I've had groper be interested in my shiny SPG. So shiny things can draw attention.... But it's not worth worrying about IMO. I mostly wear camo spearfishing suits.

I wish it was more popular to have names on fins/tanks just so it's easy to recognise people.

#ASKMARK Thank you for providing a plausible explanation about colours and the ‘bite you’ fish being attracted😂. I believe you have settled a fun topic debate between dive buddies🤣👍Doing a great job Mark. Enjoying vids and podcasts👍

I remember seeing a pretty interesting video about white and black striping, imitating poisonous snakes… And therefore sharks would avoid this pattern, as well as some blue colors, that at depth blended in with the water environment, and broke up the pattern of a diver, as well as just some camo patterns in general, being less likely instigate any curiosity among the sharks. I believe this study was done in Australia a few years back. Do you remember this? Any comments about this research?

#askmark Hi Mark, thanks for answering questions from the scuba diving community. I'm new to the channel and have been an instant fan. I'd like to ask, how are you keeping your transmitter safe from being grabbed like a handle or being physically damaged in general? I wanted to know if there are other / better ways of doing it. Mine is currently attached to a 6 inch hose and bent and tucked inward using a bungee cord. Thanks for answering!

That's about the best we can do to prevent transmitters being used as grab handles by fitting the transmitter to a flexible fitting. Another thing that I tend to do when passing my set up is that I try to pause at the high point so that they feel like they have plenty of time to get a good hold or present them with a handle first so that they know what to reach for instead of just grabbing the first thing their hand finds.

What is a good colour wetsuit so that tame fish are not wild?

#askmark Hey mark i saw your previous video regarding the combo inflator , what should be done if that combo inflator fails? And can you explain how it works a bit more in depth, thanks
@ScubaDiverMagazine Жыл бұрын
Sure, quite simply they're a standard inflator with inflate and deflate buttons to control your buoyancy. But also built into the inflator is a 2nd stage with a separate purge button and exhaust valve that a diver can breathe from in an emergency. If you push the inflate button the air flows to your BCD bladder. The Dump Button and air in your BCD will vent out from the mouthpiece or exhaust valve. And if you push the purge button then air will flow to the mouthpiece. If one fails completely then you would need to orally inflate just like any other BCD but, you would also lose your AAS or breathe from a freeflowing 2nd stage

Hi is it good to use free diving fins in scuba diving...?
@ScubaDiverMagazine Жыл бұрын
You can do, they can be a little clumsy in confined spaces but, I've used them for scuba diving before.

#askmark Hi Mark, what about those multi layer materials such as Mares Ultraskin ? Can they be considered as a substitute for thinner neoprene or are they more like rashguards with some added thermal protection ? I am looking for some 2 or 3 mm gloves and hood and these Ultraskins looks like interesting option . Thank you
@ScubaDiverMagazine Жыл бұрын
While it's hard to make a direct comparison, most divers find these types of suit equivalent to a 2mm neoprene suit. With the added benefit that Ultraskin is neutrally buoyant and breathable. I've used them before in warmer waters and they are good to take the edge off and provide some insulation where I didn't want a full neoprene suit.
