May I suggest a "tea room" type for the kids area. This way it avoids craziness at your tea room and gives the kids a fun eating area of their own. All the best from 🇨🇦

Yes, do throw in a tea room for the kiddies. That would be such a big effort w laws to be followed for food. But that is a good point. Drinks maybe& bagged snacks! It’s a thought especially w 100s in a day as your hoping for. GOOD LUCK!!

Or maybe have a picknick spot and sell pre-packages „playground hampers“ at the existing store. People could chose which playground to sit down at or even bring some snacks of their own (maybe not so financially beneficial for the estate shop, but if it encourages families to come and spend the day in the grounds, they will be spending money at other places or tell friends etc)
@alexk7973
@alexk7973 Жыл бұрын
there could be something like a return-fee for the hampers, where people would pay a small deposit and get it back when they return the hamper. That would make it possible to use more environmentally friendly reusable packaging, which would be fitting for a place that has started a rewilding project and also a little classier than paper plates and plastic wrap. Also you would avoid a lot of littering that might otherwise occur around the grounds. And help encourage responsibility within the children using the area.

Sand boxes are great as long as you can keep the cats out of them. - cover them when not in use - otherwise they can turn into giant litter boxes full of unpleasant "surprises". Learned that the hard way. I hope you do not have that problem...

YES they are funny but also educational for the emerging architects, landscape architects and planners! A perfect blend of history, community, passion, failure and successes that is 100% relatable.

I’m thinking maybe a dedicated staff member to go after every grant imaginable offered by the UK government for restoration $$$. Also, I’m thinking a “Come Visit Mapperton” advertising campaign is in order. Advertise the estate and gardens with the glossy drone picture used in your Mapperton Live videos. Advertising in Home and Garden magazines as well as other high end magazines or periodicals such as Gourmet magazine or Bridal magazines would draw visitors. Get the word out in London too. Maybe a 30 second TV ad would raise your estate profile beyond Dorset.

I have totally fallen in love with you two, the Mapperton crew, and Mapperton! These new projects are so exciting and worthwhile. YES, they will absolutely benefit the entire estate. God willing, I AM coming to visit. I've been to England a number of times, but without knowing about you; however, no future visits again WITHOUT coming to Mapperton ❤️🙏🇺🇲🇬🇧

This is so exciting. I love the new play areas for the children! Just a suggestion, if possible, a water pump would be a neat feature as well. Our kindergarten has one and it's a highlight. We live close to a castle which is now a museum. They offer different themed birthday parties for children, such as create your own family crest, or a mystery scavenger hunt, etc... Good luck with all your endeavours!🍀

Have you thought of working with a university to study your rewildling efforts? You can look up university rewildling studies to find all sorts of professors studying efforts like engineering for example. Many university engineering schools have their students do capstone projects so that would be a great way to get help from students and professors as well as publicity. Additionally, (IDK how it works there) but in the U.S., when researchers get grants they have to do some K-12 educational project. Working with these professors and local schools would also get some publicity for you.

Your video at the local beach eating fish and chips and drinking beer by the sea was my favorite video to date. Hope to see more of that. What’s happening with Keeper’s Cottage? The extra bathroom off the bedroom? New curtains for other rooms in the house? Fixing up the Orangery columns? Please share more!

Yes yes yes yes yes! When I was in Dorset and doing a little sightseeing before coming to visit Mapperton, nobody knew who you were. I told them immediately to get online or KZbin whatever it takes because they were missing out on a fantastic location. At the places that I was at, nobody had fliers or brochures about Mapperton. Some of the places that I visited were pubs B and B's Hotels and tour offices which they all had racks of other brochures of other locations to go visit but nothing of Mapperton. Need to spread the word. 😊

When Luke mentioned Julie running down the beach with a banner it made me think of kites on the beach, which are done here in CA. Maybe put some Mapperton advertisements on the kites and give them out at the beach. Also, hosting kiting events at Mapperton during the windy season would be fun and a great fundraiser. You have the perfect land to fly kites in areas where there are no electrical lines for kites to get caught up on.

Work never ends!!! My parents always said and taught us kids, that there will be plenty of time and opportunity to rest when we're dead! Ha! True motto of rural life! I think you should host a sandwich festival during the summer months to draw tourists in. If you had a sandwich making competition, you could invite famous chefs like Jamie Oliver or the Great British Bake Off judges to judge it. You could have different categories for the competition such as tea time sandwiches, toasted sandwiches, sub sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, barbecue sandwiches, veggie sandwiches, cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, etc. You could use the play area you just created and the nearby sea as a draw for tourists to enjoy before or after they attend Sandwich Fest!

Maybe a holiday cottage or 2 that have things for them, sensory blackouts, calming things, swings, no floor transitions etc…. I’d think you could end up being very,very busy. The animals you have could be a part of it as well. There are Autism Societies can help you and spread the word.

Adorable. As you move forward, what about more “branded” attractions? Slightly cartoonish versions of history seem to do very well in the UK, considering how booming York was when I visited. How about jousting exhibitions, craft sales (both touristy as well as high end/traditional craftsmanship), Devonshire cream teas, knightly foam sword fighting lessons, etc? Where I live small farmers are really pushing other uses of their property year round, so it’s common to find apple picking, corn mazes at Halloween, christening tree sales, spring flower shows and plant sales, etc. Here there are actual companies dedicated to monetizing attractions that you can hire to cut a maze, run a far stand, start up a tea shop etc. Wonder if the UK has the same? There are so many things families could do at Mapperton when they’re “bored of the beach!” Hey, another thought-are you on the radar of film location scouts? Traffic at places like Highclere and Castle Howard exploded after they appeared on film and TV. Best!
