Today is both Indigenous Peoples and Columbus Day. Many of Jimmy's fellow Italian-Americans get very defensive about Christopher Columbus even though he never even got to North America. He died thinking he went to India and found a trade route to China but he did neither of those things. He had one job and he screwed it up. So today, as a nod to Columbus, we went out onto Hollywood Blvd to find out if people on the street could find the places Columbus couldn't.

Fun fact: The Dutch were looking for India back then during the 1700s and the ended up in Indonesia. The land still had spices so the Dutch just went with it. They called the Indonesian land (or the people) the "Dutch Indies" back then and they named the sea the "Indian Ocean" (if I'm not mistaken). Soekarno and Hatta eventually gave Indonesia their independence in 17 August 1945 and renamed their country "Indonesia". Correct me if I'm wrong!

This one's kinda interesting actually, it shows the methods of learning used ie people in the US are clearly taught in a way that they memorise positions on a map rather than actually grasping geographical information about the world, so it's pretty fair to think the majority probably got it wrong, but the hat guy was a gem for the show :) If anyone didn't notice, many of them knew the location they would find India on a standard American view global map, where the US is in the top left. When China is put in the middle of the map (as it is in China, India, all of Asia, Australia etc) they have no clue where to find any country. It's like memorising a childrens book instead of learning to read - will get a good score on a test, but is useless in the real world & a sign of a poor education. Educators in the US should be taking note of segments like this so they can fix the problem

I worked with a guy who tried to tell me about something that happened at a private school in Australia "in the 1400s." I assumed he meant the 1940s and just misspoke, so I repeated "the 1400s?" back to him. I figured he'd hear the obvious error he'd made, laugh, correct himself, and carry on with the story. What actually happend is he didn't understand and just got mad at me for repeating it. Then he says, "Fine, maybe it was the 1500s!" and I realized this guy really has ZERO concept of history.

They pronounced as "Indu" or "Hindu".That's how the Sindhu river got it's other name as "Indus" and India. Although India name is popularly used as the name of the country, but we also have two other names for India in Hindi language as "Hindustan" or "Bharat". India got its name long before Buddha or Christ or Mohammed. During the stone age times, while America was discovered in 1492. He discovered South America to be exact. He was Portuguese & he came with Spanish people, therefore the languages remained eminant there.The trade route to India was blocked by British as the three countries wanted to set their foot in India so he figured to take the other way as Earth is round & he can probably get to India by other route.Portuguese first came to India for Spices & tea leaves.Then came French and then the British. By the time French came West Indies was already discovered,so they named their company French East India Company and British East India Company.
