You should dyno one of Alpine's KTA series(power pack) amplifiers, that way you can put to the test their DPP(dynamic peak power) technology which supposedly doubles it's power rating. I'm guessing there would be a huge difference between certified and dynamic runs if it's true.

What would you recommend for SQ amps and SPL amps? You just make it a list that can always be revolving based on your testing of all these different amps. You could make different categories. Like SQ for component sets, budget minded, no limit price wise, Same for pro audio setups. Same for sub setup. Budget friendly bangers. No limit budget. Sq sub setup vs, high spl setup. Etc

So I tried a Skar RP2000.1D on a pair of Sundown Audio SA 12's in a spec built ported enclosure. I previously had them hooked up to an old school PPI PC2100. Obviously the 200 watts RMS I was feeding each wasn't enough to really get them moving but the SQ was amazing. After switching to the Skar and feeding them proper power they sounded mediocre at best. The frequency response of the Skar was horrible. There were certain parts of songs that the Skar just couldn't reproduce like the PPI. Its like certain frequencies were completely missing. For the price of the Skar I wasn't disappointed. They got plenty loud.

I feel the same. I had a Boston Acoustics 1,000 watt amp on 2 DD 2512 subs and switched to a Skar to 2000 and the sound quality dropped significantly.

Listened to this in my car with a mosconi 130.4 dsp amp, (also class a/b:) and it sounded good. Skar is a good, budget friendly brand for a beginner, imo.

Back in October of 2021, I purchased two 4-channel amps from Skar Audio (SK-400.4D). The first one died three weeks from the date of delivery. The second, in my daughter's car, died 6 months later. Because the first one failed within the first 90 days, they allowed me to return it for a full refund. I got lucky with the second one because it was on back order and would take six to eight weeks for it to be available. Since I didn't want to wait, they offered me a full refund for that one too. Besides their failure, I found them to lack power and don't believe they were even producing their rated power, like the many previous amp I've owned in the past with similar ratings. Additionally, I had two of the channels wired down to to ohms and it kept shutting it down. To say I was not impressed in the least, would be an understatement. One amp, I can chalk up to a fluke, but to identical amps with issues was disappointing. I will say this, I was very impressed with their return policy and glad I was able to get my money back for both amps, so there's that. Thanks to this Big D Wiz and his awesome channel, I've since been able to make some educated purchases and bought three D4S (Down4Sound) amps and am extremely happy. FYI, in the past, I've owned (and still own some) various amp brand of amplifiers (i.e. U.S.Acoustics, Proton, Pyle, Kenwood, Bazooka, Infinity, Pioneer, MTX & Blaupunkt with possibly more which escape memory at the moment), therefore, I feel I've had/have a vast variety of amps to compare the output volume from the Skar amps to.

Currently running my Orion XTR750.4 which I love running my components. Waiting on my box I have a tropo 10 which I'm gonna be running with a monoblock. I do plan on buying a couple 4ohm 12s that I'll wire down to 1ohm for when I go to non car show events. Never hurts to have the best of both worlds as well as both A/B & D. SQ+SPL options when you want them. 😏

Marine stereo products are a great way to up your game for your car stereo. Marine amps are better built, and CEI Rated. Think how boats have to handle waves and wake without a suspension. So stereo components have to take that and keep working. Plus, Skar uses a fan with their marine amps, and yet the signal to noise ratio is 105 dB in this amp. That's really good Sound Quality.

Also, back in the day I had one of the long US Amps 125x4 amp in anodized red with the plexiglass bottom so you can see the guts and that amp used to absolutely SLAM my four MTX 15s. It was .25 ohm stable and that thing never even got remotely close to hot. I won quite a few competitions with that setup.

I have run both the rp and skv. Although the rp is a nice amp. The skv sound quality is night and day. The skv has much better sound quality by far. I've tested both with a scope. Korean vs china. I run an rp in my daily driver and the skv in my theater sound truck both have lc units in them. I think it's all about price per watt for most people though. For budget bangers vs quality. Skar is still hard to beat for what you get. Just like many Brazilian amps. My taramps hd10k is still banging hard. It's old but still sounds good. It's what you want vs what you can afford. I really appreciate big d and hifi for what they show however. Really nice work with what they do showing newbies to the world of bass.

Excellent review. I've been using the skv2 100.4 for a few yrs. It replaced a beat up dual 4 channel. I can say it does sound cleaner. No weird, notes like the dual. Gets hot but with the ac dm608 it sounds decent. Disappointed with the ratings but most run 4ohm n 150 w is louud af. Hope they revamp their line soon

Sq is absolutely subjective just like setting up YOUR eq to YOUR ears. I like a full sound and for everything to be pretty well leveled with the mid range (150-500ish Hz) being slightly less pronounced. But, that's my setup. How do you guys run yours?

Idk if anyone else looks at it this way, but I do. If your amp comes within 20 watts of ratings then it has met it's rating. I say that because you will never hear a 20 watt difference. 480 watts sounds the same as 500 watts.

Man, that marine equipment takes me way, way back. If you wanted white amps and a white head unit, that was the only option. Buying garbage coaxials just to get white grills even. If you were lucky you might even find some decent white 2-way components.
