There are parallels with 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland insofar as negotiations with British leaders about a move towards a free state were advanced -- and had been since 1914. In that fateful year WW1 broke out and the Irish Easter Rising had been actively discouraged by the top tier of Irish negotiators. Michael Collins did not even know that the Dublin Rising had started and was far away in a rural region. 1916 was also the year of the 1st Battle of the Somme. There had been no conscription in Ireland yet thousands of Irish volunteers joined the British army to fight "the greater enemy" of Germany, which had violated Belgium and France. The 1956 Rising need not have happened but, in both cases, muddle led to violence and trying to take on a far better armed power was and is not very clever. The critics in Hungary really need to read their own history, understand the simple point made and stop using it for their own fame and party advantage.
