Can Phil IVEY Beat A Poker JEDI? [$200,000 Poker Tournament]

Phil Ivey is back and showing us all why he is widely considered to be the greatest poker player of all time!
His opponents in this poker hand are no strangers to the high stakes poker scene either. Ben Heath who has over $13,000,000 in live tournament earnings and Christoph Vogelsang, the poker jedi, who has a staggering $27,000,000 of his own live tournament winnings.
Ivey is put to the ultimate test on the river by a very tricky Vogelsang who decides to bluff with just seven high. Ivey is sat there with middle pair and a weak kicker. Could you have made the call in Phil Ivey’s shoes?

Big chip stack, option C is ideal I think. Definitely need to raise as this is a strong combo draw. I think all-ins will force all marginal or drawing hands to fold and only premiums to call, though you will have pot odds for a large pot I'm not sure of ICM in this specific hand.

I think with so many missed draws on board and Phil not only being aggressive preflop and post flop ;but also holding top pair and having less than a pot sized bet behind that it's impossible to bluff him off the hand on the river. How often do draws float then jam river when they miss knowing the only way they can win the hand is bluffing, often enough in my direct experience playing live that it's an easy call for Phil (there was also some live tells imo from Vogelsang and even the way he covered up preflop "felt" like an act (acting strong when weak).

Thanks for covering this hand Jonathan, I was actually going to suggest you review this hand, there's another hand from the other day on LATB that is between Bill Klein (KAo), Garrett(QAo) and Linglin (KAo) that I think would be good to cover as there's multiple angles worthy of going over like Linglin's preflop fold in the BB sitting between G and Bill facing a 3bet and 4bet. The way the rest of the hand plays out is good too, I think it's a perfect fold from Linglin (she only had 20k against much bigger stacks) and an overcall from G facing an all in Bill ;but would love to hear your breakdown.

I think that even though you might think what they are doing is incorrect, sometimes it may actually be incorrect because people make errors or maybe they have information in the spot that led them to make the decision. I think as long you have a logical thought process behind every decision you make you would do fine anyways

I'd put in a raise because it's a 3-way pot and I'm out of position, so it's too easy for things to check through on the turn. I want to start building the pot and putting pressure on my opponents, because I have the deepest stack, and when I connect I'm going to crush their ranges.

I have a question. You stated that on the flop if Vogelslang were to raise Ivey, Ivey might re-raise all in. But I have heard numerous times doing that would be a bad play because if you were to go all in that scenario you will only get called by a better hand. I understand the logic, you have top pair and you want to protect it by raising all in, but how do you differentiate between the 2 situations?

He doesn't know Ivey's specific hand and you are right. If Ivey reraise all in he would get called only by better or the big combo draw that he's flipping with. But Ivey can have some sets that can reraise all in. So he's not saying about specific hand Ivey have but his range rather.

I definitely prefer calling with high equity draws on the flop OOP, as it makes me much more difficult to play against on the turn (I will often check-raise bluff a hand like this on the turn). Raising a standard amount is fine, but if you raise all your draws in this spot you will be massively overbluffing into some of the best players in the world. We don't have that many nut hands. Jamming or folding are clearly awful.

I think raise is the appropriate action. It’s not a hand that you are going to ever get away from and you might as well try and get the max as well as put pressure on one pair holdings. You don’t really care if anyone folds you take down dead money and you still have a Lotta equity to realize if you get called

I dont like all options. We do have a lot of equity against both players but we can also be almost dead (against een higher pair and higher flush draw). I would never fold, but I realy think its an ok option. I would call here.

I like a call in Vogelsangs spot on the flop. He is closing the action and really wants to see another card and keep the other players in. The only arguement for a raise is if a club comes on the turn he won't get any action so a small raise may help him get value here on the flop rather than on a later street.

I would just shove. Yes it's 3.5x pot, but better flush draws can't really call and so I should have good odds against anything that does. Might be a fishy move, but it'll be a lot harder to realize equity on the turn.

am curious why nits esp more likely to consider the playing with chips (or the old fake push the stack forward, but never going over the line etc) as an angle over anybody else (not suggesting it IS an angle, if you are silly enough to give off tells when the opp hasn't even legally called yet it's your fault).

for those new to live poker though, DO be careful, you'll see people all the time try to in fact get you to give off tells when you bet the river like mentioned here, often far more egregious versions of it. if you aren't sure that your opponent who looked like he just called did in fact call, just ask the dealer. the dealer really should already indicate by a hand motion or verbal statement that you were called, and thus it's your turn to show your hand as the bettor who got called (this doesn't mean the dealers always actually DO this though, lots of times it's a reg who they see every day or near it doing the chip movement balk-call, and they often don't want to queer their tips by stopping an angle in it's tracks)

I'm just opining also, but my opinion is that he goes too far. There has to be a line. If I brought a Halloween mask and put it on, would you think it ok? There have to be rules on attire.
