As a rangers fan, maybe. But maybe as in they have as good a chance as any other team. They’re in that nebulous space of if a few things go their way they win and if they have some bad luck they’re out. Throw in the randomness of hockey and it’s anyones guess. Basically they’re definitely contenders. I do think this core can pull it off, especially if Laf stays on his track (which it seems like he will) and if Mika shows up when he needs to (which it seems like is just up to him at this point). Only real red flags are Trouba, not really solving the 1rw issue, and if Chytil can stay healthy.

I had the weirdest dream, Shannon. I was in your car, presenting your board from the backseat, while you were giving me instructions on how and what to do, all while your vehicle was in self drive mode. I was a bit concerned how you trusted the car to drive us 100%, but you were sat in the front passenger seat looking back at me all the time seemingly unfazed by any "risk". Anyways, the Rangers will be a good team and make the playoffs, but they'll have a hard time making the Stanley Cup final. Zibs is a bit too streaky and needs to score 5on5. Chytil needs to stay healthy. Kakko needs to catch me off guard and have a surprisingly good season. Others need to maintain a very high level and not drop back in play or production. Then maybe they can win...

Thanks THG for everything you do. Rangers are mostly unchanged. Kakko and Lindgren have a huge prove-it year ahead of them. Trouba is gone after this year, if not the trade deadline. It's hard not to focus on the year AFTER this season, when the contracts for Lindgren, Kakko, and Trouba expire, leaving about 14M in cap space. But there is this upcoming season to think about, and we're pretty locked in to our lineup. I've been the biggest Kakko fan there could be since we drafted him but he hasn't nearly met expectations. That being said, this team can put him in the bottom 6 and still compete in the playoffs. If Igor, Panarin, and Fox do what they do, we have the best in the league at every position except center. I was 3 years old in 94, but I do hope that when Sam Rosen said This One Will Last A Liftetime that it didn't apply to mine.. because I want to remember one.

Kakko and Kotkaniemi are both "busts" considered where they were picked he's not gonna do anything more than he already has. They're both another Puljujarvi. Shannon I am a life long Rangers fan. I bleed blue. And I cannot see this team winning a cup anytime soon. I am glad you do, because you know more about overall hockey than I do, where my speciality is The Rangers. The Rangers have always been a novelty act. The Las Vegas residency of washed up talent. Until Messier. The Messiah. I ask this of all my friends who are Ranger fans: On this current team (curious you didn't mention Rempe lol) who can you see hoisting the cup? Panarin? No. Kreider? No. Mika? No. Trouba? No. They usually go all the way down the line to Shesh. The freaking GOALIE! That's the problem, the team is rudderless. Without leadership. Did you see Chris K never answer any of the intimidation Florida put on him? They would bump him during commercial breaks, and he didn't care. Laviolete is a corporate guy. He's not winning a cup anytime soon. And now we're counting on an older core, with no big changes. I think Einstein said something about that. We've also lost our Prodigy goalie coach. This was supposed to be the year, but they just gave up. These are the "deep flaws" we true fans know and talk about, but are never addressed because we're winning. And when we lose, we don't do any self reflection, because "it's a loss put it behind you and move on to the next one." The teams that win cups are mean son of a bitches. Brutal. They'll get to the playoffs again, and just give up once again. It doesn't matter to them. They're already adored by the biggest city in America. They're millionaires. They get an early summer vacation. It's like in Major League II when he starts talking about how he can't be throwing heat, because he has a "career". Thanks for making this vid.

Personally, its a run it back with Igor or bust this year. If he's gone next year, the window could really close. I think Drury balks at 12% cap hit with Igor and lets him go & he won't survive the aftermath.

Nope, they're as cursed as all the Canadian teams. You'd need a multiverse's worth of all-star players to get them a Cup. In all seriousness, the Devils should rebound, the 'Canes will still be pretty good and the Atlantic division will still be the strongest overall - I don't see NY even making the Finals. Even if they do, they'll be too beat-up to beat the Edmonton McDavids, Colorado, Dallas, Vegas or whoever wins the West.

