Skating is at such a high level these days, most kids that should or could be pro don't get the chance. I skated amateur in my younger years and got flow from a distributor in Europe. I still skate at 51,might have a pad or 2 more than the kids at the park and still do tricks many can't. Once a skater always a skater! Never give up.

9:01 I often have to think about this. I like to watch the WSL. The surfers all have to be flown to the events, they stay in nice accommodations, they only surf when the conditions are good and only then does a contest go live. As far as I know, surfers don't make bad money. Skateboarding has a longer reach than surfing, but something isn't quite working yet. I can't say myself what could be changed, but especially pros could earn a lot more.

Pro skateboarding doesn't pay the bills unless you're a top tier pro. The Jamie foys, Reynolds, Bufoni, O'neil, Rodriguez, Yuto. etc, etc. Skateboarding is awesome but doesn't cover bills for the majority of the pro's that are out there. Then when you're too sore and old and barely relevant at 35 - 36 then what? You're at least 10 years behind and you're retiring in your 70's. That isn't life. You can still hold down a 6fig+ job and rip on the weekends in your 30's

I really depends on how you define "pro" in this context. Is it, an established skateboard related company puts out a skateboard related product with your name on it? Or is it, all or most of your income comes from skateboarding regardless of corporate involvement? The latter definition makes it way way more possible today. My position is that's the correct definition.

In baseball you only make any money in the big leagues. Minor leaguers are still professionals but make absolute dogshit money. Some guys in the minors only make $1500 a month, despite working 27-28 days a month for 10-11 hours, and those few off days usually include 10-12 hour bus rides to another city. You will easily have 10-12 players sharing a small apartment, because most minor leaguers have to buy their win equipment and pay for their own recovery, physical therapy, etc. And, you only get paid in season, so the majority of guys work at grocery stores and shit in the off-season. Some guys can live off their signing bonus, but that’s a small amount of players. The minor leagues in baseball are an absolute grind man and it’s always reminded me a lot of skateboarding. It’s part of the reason baseball has way more draft “busts” than any other sport. A lot of guys get drafted and then just can’t handle the brutal lifestyle of the minor leagues.

I completely disagree. Here we go with 9 club just wanting to be positive all the time and will give out false infotmation just to seem more likable. Skating is at such a high stage now days and kids that are really good keep popping up consistently, mostly fairly young kids, some really young so its unrealistic to say that you can still turn pro at 30 when there are little kids that are just as good if not better that sponsors will rather have simply because of their age and also for the fact that they're more profitable in the long term. Id argue that back then in the mid to late nineties it was easier fot an older guy to get sponsored.

I'll be turning Pro at Van HB by 53. I'm 51 and right now and can barely walk after about two hours of 10% to 20% skating, but the rehab is so real, kids, Kai, Kiko, Jake, Luke, ok, not Luke, he's too good, but the rest of you I'm coming for you. Feel me? Ok, you will though. No really. Bros, I'm showing up at least shut up.

No. If you're 30 and still skating you need to rethink your life choices and get a real job.
