This goes for all dogs. Make sure you have a really good bond, they will listen to you ***LIKE YOU LISTEN TO THEM***. People ignoring their dogs is always a problem.

I take my Saluki out in the woods and it’s wonderful until we encounter another dog, he usually gets a little bit aggressive around other large dogs but as long as we are alone, everything goes well.

Yeah, it's tough to always be on a lookout to catch everything before your dog sees it. We also do this all the time, so we can get our dogs on leash before they meet anyone.

Brother and sister Saluki are sweet. When off leash it is always the female woh initiates the 'running away'. walking off leash alone with her brother is never a problem ; )

If saluki are screaming, they are being dramatic. If they are quiet, that's when you really have to worry. xD Saluki are hunting dogs. They would be pretty useless as hunting dogs if they never came back. ;)

Lucky for me, I have never seen Lamora to be silent. 🤣 (just kidding) But so true about their job! Feels so weird to see all those arguments about them not having any recall and the same people talking about salukis hunting - how do they imagine hunting if the dog doesn't come back? :D

Depends who and where. The female saluki is always off the leash in safe places. She will always be around in a reasonable range and won’t get near to strangers or become aggressive towards other dogs and respond if called. The male is always on the leash, no control possible, won’t answer to no call, approach strangers, be aggressive to other dogs, and wander for hours regardless of keeping in touch with us. He eventually will come back, when and how nobody knows. Railways, roads and hunters may be fatal.

The problem is that ordinary dogs usually run in a 200yard radius, or far less. A Saluki's radius for hunting is up to 3miles! This is obviously not safe for the Saluki in the USA or Europe. You also need to remember that a Saluki can take down a White-tail Deer. My Saluki's fenced (5ft) run is about 3/4 of an acre in total. The fence next to my neighbors dogs is 6 ft. This would not have been sufficient for my first Saluki Ebony, who could easily clear 6ft.

It is true the prey drive will.always overtake when too many distractions,I always let mine off when no other dogs around. I also think he learnt a harsh lesson after he ran away from me and couldn't find me as a young dog. He likes to stay close and engage with me when running now. I have to keep an eye put and see those distractions before he dies though hehe. I want to ask, what do you think is a compatible dog to have live with your saluki? I'm afraid I couldn't handle two salukis running on lead if they see something so maybe somthing smaller.

Have you looked at Whippets? They are smaller, but still will do running games
