Steve Winwood conjured some kind of musical magic when he wrote this song. It still shines through 45 years later in this performance. Tom & his band mesh perfectly with him. Can you imagine hearing your audience singing the words of your song along with you? Steve, very humbly, just plows through it soulfully, with no acknowledgement, a true professional. This is a timeless presentation of a classic.

But because these musical legends and talents aren’t my friends or family, they are the closest people to me. They never disappoint. I think this rings true for many. Tom had it all - talent, wit, humility, kindness, sensitivity, confidence and looks and more. I miss him so much. So thankful I got to hear him 4 times since coming to know who he was in 2006! Well, there is great irony in the fact that this song is about being lost in drugs and alcohol and the disorientation that involves; "Come down off your throne and leave your body alone. I moved around alot my 1st 20 yrs and had a re-occuring bad dream where I would go from home to home, looking for where I now lived.........I would always get up and play this song, with tears. It helped.

To have been young and to have been apart of all this magic and talent. You wont, unfortunately, see this again-for decades. What a wonder it all was.

There are so many reasons that this video is so great…the acknowledgment of Steve Winwood towards Mike Campbell throughout, the crowd response as soon as the vocals begin and then Tom, like a proud father, just soaking it all in. This is just so awesome!!!

It doesn't really matter who Mr. Winwood plays this song with, it's a hit. It's he who is the key!

hOW2 ABOUT THIS faceoff- Winwood vs ,,, Roger McGuinn , , one on one- jam vs jam. No superstars in either corner. I say McGuinn would just rip him up-alone.

Thanks to You tube and Jim Powers I can say I saw Tom Petty and Steve Winwood on my birthday in 2014. I was nowhere near Philly on that day but I am there now. Must of been a killer show.

Tom would have been 67 today. Only God knows what his music meant to me over many years. And still will...thank you for sharing this. It is good to see the Heartbreakers smile, especially Tom. I pray he is where there are many rooms, at the Top.

Wow! Stevie Winwood, one of the BEST! I was listening to this stuff in a high school when it came out! Still singing it. He is so talented. Admired the graciousness extended between the men on that stage.

Steve Winwood earned the serenity he shows the hard way. One of the best parts of this video is to me is his humble greeting to the crowd at the very beginning. It gets better from there.
