Ya we’ve never had the public support from the world like biking has. Everyone & every city supports bikers in someway shape or form. Skaters are treated like shit lol. So it’s not like they are spending any money researching anything to help develop skateboarding like they would with biking. A street in my city is literally changing from 2 lanes to 1 lane just to accommodate “bikers & pedestrians” not skateboarders 😂

i had a super tall, super talented friend who went through boards so fast, he kept the long board to get around and the popsicle board strapped to his back pack to try and mitigate the wear on his boards and he was still breaking boards and shredding bushings, breaking trucks, busting barrings, dude was a beast.

Sounded like a fucking shopping cart rolling down the street and I'm pretty sure I bent the nose on a flat ground fs shuv and soon after it just crumbled. I will highlight Stink Skateboards and Black Labels power beam series as very strong well made boards of that era.

I just switched from a 14.25”wheelbase to a 15” and I’m only 5’6”. I was nervous to switch because of how much wider it is, and I can absolutely feel the difference on 180s and shove its, but after taking a bit to adjust I actually really like it. I find it rotates those things easier, because of the wider swing happening from the fulcrum, and sticks to my feet better.

What Crob said at the end is very true - with the resurgence of so many people who used to skate taking it up again (people in their late 20s to 50s), some who are overweight and obese - there is definitely a need for this type of technology, but it doesn't seem like it's at the point to be marketable to the consumer yet. Hell, it doesn't seem like its at the point where even Cordano can be skating them past 3-4 uses before the normal maple plys (the nanotubes) break and the board goes "dead". A bit more innovation, and something big and eco-conscious is right around the corner! Professor Schmitt - always coming through! 🤟

Now I'm no professor, but I think shoulder width should be taken onto consideration as well as height when choosing wheelbase length. Brian Anderson is another big dude and when he was on here, he said he was skating the orange Classic Eagle(9" wide, 15" wheelbase). If you're tall and/or heavy and/or have broad shoulders, you will feel more stable on a longer wheelbase. You will get used to it. Flip tricks will be a little harder until you adjust, but transition stuff will be easier right out of the gate.

right. i sk8 an 8.25 but i grew up sk8ing a 7.75. so i know a lighter board is easier to flip all im saying... 7.75 is lighter than an 8.25

Anyone else ever notice that when you see a Pro's Skateboard Setup, it always seems like the axle nuts are covered by the outside of the wheel like on the Nano cubics or the old 80s early 90s offset wheels? I want formula 4s that are offset like Nanos are with the spitfire contact patch

Board would be much stronger if they gradually rotated the grains of each layer. Right now each layer rotates 90 degrees but if it were 45 if would be much much stronger. They do this in composite structural design.

I won't ride a wheelbase under 14" because the board is prone to slip out (at 5' 11"). Prefer 14.25 or more. would love to try a 15-inch wheelbase.

This is so true. The wider boards of the early 80s were way too big for me. When They thinned up in the late 80s, I was in way more control. Height and weight, are definitely a shoe size for skateboards. It's really easy to understand. Imagine a 7 year old at under 3 feet trying to do the same tricks, on the same board, as a 13 year old at 5"6. .

Shops are incentivized to not have labels on boards like a shoe size because it would narrow down the choices of viable boards skaters have to choose from even more than it already often is for most people. If the industry was bigger and shops were much bigger it would be less true, but they already probably struggle to move the limited inventory they do even have space to stock and sell, to make it even more obvious to potential buyers that there are more specific sizing considerations is against their self interest of being able to move all the boards they have.
