I don't think so. I was thinking maybe if Star Wars went away for a decade, with maybe a few kids shows for the younger crowd, and then bringing it back like how the prequels happened after that big gap of time after the OT, but I honestly think too many bridges have been burnt. George Lucas is too old, Harrison Ford is too old, Mark Hamill keeps pissing people off, and Carrie Fisher is dead. And all the uncanny valley cgi in the world can not bring an actor back to life, it's just weird and gross.

I've heard Skeleton Crew is not bad, but I can't bring myself to watch it knowing the Star Wars universe has been destroyed by the Disney sequel movies. I might be tempted to complain about some of the series too, but for the most part (Obi-Wan Kenobi being a notable exception) you can ignore those. Everything done in the sequel moves destroys the world building to the point it's not really repairable.

It probably can't be saved, I think the problem is that demand for new Star Wars was once high, but it just couldn't be met, and that is not just because of creative mistakes, but because any new product cannot be a thing in itself, it is always related to a wider mythology and must be consistent with that mythology, and that limits creators too much. Nobody can make George Lucas's Star Wars, not even George Lucas, but you can't expect Rian Johnson of JJ Abrahams to do it either.

You hit it for me on how I just don’t think it can. I thought Andor was really good. But it was a compliment to the OT saga. It adds depth to the OT but doesn’t take away or change it. But Disney/LF fumbled the ST SO BAD that it affects everything it touches. So They could make a kick ass movie, I could be sitting there watching and liking it but Luke, Leia and Han and Lando not being together again, Han/Leia not working out, Luke turning into what he did etc etc will all just be sitting there in my brain like dead weight and again affect everything that we watch. So like many what I need to do it delete the ST and many of the shows from my brain so it doesn’t bleed into the OT/ST and material that makes Star Wars what it was. “So don’t watch it!” Ok. I won’t.

The damage is too great. The only thing to do now is to go dormant for at least 10 years. They could still publish some novels and more niche video games that are not AAA, but Star Wars needs to fade from mainstream consciousness for a time. Let them forget the bad parts and get nostalgic about good ones, then do a revival and do it right. Doctor Who was run to the ground and cancelled in late 80s. They tried to bring it back in mid-90s for American audience, but that failed. Then it was triumphantly revived in 2005. Of course it was eventually ruined again, but we got 10 or so years of great to decent show. One can argue Star Wars too had that kind of silent period. After RotJ there was only a couple of spinoff cartoons and those horrible Ewok movies. For us turbo-nerds the Expanded Universe brought it back, but for general audience it was the prequels, or special editions in 97 at the earliest.

What could be done to save or salvage Star Wars.... Disney, if you truly wish to turn round the diminishing returns, first do not extend Kathleen Kennedy's contract, enact measures to remove her, the creative/influence she surrounded herself with. Next, shelve the High Republic, it's linked with The Acolyte which has tainted everything following that show and the drama. All the while, hire people who honestly understand why for 30 years from its inception Star Wars dominated and where it failed under Disney. Cutback in the 'content', look at the merchandise and see what is still viable. People I believe see no digitally restored classic trilogy original treatment s so do some marketing to see if there is a need to be fulfilled. Beck, do something akin to The Blade runner collectors editions with The original and George Lucas' final tretment. The Star Wars fandom faith in the franchise caused fans since the 70s walk away, people such as myself who got annoyed with Kennedy /Headland rating upon the fan base during the pre-launch which triggered all the drama.

The problem with Disney Star Wars is that every project is held to the same stringent metrics set forth by KK, which limits actual creativity. Once a creator has full control to actually craft a compelling story devoid of agenda then perhaps Star Wars can be reborn, but the very first thing that needs to come out of it's directors mouth needs to be an acknowledgement that the previous efforts by Disney were absolute trash and we wish to course correct and hope the audience will give this new project a chance. More than making expensive nonsense, the trust of the audience is dead. Trust is the easiest thing in the world to get and the hardest thing to get back. They need to focus first and foremost on giving the audience what they want, and not what they think it wants. But that takes effort and creativity, so NO, Star Wars cannot be saved. Perhaps in ten years.

The question isn't 'Can Star Wars be saved?'. The question is 'How much worse can Star Wars get?'. Because every time i think it's hit rock bottom, the next thing comes along and crashes through to new lows. Remember when the Holiday Special was the worst Star Wars? I miss that.

