Here is the vlog that a lot of you guys requested! So I made two things happen in one video! I needed to get an IDE drive so I thought I would take you guys along with me to check out my favourite places to hunt for cheap used parts (and buy them if I found any), so at the very least you will get to see my methodology.
Also when hunting for these parts it is usually the lots that don't work (so probably one or two parts in the rig are faulty), though I find if you pick out all the working parts from a few bargains you can then make an awesome PC like I did in the:
$40 PC vlog here - • $40 PC - Is it Possibl...
And of course I try my hardest to fix this broken motherboard!
Also this segment, the bargain hunting begins at - 2:26
Anyway if you have any questions then let me know in the comments below!

That's so funny, I am watching your videos and not realizing you are in Japan until this video. I am living here in Oami right next to Togane. In fact I have gone to the Wonder RX that is in your video. :) What a small world!!!! Considering this is a tech video I never suspected you would be so close, and making the tech world even smaller. Another Gaijin!!!! woohoo I love tech and pretty much a tech geek myself, I really love the surfing and laid back lifestyle here. Welcome to Japan from another gaijin!

As you know I have a P5Q motherboard and that that Marvell BIOS adapter can be disabled. From your video it looks like you're unable to enter motherboard BIOS setup due to this screen, but this Marvell controller is like an add-in adapter card. So this Marvell BIOS loads *after* the PC POSTs, which means you can enter the motherboards BIOS before that loads in. So you just need to disable it. When you see the Blue P5Q screen appear, or you hear the beep after it POSTs, repeatedly hit DEL key and it should enter bios. Once you're in BIOS Go under ADVANCED - Onboard Devices Configuration - Marvell IDE - set to DISABLE and you should be gold. While writing this message, i enabled the Marvell controller (actually i changed to default BIOS settings on my P5Q PC, and windows 10 had a SHIT FIT seeing this new device and it rebooted twice, and now it wants to repair it self. WTF? Best bet turn off that useless controller.

Know this is old but. If its not bent pins or bad bios chip. Often you can reflux and recook the motherboard to get it working again. You can modify a electric radiator to recook electronics or if you have a tabletop oven big enough for motherboards and other circuit boards that will work as well. As long as it hold constant temperature and doesn't go over temp.

a low cmos battery can do stuff like that. brake cleaner is some strong stuff. id think it would eat the coating on the board. ive fixed water damaged laptops by dipping a toothbrush in alcohol and scrubbing all the circuitry and legs for connectors. a small bit of corrosion or mineral deposits can cause a short that just getting it wet with brake cleaner wont remove. if it was something worth fixing youd inspect every square inch of the board with a magnifying glass

usually I try hitting reboot instead of shutting down when a board won't post. Then turn off and unplug the machine and take out the cmos battery for like a min or so and put it back in and turn it on and usually majority of the times it posts and boots.

Nobody's gonna say it? Some have mentioned a bent cpu socket pin and it DOES look like that is a possibility. But usually if a motherboard isn't posting it is usually the motherboard or power supply. Try a different power supply even if a power supply tester says it's good. If motherboard bad - replace it's capacitors, it's easy enough if you can desolder and solder without tearing up the pads or overheating everything. You should have a peizo speaker on the motherboard to make with the beep codes. They sell them cheap cheap.

good video, thanks so much for doing this! I bought an old LGA 1366 Supermicro for $42,00 US, installed a Xeon 6 core 5660, worked well but the Northbridge Chip was hard to cool, and kept getting IO Hub temps of up to !05 to 107C, However I re routed cabling (after watching another tech vid) and now the board will not post, did everything, but no post. Does a no post mean the CPU is dead and the motherboard? I wasted $50 bucks (the Xeon was like $ 9 US -- possibly a bad cpu? ) but not a lot of money to lose since I am learning. Finding old but doable boards and multi cores for next to nothing is a fun hobby
