Can't Shift Out Of Park-Easy Solution

I had very old ford windstar. When I wasn't able to shift out of park I use the steps below: 1. I would have to restart engine and let it sit there for 5 minutes without doing anything first, then check that the gear is still in Park. I then step on brake, and see if i can shift gears. If yes, then good, 2. if not, my trick was to gently try to turn the steering wheel a little. If the wheel turns, then I have to shift gears quickly before it "freezes" again and everything‘s going to be ok. 3. If the wheel didn't turn at all, that means I had to restart engine and try again, usually i can turn the wheel and quickly shift gears while foot is on brake from start to finish. 4. If that still didn't work, the last option is to turn everything off, take the key out, reinsert key, restart engine and try to turn wheel, then it'll definitely let you shift gears. The key is as soon as you're able to turn the steering wheel, you should quickly shift gears. Time is of the essence. If you delay shifting gears after being able to turn the steering wheel, you will be back to square one.

Helpful video.perhaps, whenever my car was parked on hill I did usually find it hard to shift the transmission stick from park to either reverse or drive. Grateful!

So wtf am i supposed to do if i dont have the overide, i cant shift weight because im in a 6000 pound suv with a column shifter? Well when i usually get in this situation i just give it a bit of gas and shift

Also, if you just want to get the key out because it won't turn into the "off" position, you can disconnect the negative cable from the battery and it will override whatever it forcing the key to stay in and it'll come out. Read about that, but tried it for the first time today.