@Houndguardian14 сағат бұрын
Let me ask you a question: Why do you want Star Wars to be saved? Why does it deserve "saving" ? I understand it's easy to proclaim "it's obvious" and then list the many times you've enjoyed the franchise for what it used to be. Completely understandable, but we owe it to ourselves to be honest and acknowledge when a franchise has reached its natural end of its potential lifespan. Star Wars has done just that, arguably before Disney overtook the franchise. This isn't to say it can no longer be profitable. Profitiability in general is an indicator of an IP's worth, but it's not absolute. For one, the weight of nostalgia can inflate an IP's value far beyond what the ideas within would be worth without the IP backing it up. Harry Potter, ANY disney live action remake, Simpsons, Jurassic Park, Star Trek, Ghostbusters, Godzilla and so many more are perfect examples of this and yes, so too is Star Wars. Furthermore, people will often point to the "Legends" expanded universe material, but the material within is so warped beyond what Star Wars is that I can't help but think it is to put all of your eggs in one basket. There is so much untapped potential for creativity out there and to believe it all needs to be in a singular fictional universe is kind of a depressing thought. In fact, the original movies proves that less is more within this topic. Once you let go of the idea that Star Wars has to exist in some better, more ideal version than what it currently does, it all becomes a whole lot clearer. We can do better than just be consumers of products and 'content' and the most beautiful thing about that is that new things can arise from the ashes of franchises such as Star Wars. Sincerely, a fan of the franchise since my childhood.

I would keep only the original trilogy but it would make more sense to keep the prequels too. Then make a brand new sequel trilogy that takes place much sooner after ROTJ. The roles would have to be recast but that's the cost of having a live action film franchise.

It’s a bummer. I loved Star Wars. Even TFA had some magic moments and could’ve been redeemed by a great following film but TLJ is where it all went wrong. There have been some brighter spots like Mando 1, Rogue One, maybe Andor but after the let downs of TLJ, ROS, mando 3, and obi wan I’ve not been bothered to watch anymore. Can’t believe it to be honest. The writers are hacks, and Spielberg’s associate, Kennedy has shown she cannot lead Lucasfilm or run the franchise apart from into the ground. Filoni has good ideas but terrible execution and is in bed with KK. Fave tray has potential but isn’t given much freedom. SW has become a vehicle for the Disney agenda and as long as the idiots at Disney own it, there’s no hope.

Disney TV seems to have a (somewhat) better record of success than the Dumpster Fire factory that is today's LucasFilm. The Walt Disney company could save a ton of money by not having to pander to the "vile den of Scum and Villainy," and could make a bit of money at the box office. But, "'Tis but a dream," eh?;)

CAN it be saved? Yes, theoretically. WILL it be saved? Not a chance in goddamn hell. I see only one way for Star Wars to actually be saved, and it's simply never going to happen. Two things - first, they'd have to wait a long time and let the franchise rest, while giving the entirety of the fanbase time to napalm the bad taste out of their mouths and memories by having no TV series or films. Second, they'd have to adapt Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, and it would have to be a HARDCORE purist adaptation of the source material. I'm not talking them merely swinging the pendulum back, I'm taking Shohei Otani ramming his fist into the grandfather clock and laser beaming the pendulum in the other direction. No agendas, no race swaps, no girl bossing, no questions asked, a near-perfect adaptation of KOTOR. Disney will never do this. The first step to solving a problem is acknowledging you have a problem, and Disney will never outright admit they've run the IP into the ground and torched all fan goodwill to ash. Adapting KOTOR properly would require serious levels of planning and execution, and Disney has shown a complete inability to do either properly.

You are right and that's part of what sucks. Brand damage is a thing and it can be measured. The issue with Skeleton Crew is not the quality. It's the viewership in relation to the budget and revenue per viewer. It had a budget of 136M, but Star Wars hasn't been doing well in terms of budget and Disney can't be assumed to have the child demographic. Each user earns them 6.95 which is abysmal compared to pretty much every other streaming service, but is better than Disney+ has ever done before. In order to break even at 6.95 they need a viewership a bit over 19M. They should have known this wasn't going to happen and budgeted accordingly.
