Looking good. Glad to see this thing coming together. I ended up raptor lining the inside of my fender to prevent rock dings. It is a 2k liner you can easily spray at home. Looking forward to seeing your wrap ideas. Personally I have become a big fan of the proline series from dipyourcar. End up with a very good finish for a fraction of that cost and time. Plus I don’t feel bad changing colors often.

Woo! ... and may I say Hoo! Great to see guys back and such a great result so far. I’m watching another Zed build and it’s just chaotic. Yours is going to be epic! I’d suggest blue for the colour of course. 😉 Really looking forward to the next episode! 👍🏻

Nice work, however I think you will have major fender rub without cutting the original fender steel down. From the video it appears you have no drive train in the car for static right height measurements. Fender overlays are not just a quick bolt on on & done addition, especially running 15 inch or bigger rims on the stock S30 body & double if you plan on lowering the ride height. For the rears the correct method is to cut the inner fender to the top of the inner wheel well arch, cut the outer fender to match & then weld the folded inner wheel arch to the outer fender. This gives maximum possible clearance for tire diameter & suspension travel under load in the rear. The front is similar without the need for welding an inner wheel well arch. However the front & back portions of the front wheel arch must be shaped correctly to allow for full wheel L/R wheel lock with larger then stock wheels.

All the hard work is paying off, car looks great! Your attention to detail is inspiring. Great job laying the primer and good idea with the sound deadening under the fenders. I think i will do the same when i get to that point. Thanks for the highly anticipated update, looking foward to engine install

A thin layer of two part bedliner is the only under carriage coating worth its weight.IT , SOUND DEADENING ( SHOULD BE SPRAYED ON TOP OF THE FRONT CHASSIS. Where the front fenders rest and bolt to as this area collects ( its a shelf) dust dirt and water. PROTECTS FROM ABRASSION, MOISTURE, DOESNT HOLD DIRT , HOSES CLEAN AND THE COLOR DOESNT FADE , MAKING YOUR TIRE WHEEL COMBO POP .

I've been waiting for the update. Looking great. Badass. I dig the black color as well.
@ryanotown226 жыл бұрын
With the sound deadening you could get moisture trapped in there from puddles vs if you did a Bedliner maybe you should do a bedliner first then the sound deadining material
@XavierAncarno6 жыл бұрын
Ryan Lawrence if the bedliner is not breathable enough it could trap moisture and rust the whole thing from inside out. This is catastrophic... there is a shop in NY states that make a video about The whole chassis of a SUV was crumbling like Oreo biscuit.

It’s a Great Learning Opportunity ... DYI. Make mistakes, learn, make more mistakes, learn more. The Pride that you feel when you do your own work .... PRICELESS. The DP90LF is epoxy primer, really not intended as “paint”. Doesn’t offer environmental ‘protections’ that PAINT does (UV, etc.). Others have gone that route, but it’s not exactly “Proper”. In the event that no one has questioned, before mounting the “ZG” flares, one usually CUTS the wheel openings to get them positioned (correctly) with body lines. Was it intentional NOT cutting ? Keep up the good work .... Aaah, was typing WHILE vid going, because I type slowly .... missed the Wrap Plan
@StewartMotoring6 жыл бұрын
Yep, the plan is to wrap it. Thanks for the comment!

Looking good. Please set up a DIY filter system for the garage. I see you have some windows there, so do a search on how to build it with a fan and furnace filters. And spray down your floor with water before you paint. It may not be as important if you're going to wrap it but dust is the enemy of paint jobs and paint is the enemy of your lungs and everything else in your shop.

Looking sweet, nice work man! I would have probably painted the underside of the fenders before you put on that dynamat stuff, afraid it could collect water and start rusting.
@StewartMotoring6 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks, I probably should have done that, but it still had the original paint and etching from factory. So no bare metal exposed. I did paint the underside of the fenders in the black epoxy, which I did not show in the vid.
@punkbloater6 жыл бұрын
Stewart Motoring - you’re probably going to be just fine with that i would think, especially if you don’t drive it on salted winter roads. 👍🏻
@RWBJeff6 жыл бұрын
Great job.....looking awesome. My only concern on the dynamat on the inner fenders would be future moisture and rust. Why not spray a bedliner under the fenders?
@StewartMotoring6 жыл бұрын
A lot have this concern but I think i'll be good. The mat is waterproof and will provide a cushion for rocks where as most bed liners will not. Of course, depends on which liner you buy.

Great build. Makes me want to finish setting up my garage so I can finally start my 280z. Been sitting 2 years in the garage since I bought it. How much do wraps for this size car usually go for
@StewartMotoring6 жыл бұрын
Wraps are really expensive when you pay someone to do it. But ill wrap this car myself. I found a good brand vinyl to wrap the whole car for about 500$. But ive seen full car vinyl as low as 200$ (don't buy this ebay crap) and then vinyl as expensive as 2k for a whole car.
@AlexA-bx8jr6 жыл бұрын
would put some undercoat/bedliner on the underside of those fenders, personally. Looking great man! Liking the spoiler a lot.
@StewartMotoring6 жыл бұрын
That's for sure another option I thought about for the fenders
@MindDezign6 жыл бұрын
Only two part real bedliner just a thin layer especially on the shelf the front fender bolt too. And behind the entire front fenders because the fresh air vent/wiper Motor area ( another most worth spot to spray bedliner, 2 part only ) This is the trough old rotten leaves/ bugs and water sit for seasons and empties out right behind. Lower rear of front fenders. Makes a good arguement for stainless or fine plastic screen to help keep alot of mentioned debri out from the trough. Definitely under coat the trough to make it a sealed never rust zone

Looks awesome man! I was wondering what kinda paint gun and setup you have? I'd really love to paint my own car, but I've never done anything like that. I hear from some people you should just pay someone to do it and other people say you can totally do it yourself. Whats been your experience with it so far?
@StewartMotoring6 жыл бұрын
It takes a lot of practice IMO. It's just like welding, you have to be able to look at your results and know what needs to be changed... air pressure...thinner...wider angle...too close.. all these things. But I have finally got decent. I bought a cheap set of guns that are working out well and have great reviews! DeVilbiss 802342 StartingLine HVLP Gravity Spray Gun Kit

ayeee just watched the video man! great update. I'm a little worried about that sound proof matting you put in the inner guards. I'm pretty sure that will absorb water, which when driving even on a wet road will get saturated. Also the fact you layed it over some areas that were bare steel. that is gonna rust in no time. I know raptor liner (or truck bed spray on liner) like i used on my car is Exxy as, but surly there would be some rubberized spray on coating you could score pretty cheap that goes on with a schultz gun, and will offer much better protection than that sound matting. Id be ditching that matting while the car is still a shell so to speak, cause if your anything like me, once the car is complete and on the road and all together, i defiantly CNBF doing it then. Looking forward to the engine work!
@StewartMotoring6 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, it's water proof. The mat will provide a cushion for rocks where as a raptor liner will not. This was my thinking.
