The LVX is powerful and impressive when it comes ballparking other digital delays, but gets no closer to sounding analog than any other digital delay.

Totally hear you! It’s not analog (as you know), so while it may not be exactly the same sound, it’s an option to get close if you only need/want 1 super delay, at least for me

Right?!?! Yes the LVX can get close to the sounds, which in and of itself is a powerful thing. BUT it can only do 1 at a time. Owning the individual pedals give you so many more sounds at your immediate disposal! In some ways the takeaway from this video could be, “ok so I can’t afford all 4 CBA’s, but the LVX will do!” Something like that

Great comparison!, although I think those 4 Clase Bliss pedals overlap themselves in many ways they're also unique on their own and their special characteristics shine on tweaking their control knobs as there are so many random and unpredictable elements even when using very similar settings, the LVX is so far the most powerful digital delay unit and can emulate most if not all of current delays and produce some effects no other unit can, It'd be great to see how a more affordable delay unit can emulate these boutique pedals, for example, using an HX Stomp or HX Effects to emulate Chase Bliss or LVX

Hey there! Yes the LVX is probably king of the mountain at the moment for powerful digital delays as it can do most anything very well. Sure the Chase Bliss pedals go much deeper in their specific realms (and arguably I have the Habit & Mood set similarly to the RMC, but they both can do much much more!) The Stomp is actually $100 USD more than the LVX, so I wouldn’t say it’s more affordable. At this point strymon or boss or source audio might have the only ones capable of getting close to Chase Bliss my sounds, but nowhere as near as the LVX

I take that back. The HX suite of delays could be close to Chase Bliss stuff in certain algorithms, but not nearly as adjustable. I have HX Native, and realize it has some good glitchy delays in there

I recently got the lvx and I really enjoy making patches. Its perfect to bring to life things you have in your head. I m still keeping my habit and mood which i find more immediate.

100% agree! The LVX has less limitations overall I feel and let you really get creative, but sometimes that means you fiddle too much and never settle! The Mood and Habit are very special and do things nothing else can!

@thepedalcollaborative I love clouds by Mutable instruments and the granular section of lvx seems equally good so far...for a month now that's all I have been exploring....actually that's what I ve been doing the last 4 hours....I try not to get lost using too much....granular some pitch shifting and a sequencer, the preamp and dynamic sections help bring everything together

Great presets! Your Reverb Mode C preset however shows (just like mine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp-lepidiNShqbM) a limitation of the LVX: The original Empress Superdelay, and the CBA RMC that is based on those Empress algos, creates octaves-up by playing back the delay memory at double speed reverse, twice in a row. The ICE mode on the Strymon Timeline does a similar thing, but forward. The LVX can get in the same sonic ballpark using pitch shifting, but you will get typical digital pitch-shifting aliasing, especially when playing chords as at 07:25 - same as if you try to replicate RMC / ICE on e.g. Helix/HX devices. That’s why Superdelay, CBA RMC and Strymon ICE sound more organic (at least to my ears) than any pitch-shifting-based delay or shimmer reverb algos.

@TheGuacamoleXplosion I think you’re correct about the HX stuff. And if you think of the HX and LVX/MercuryX as signal paths where you can put effects modules in certain places along said chain, the HX makes the most sense. Chorus before compression? Check. Lo-fi after glitch? Check. I think you’re onto something! I’ll have to start digging into the HX vs LVX/MercuryX now! 😂

I am sort of confused. Had you tried to make an LVX preset to match the Chase Bliss pedal you were comparing it to, I might've understood the premise of this video. Also...have you ever listened to your own mix...turn your vocals up...OR don't speak.

This video is showing 6 presets we made on the LVX and the coordinating settings on the Chase Bliss pedals that inspired them. Not all presets were designed to exactly replicate. As for the mix, we’re always looking for ways to improve the sound, including balance between speech and music, however this isn’t a hype-man channel, so keep that in mind.