Nope. Even with Shesterkin playing out of his mind, they still fell short. It's difficult to believe they'll get further when they don't have a first line RW (Kakko is a bust), Trouba is still on the team, Zibanejad looks to be declining, Kreider and Panarin are getting older, and they have limited cap space to improve.

That is most sports franchises though. Actually, most are even worse. NY is always under pressure because of the market. That is why Toronto and NY struggle to do full rebuilds. The media and market pressure never allows it. The Rangers have done well considering that.

Rangers fan here. It’s not happening as long as they still employ Jacob Trouba $8 million dollars to play third pair D. Sad reality but it is what it is. He cost them in 22, he cost them last year, and he ruined any chance at them getting better this offseason. Quite the Captain we have in NY

I am going with yes for a Stanley Cup or at least a trip to the cup finals in the next two years. East got weaker/balanced this off season. More competition but the high teams got worse. FL isn't going to be the same team. Boston is falling apart. Toronto can't get out of the first round. Caps and Pens are done. Islanders dont have a good team. Tampa lost pieces maybe aged out. Devils made some additions but who knows where that actually goes. Carolina got worse. So it should be easier to get to the cup this upcoming year than last year. Even if Ottawa/Buffalo/Detroit find their way into the playoffs, none of them are going to be a legit contender. So can they beat Dallas, Vancouver, Edmonton, or whoever else might come out of the west? That sounds much more challenging then just getting to the cup.

Though I hate the Rangers, they've got a good team. They could win the cup, but I don't think they will. In fact, I think they've peaked. And what's more, they're screwed after this year in terms of cap space. All of their players on expiring contracts are going to get raises. Many of them, like Shesterkin, Lafreniere, Miller and Lindgren are getting significant raises. That could easily be as much as 20 million in raises right there. And that's without all the other players whose sub-1 million contracts are expiring. If they don't resign Kakko and Smith, that's about ~6,7 million with the cap space they have available right now, plus however much the cap is increasing next year. So I predict a good regular season, a disappointing playoff performance, followed by a brutal offseason.

This isn’t the same conversation everyone had when the Bolts kept failing in the playoffs. I don’t feel like the Rangers have the kind of team so no, this team isn’t built for a win.
@GregAllenF1
@GregAllenF1 2 ай бұрын
Can you defend your reasoning for that? To me, this team is very similar to Tampa. They are a few pieces away and have some great prospects coming up. Only thing that reason concerns me is over paying Igor soon.

@@GregAllenF1 I honestly feel they rebuilt too quickly. Once again they’re building around a generational goaltender. This is wrong if you don’t have the other necessary pieces. Panarin is great, but he hasn’t been able to prove his playoff play and he’s only getting older. Fox sometimes looks like he has lead in his skates. And let’s not get into Mika. You build around a generational forward (preferably two of your lucky enough to be Pitt or Edmonton) if you want a true contender.
@GregAllenF1
@GregAllenF1 2 ай бұрын
@@franklulatowskijr.6974 I agree about the goaltending. I do think NY is blessed and cursed with great goalies. That said, I don’t know about the other stuff. Fox and Trouba both played through injuries all playoffs. The forward idea is nice, but Edmonton didn’t do that much better either. They almost got swept too. I’m not sure I know which team I would pick to have a better chance at winning a cup, but if I’m being honest, I would like NY over Edmonton in a 7 game series. It seems like both teams couldn’t deal with Florida’s physicality.

This team has peaked. Present Rangers GM Chris Drury is dealing with former GM Jeff Gorton’s contracts. Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider, & Trouba all have no-trade lists. None of these bloated contracts are movable. Gorton agreed to put a clause in Trouba’s contract that he cannot be traded until his significant other who is a resident MD completed her residency to Attending MD. I believe she has one more year. Otherwise Trouba would have agreed to the potential trade to the Detroit Red Wings. No one wants Mika at the amount he’s signed to. The Rangers line: Mika, Kreider, (insert forward du jour) can’t be trusted to get to the Stanley Cup. At times, the 3rd line plays better than the Mika/Kreider line. I think at the trade deadline..Lindgren, Kakko get moved. Just too many bloated contracts, too many free agents , and not enough cap space. 🤷‍♂️
