You may have explained why the Hellcat is snappier than other guns. It's running the ammo to higher velocities; maybe due to a tighter bore or other factors forcing a more complete burn. Also I carry an X Macro for the excellent shootability. Great video.

With the amount of broken guns and manufacturing defects on p365 and 320s Im not surprised that the sigs were less consistent.

The 365 hasn't had problems in hears. I have found, however, that sig barrels accuracy is slightly less than many other brands as well.

Thank you for this video!, I know alot of folks wonder about the velocity difference between the barrel lengths and how it can affect hollow point performance. Can you give any updates about the problem you had with the True Precision barrel? I bought one recently for my Hellcat.

That would explain why Hellcats are more 'snappy' though. They have better ballistics performance compared to the SIGs (which I own).

FYI, check out Shalotek and FDEZ. Both companies make an "XXL" setup that uses a 3.7" standard P365XL barrel, but has a slide comp like the macro. Essentially its a Macro XL. Super cool.
@baconatordoom Жыл бұрын
The Hellcat most likley has tighter barrel tolerances that causes higher pressures. Or the lockup time is longer than the Sig.

@work the trigger Thank you for this video! Super informative! My only concern about the 3.1” barrel is the expansion when you hit your target… I am not so concerned about losing 50 FPS especially with 124G ammo but I think the most important thing is the expansion of the ammo.
@workthetrigger Жыл бұрын
Expansion is a direct correlation with velocity for any given projectile design. So if we can maintain good velocity, we will get good expa sion. I'd love to get this test placed in some ballistic gel some time.

With a .22lr, they can be less lethal fired from a rifle than they are fired from a handgun... because they may expand out of the rifle and not penetrate nearly deep enough for self defense... but then from the handgun they won't expand and will penetrate enough for self defense/lethality. It's why I try not to buy HP .22lr ammo. If you shoot it out of a rifle it's not likely to be as lethal.

You failed to mention that the Hellcat slide didn’t lock back BECAUSE OF YOUR GRIP….. the gun has no issues locking back unless your hand presses into it and in that case NO GUN will lock back 🤦🏾♂️

I'm an old fud. I remember a magazine article back in the day that used a 357 revolver with precise hand loads. Between cylinders, they cut an inch from the barrel. Velocity loss was roughly 35fps per inch. Once they got to around 3 inches, you'd of been better off using the frame as a hammer! 🤕(or the full lead hollow points that were common at the time)
@deucedeuce1572 Жыл бұрын
They say that under 4", the differences in barrel length mean less and less. Even a .22 Magnum is sufficiently lethal with a 1 1/8" barrel, like a NAA revolver... so a .357 with a 3" barrel would be more than adequate for self defense. I'm not sure if the lead HP's are what made the gun useless... but I doubt it had anything to do with the barrel length. There are Many 100's of revolver models with barrels shorter than 3"... and people use them for self defense every day. The same can be said for the NAA revolvers in 22lr and 22wmr. They're used successfully in self defense on a daily basis and A LOT of people have died from being shot with them.

Thank you for your research, I appreciate your time and help. I edc the Hellcat Micro with thumb safety so I watched this with a shit eating grin. The safety lever works as a good thumb ledge and can be easily swept down during draw, and keeps my thumb from engaging the slide lock. I love my Hellcat but I deal with the same issue on non manual safety models. Maybe you can consider the thumb safety version.

Alright, that number of 25-50 fps is average on rifle barrels. Not handguns. Typically the amount of free-bore, actual bore diameter, and bullet diameter matter. You’ll find both .355” and .356” bullets. When you get a combination along with shorter free-bore they will go faster. But you also deal with more carbon fouling and possibly less tolerance to out of spec cartridge dimensions. Then you throw on the ported slide and all hell breaks loose.
