Doubt it would ever go mainstream... There's no competition to it for the people to get hooked... ,No team game, no 1v1... It would be fairly boring for the average person to just watch people lift weights lol I'm sure it will catch another popularity wave in 10-20 years but it'll never go mainstream

Exactly this. There's no defense or direct competitive aspect to powerlifting. You just have to hope that you're stronger than someone else. Plus like you said, no one wants to watch people lift weights, especially the same 3 lifts over and over
