I'm from NYC and still live here. There are no inline skate shops here. A Them shop is a double edged sword. While it's good to have an aggressive inline shop for the first time since the 90's (yes it's been that long), having a single brand is a monopoly. Monopolies are bad. We need s shop that sells multiple brands. There are really not many aggressive inline skaters here. There are people who do fitness but that's mostly it. In the last 5 years I've only seen two other aggressive skaters in Manhattan. Neither one was skating Thems. If there's one thing that people in NYC hate is not having a choice.
@darkoale3299
@darkoale3299 11 күн бұрын
You're right. Plenty of urban skaters in NYC. Barely any aggressive skaters. At least not enough to have much of an impact. If we had a true skate shop that sold all styles of skates, I think it would be successful. As it is only Paragon Sports comes to mind and their supply is extremely limited.
@rolandbellerud
@rolandbellerud 11 күн бұрын
Even if it's 1 brand, it's still a good starting point to get new skaters (the coffee shop aspect definitely drives foot traffic into the shop). We all started with whatever was available (for many that was the 1 aggressive option at Dick's), and we all learned about the other available options.

The tariffs might mean people turn increasingly to panning for gold in the digital skate mines of ebay and Facebook Marketplace. That would be a dark day should it come to pass, as it would make it harder for me to keep buying them all.

I agree, but moving manufacturing overseas was a deliberate act by businessmen like Trump in the first place. So him showboating the symptom (too much imported goods) instead of the root (let's rebuild America's core manufacturing infrastructure) is total garbage. And where do these tariffs go? Doubling the price on consumer goods isn't going to effect shit companies like Walmart. It only effects the consumer and small businesses.

It makes it more expensive for those who currently do it. I know brands are already actively looking into solutions, so it’s going to have some impact

You should be on Sky New's 'lefties loosing it' with this video :). Anyhow, I've been watching your videos for a while and a little bit of TDS won't stop me, but I'd politely suggest either staying out of politics of doing actual research before doing predictions like this.

It directly impacts rollerblading so I’m going to talk about it and I did plenty of research. I politely suggest you stop making assumptions.

Any political type of conversation needs to be had at a more informed level / time and not on a channel that expertises in rollerblading... trump isn't even in office yet, everything is inferred speculation until facts are facts...

$100 + 60% = $160 is a fact, and businesses make the majority of their decisions on speculation anyway.

Not it will make a difference to you but the sources of the information were The National Retail Federation, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Peterson Institute for International Economics, Oxford Economics and Budget Lab at Yale University. He's been heavily focused on these tariffs but yes, until it happens, it's not happened - saying that he has increased tariffs before and companies are already making moves to adapt.

@TomMoyse I appreciate the effort and thought in trying to use accurate info. I guess what I should have started with is prefer my rollerblading content without politics infused.. in general, politics is riddled with lies from both sides and has more recently really divided people in a time when we should come together to solve bigger problems.

@@anthonys1637 I can appreciate that and I hope you can appreciate that regardless of which political side you fall on this could impact rollerblading massively, especially agg rollerblading - and so I feel it’s well within range for me to comment on in a news video. It’s not a campaign for either side and interestingly economists on both sides have agreed it’s the American consumer who will lose out and foot the bill. 🙌🏻

@@TomMoyse Skateboards are going nowhere. Most good boards are made RIGHT over the border in Mexico by US owners, all trucks were just very recently moved to Chinese production and simple to bring back, Spitfire wheels are poured in California, and Italian made SKF bearings will run you $35. SkateboardERS will not allow it to go anywhere. We have kept a physical magazine in print this long. You guys can barely keep skates in production as it is. 😂
