Ocean source code...otherwise those contacts won't be able to do anything to maintain or enhance the software....even if they were willing to support it. Here are some questions I would ask of those Fisker Software Engineers: 1) Does Fisker even have the rights to the software or did they simply license the software from a third party? 2) If they did license some or all of the software from a 3rd party: Who is the 3rd party? And if so what parts of the software (if any) does Fisker own? What are the high level terms of the software license? Did Fisker pay for the right to use that software? Or is the Fisker software purely based on Open Source software platform (e.g., Android) that they have now extended with their own feature set. Just knowing some of these basics might shed some light as to whether there is any opportunity for someone to pickup the software to support and extend it in the event that Fisker goes Chapter 7. I'd be happy to speak with any Fisker Software contacts to try and get more clarity on the questions I posed and other related questions.

@@MTNRanger Thanks for the info. Very helpful. Do you have any further insights into how Fisker leveraged the TomTop Digital Cockpit OS...specifically did they use any of TomTom's Application Suite or are they only using TomTom's Application platform?
