I think you should make the distinction between countries - not necessarily being rich and elite. I want to study abroad in the UK - in order to do that I must fly to another country to get a chest xray and to apply for my visa. The initial costs are prohibitive. Not everyone is eligible for scholarships because of citizenship and other circumstances. Some have to support their family (parents/ younger siblings) and can't save enough foreign currency to make this dream come true. So it is not impossible by any means, but it is also not universally possible for everyone. And it does not come down to how hard you work or how hard you try. Sometimes it is just not possible - and that doesn't make you a loser or someone who 'gave up'

Of course not, but that is the perfect excuse for those who don't want to make an effort to get it. Glad you have brought up this topic :)

I disagree a poor kid from the Philippines whose family income is only $50 per month can never afford to study abroad. No matter how much effort a poor kid from a third world country puts in, he/she will have very little chance to study abroad. Even if the tuition and fees are free, this kid still won’t be able to afford the living expenses even if they work part time. They might not even be able to afford to pay for the visa and school application alone. Unless this kid gets awarded a full scholarship, there is no chance he/she can study abroad. Studying abroad is a privilege.

I am really not interested in going pubs and restaurants but I want to study abroad with scholarships as I know studying abroad might cost me out of my budget and I think if you have passion and determination to do something, it is possible ❤️ You're an amazing speaker... Thanks alot ❤️❤️

You talked about income levels but I don't think you addressed the more obvious issue of citizenship. If you are not from the EU and wish to study there: It is possible, but it is just going to cost more and you will have to work harder than other EU citizens. - language classes (non-eu citizens probably didn't have great access to eu languages in school, i certainly didn't) - document translations+apostilles, visa fees - 1000+ euro long distance flights home to see family (no 2 hour flights or quick train rides) - many (not all) scholarships/benefits are reserved for EU citizens only bc their parents paid taxes for this, which makes sense. - more difficulty getting affordable accommodation because they reject based on visa length, as it makes you unpredictable - Sometimes you need a guarantor/Bürge to get good, non-Airbnb accommodation, they usually do not accept foreign parents for this - Someone from Japan or India studying in Germany is going to have way bigger culture shock than someone from Belgium or Italy. That's just a fact. I'm from the US and got my BA in Germany and the UK. It was much cheaper than university in the US (obvs) but much more expensive/difficult for me and other non-EU citizens I met. All of my fellow non-EU friends who actually managed to complete a degree here had at least upper middle class parents back home supporting them. Most international students who make it through a degree in the US are either exceptional and earned full scholarship or have REALLY rich parents. The bar is just way higher if you weren't born into an advantageous citizenship. It sucks, and we should be working to make that more fair.

Before going to study in Italy to do my master's degree (I'm Polish and that's where I did my bachelor with Eramsus in Spain) I was talking with my friend who speak pretty good italian and he's a good student and I asked him, why don't You go to Italy for master's? And he said it's too expensive - which for me was a little bit funny because the uni fee is cheaper (we were studying in English so we paid for our program normally you don't pay for uni in Poland) and he was living already out of home and in my city housing and living is not the cheapest and it come up to more or less how much I pay here with bigger room and double bed (obviously I'm not in Milano because there yes the rooms are very expensive but the uni is better in other parts of Italy so no problem 😂😂) and I felt sorry for him because he's talented student and in my opinion he deserves the diploma for better university than our in Poland 😞😞

I think that the problem is that people from Switzerland/Germany/France/Danemark etc. Will tell you: "Find a part-time job and save beforehand! Don't be lazy!" And completely disregard the fact that in Bulgaria you get 3€/hour and in France you get 10€/hour. I mostly talked to either people who understood the difference or to the "poor" people. Also; i was never ashamed of being poor so it was quite fun to confront some of the international students about this. Bottom line is; rich international students were so out of touch with reality that i prefered talking to small groups of students and locals. I have never met more insufferable people that the rich students on Erasmus. Just saying.

I have seen a college there that costs 5000€ a semester and the semester in Germany is 6 months so you will finish college in 3 years so you’ll basically need to pay 10000€ a year for tuition fees and about 16000€ for your living for a whole year, the college is called CODE and it’s in Berlin .

Whoever says that studying abroad is for the rich it’s not true , there are many scholarships that you can get by just getting grades and there is the SAT exam that you can get a scholarship from, plus you could easily study abroad and get a quality education by being from a middle class family and yes there are many pros for the people that come from Europe and rich families someone like me who’s a Muslim and I’m from Iraq has some cons like a week passport. But thankfully I have been lucky that I come from a rich family and I am an 11th grader and I saved 20k$ and my parents have opened a saving account for me since the day I was born and now I have 100k$ but still you can study abroad even if you don’t come from a rich family.
