Y'all were too polite and self conscious to actually try to scream until right at the end haha! I admit, I'd have trouble too!

Honestly you two make such funny videos together XD It would be so funny seeing you guys just having a normal climbing session together.

17:32 Jon's explanation i think is very very true. Power screaming can helps in certain circumstances. And Josh's power grunts, I can totally relate. Thanks for proving this Jon and Josh.

Haha the science is in! I confess to being kinda loud sometimes when trying hard… I actually also find yelling a little bit helps me get through kind of scary moves too, a bit of war cry you know?
@alexandreevrard92197 ай бұрын
I always grunt when trying hard, and what I tried at some point out of curiosity was to refrain from grunting, and then it became more difficult to do physical moves at my limit. I guess I had to focus on it, which reduced my focus on the actual climbing/trying hard. There is also an element of psyching yourself up, to silence unwanted thoughts such as 'I'm so tired/pumped I'm gonna fall for sure' or 'if I fall now, I am gonna scrape/hurt myself'. In both cases it helps for sure, it's a focus thing.

This is a perfectly timed video as i was power screaming in my session last night and was wondering how much it was actually doing for my performance. It definitely feels like it helps me especially when im trying my absolute hardest

@@Jonathan_sin88 i suppose mine were kind of like power grunts usually haha
@kovaclimbs7 ай бұрын
Your power screams gotta be more agressive like "AAAAAAAARRRRGGHHAAAAAA" or "GAAAAAAAH". It really helps me sometimes when I do that. Also, I almost never do them consciously, my body just lets out a power scream when it needs more, well, power!
@AmirNickname7 ай бұрын
Definitely helps me! I used a load cell for a video where I measure something similar: psyching myself up gave me 15% more strength output 💪🏾

You should test tops off for power
@Claudia189157 ай бұрын
As a scientist I just want you to know that to make this test as scientifically accurate as possible you need to do each climb a minimum of 7 times with and without the power scream (14 total) so that an average and standard deviation can be taken. So yeah, next time do the last climb 14 times please, potentially more if you want to have power grunts as a new variable 😉. Oh and you should also wear headphones so you don't know if you are powder screaming of not. Important to eliminate any potential placebo effect from your own bias

To test your theory a bit more thoroughly, you needed to get a screamer and prevent him to scream in addition to you two.

A powerscream only really works if it comes naturally as a result of exhertion. 😂 I do it more often with weightlifting (esp. squats and cleans) than climbing, with the latter it only really comes out when climbing overhang on rope. It does a require a certain lack of social anxiety though, hahaha. The worst thing is when you only develop a frustration sound (i.e. while/after failing the move) instead.

As someone who power screams I can't force it but if I'm trying really hard I just scream and I do the move even if I couldn't do it before it just helps me go past my limit and I do it especially on kilterrboard.
