@simonparry76653 жыл бұрын
You laugh about it afterwards, but cows are tricky beggars at the best of times. I don't have an issue with them, generally speaking, but some of them can get pretty close up and intimidating. Certainly enough to make you take a different route on occasion. One time on a coastal walk in Dorset we had to take a big detour because the cows in the next field (on a public footpath) were pressed up against the gate so that we couldn't have opened it even if we'd wanted to. And the way the cattle were behaving (quite agitated) we didn't want to anyway. After a wait to see if they'd lose interest and moooove away we just backtracked and went the long way around them and their field.
@garyjlewis28572 жыл бұрын
yes, the 'NOW" thought when Si says " very aggressive manner" was, 'what would an aggressive Moo sound like'...did bring on a pleasant belly laugh. i have just watched this again (Aug 2022) as for some reason I did not quite make the 394.6miles 10 months ago. Well chosen Josh, was top of Simons' more honest concern quotes. Must attempt to make it to this ride before it gets too big. Kaponga Taranaki New Zealand.. we have a few cow's ;-)

Nailed it. The emotional waves, anger at random cows, the “do I sleep or not” debate, the religion of the fried potato, etc. I did a similar race in Minnesota not too long ago - one note to emphasize: closest I’ve ever come to getting dead was at hour 28, sunrise, random gravel intersection and a truck that truly did not expect some sleep-depped fool on a bike to be at the intersection he’d blown through for 40 years prior. Stay safe, it can truly be a dangerous endeavor. Solid filmmaking GCN👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Absolutely amazing Si, great grit and determination. No one will ever understand the emotions you feel doing something like this (I've only ever done 100mile< MTB "rides"), but when you're out there, alone, dealing with fatigue etc., your emotions sure do run high and you'll tear up at the weirdest thing. Definitely more content like this.

Thank you, Simon! I felt inspired as I watched and listened to you suffer. This was one of the best cycling vids I've watched, and I've seen a few. Thank you!!

A massive well done to you Si, awesome ride and what a great result. Got to feel bad for your friend though. From the greyness of your face in the narration I feared you might have had to bail. Lovely seeing you riding down through Brandon. That was where I and my School friend Mark did our first unaccompanied ride out to, riding up through the villages from Cambridge, camping in Brandon and riding back the next day on his Dawes galaxy and my Ammaco Triathlon. Must have been 11 or 12. Great memories!

This is without a doubt my all time favorite video you all have done. Between commentary, cinematography, editing and just story in general it is just the best. Cheers to Simon for powering through that epic effort. Kudos!

You should make a behind the scenes production video, showing the amount of effort taken to make these videos. Would love to see how it’s filmed, with chase team and camera crew etc. Insane quality!

likewise, I'm always curious if the cameramen interacted or if this was a completely solo ride apart from the other competitors)

@@tonylephard5843 It's obvious they interacted. The cameraman drank all Si's water! 😂

Such a great episode, Mega congratulations Si and hope you've recovered by now :) Really do need to consider renaming the channel to the GUECN (Global Ultra-Endurance Cycling Network) at this rate though!

Ultras are becoming really popular I think because the conception of what's possible keeps increasing, and when you finish the longest ride of your life you're thinking about the next milestone the next week
@richardrothwell51333 жыл бұрын
They are also really accessible. You can have the best ultra riders in the world lining up besides nervous first timers just wanting to get round. It's very inclusive. Great adventures too in places you may not think of! Like East Anglia!

Wow! I'm so glad you got to ride round East Anglia, it's so beautiful here! I just bike packed the rebellion way, a local route round some of the best the county has to offer. Good job!

This was fantastic. The commentary from Si was great. Coming us in on how he felt. It was like a documentary. The sound and music brought it up to the next level. Thank you for sharing the journey with us.
