You were too lenient, actually. Here are the discrepancies you let us get away with: "I'm not feel" | "during weekend" | "most favourite" | "will going to" | "so I eat" (for an exception we say "so I'm eating") Well, I saved you 2000 ฿ dude. Since each participant made at least one mistake. Hope everyone has learned something. And keep having FUN! (comment below for questions).

Several of us just lack self-confidence, if they throw away those mentality then it is easy! I used to be like this when I was around 18-19. Tho I have background in Christ school, and study in international university (well teacher speak in English) It like many of us just didn't have a change to use English that why they have little confidence.

Paddy is definitely generous. He told them that the grammar has to be correct, but he literally let it all slide. With just a bit of imperfection, the new gens in the capital city can definitely speak more English. No doubt about it. Comparing this to just 20-30 years ago, Back then, it was surly hard to find anyone on the street who could speak English as good as these kids. My country has gone more and more international❤

I spent 12 days in Thailand. While I learnt basic Thai to get by, I found English proficiency varied ALOT. Depending on their level of education and occupation. Most of the Grab/Bolt drivers spoke very little or no English. Most Airport and hospitality staff had decent english. Average Joes on the street could only speak a little bit but there was always a fluent person around to help with English when people didn't understand me. But overall, you can easily get by with just English in Thailand. It's pretty English friendly.

I think it is becuse of the English languge is the National Languge which be used the most. So, in Thai, English languge has been indicated in standard lesson that almost kid need to be tought. However, Thai languge is not famouse in another country, more letter, more intentional ton. It will be so hard for foreigners to learn and take so much to learn.

Paddy, says a lot about the quality of your videos that I didn't just skip through the ad break on instinct 😅 I think it's great how you set the whole thing up by telling the participants that you'd be a real stickler for sentence structure and grammar, but ultimately it was an exercise in building some confidence in your ability to communicate effectively in a second language. Looks like you did a great job encouraging everyone, and they all seemed proud of themselves for having passed. Keep up the great work!!

This is quite an eye opening experience, in the past I think many Thai people didn't have the confidence to speak English but seeing this shows that there is a great improvement, especially in the mindset and the vocabulary, most of the time Thai people are really good at writing English but it seems they are more confident in speaking English, even though this is probably mostly true for Thais in larger cities like Bangkok it's still very promising, thanks for this video Paddy! PS in Thai too but grew up abroad 😉

The old-way Thai educational system focuses more on grammar than the ability to create conversations. Thai starts learning from grammar, not really encouraged to speak. Therefore, they're worried that they will speak incorrectly (wrong grammar, I meant).

คุณอยู่ในเมืองหลวง แน่นอนว่าต้องมีคนที่พูดอังกฤษพอสมควร แต่ถ้าไปต่างจังหวัด จะมีคนที่พูดหรือสื่อสารภาษาอังกฤษน้อยมาก You're in the capital, of course, there will be enough people to speak English. But if you go to the provinces, the will be very few people who speak or communicate in English.

Paddy can you make another video on how you would learn thai if you could go back in time or suggestions for some that can not fully immerse such as yourself. Thank you 🙏
As Thai people, I think that English is not difficult to learn. If you really study it, it would be easy to speak, read or write. But from direct experience as a child before As a child, I thought that English was too difficult, difficult to speak, and had a lot of accents. Some words sound the same but are written differently. And probably because it is not as funny as other subjects such as computers or physical education. Therefore, many Thai children are not interested in English. But when I grow up, I start to see the importance of foreign languages because they are used in studying, working or communicating. Personally, I'm not very good at English right now. Most of what I've learned from at work or a little everyday vocabulary Therefore, I have to use a translation app quite often.
@keegan97 Жыл бұрын
It would have been funny if you failed everyone on sentence number 4. You technically said grammar must be perfect and they all got the grammar wrong on that sentence. Everyone said "me and my wife" which is not proper grammar, you have to say "my wife and I" or it is incorrect. I accidently say words in the wrong order all the time when I speak Thai and my Thai friends are always very quick to correct me. I feel like this is a really common issue when leaning Thai/English.
