If you pull the tray out that is on the right of the shifter there is an opening where you can reach in with your finger and move the pink part that will allow you to shift the car without removing anything other then the tray.

Yes your right but I went in the gear box to move the pink part. Whatever works!

the undertray bypass doesn't work if the return spring attachment point on the shift interlock actuator is broken. the default position is to allow travel (spring attached, tension sets actuator into position unless ignition lock cable is activated/locked) - the actuator locks/pulls that cable and the tension decompresses said spring when your trunk is open or your keys aren't in the ignition. If the spring isn't attached, the tab doesn't return to the "Default" position without manually being pushed over.

Got my car used (it's a 2008), so I don't know if it has this upgrade, but I think about it every time I use the shifter and go slow and easy not to break it. I suppose I can look inside to see if it has been replaced assuming they replaced it with one that isn't pink.. (The part - $6.95 - all aluminum w/ 2 springs w/ free Prime shipping). I might buy one just for back-up. And yes, MotorCity Mechanic has a great tutorial. Thanks for the video!

@@yolandawilliams9762 It could be a DIY I did it myself its a bit involved you gotta remove the gear box & open it to install the new part. If you or a friend has some sense of tools & ability it can be done. It took me 3 hrs to. A mechanic can probably do it in an hr. The new part is about $20 on Amazon

I have a PT Cruiser and I am going through the same thing: won't shift from park to another gear. Does this plastic part go bad on this car too? I imagine it is similar since they are both Chryslers. I can release it the same way as you did with this car? My mechanic was telling me to release it but I couldn't find what he was talking about. I was told it could be my brake light switch even though my brake lights are responding. Thanks! This video is informative.

Hello not sure if it's the same part but it is made by Chrysler so it could very well be. That part has become such a problem that Chrysler should really recall that repair. Good luck with your repair

I repaired it twice. Once at the dealership once at a cracker barrel parking lot by a very kind mechanic from the Chrysler dealership felt sorry for me and my daughters. Because he saw I had just spent 800.00 a week ago. Bless his heart.

I can't give you a for sure answer without seeing the problem. But that wire Has to connect to the interlock. Probably because the interlock mechanism is broken. This is probably why your having this problem. Good luck with your repair

Yes your right I watched the LONG version video of this fix & I took the long road to the repair regardless Chrysler should have never put a plastic piece in a mechanical device. I guess thats why the newer 300's do not have a stick transmission. They have a knob you turn to put in drive. Amazing

Sam regeneruje wybierak. I to nie tak dokońca jest tu pokazane gdyż jest jeszcze metalowa osłona i wtedy trzeba dużo więcej elementów rozebrać, porozpinać by było dojście w 300 C takie jak na filmie. W Polsce jest zamiennik taki metalowy który trzeba przerobić ręcznie na tokarce bo nie pasuje. Ale film na plus pozdrawiam.

Not sure on the cost but the last time I went to Chrysler. The labor was $150 an hr! That was about 2 yrs ago. It took me 3 hrs to do this job. An experienced mechanic can probably do it in half that time. So you have to do the math. Plus parts! But remember if you go to Chrysler to do it they will put the SAME but new plastic piece back in. So you made have the same problem again in the future. Good luck with your repair

I took apart the bezel + top frame and it looks fine and no parts are broken off but I still have to move the thing manually with a screwdriver to change gears.

It's weird cause last year before winter the car was fine "2006" Chrysler 300c" moved it and it sat all winter, went to move it again today this happened. Exactly like in your video, did what you did and it worked. My dad thought it was the transmission seizing up since it sat all winter. Just weird cause I hadn't touched it since the last time I moved it so I don't know why it's locking up. Nothing looks broken either.

Okay I followed your instructions took it all apart no broken parts I also had the electrical connections tested and they were good I was told there that it might be the brake pedal sensor so I had it tested and it also was good do you have any recommendations on what to try next thanks Jose Arredondo.

Yea sorry that happened to you, but this is a fixable repair. Please don't pay Chrysler service, they'll fleece you a couple hundred $$. Get the aluminum part ,find a friend or a mechanic who is reasonable or yourself if your somewhat mechanically skilled with some tools. Good luck ,let me know how it goes. Thanks

i'm assuming it did work at some point in time? you likely have to replace an electrical piece in the shifter assembly, or the entire assembly - especially if you're not getting any codes and the car hits all 5 gears.
