@j.m.74
@j.m.74 8 жыл бұрын
+Martin Roussev socks + carpet can make static electricity buildup in the body, which can then be discharged/released into sensitive electronic (computer) components, and if so, they tend to get fried internally from massive over-voltage, even if those parts still look ok on the outside.

+Dyluhn maybe the last scrapyard wars with the assignment to build the best price/performance PC if the gt 430 doesn't crash in the firestrike benchmark. But in terms of gaming perormance it would have lost. the gt 430 is a low(est) end card. Even a two year older gt 8800 beats it by a huge margin. the graphics cards at scrapyard wars are a completely different league.

I found a computer by the side of the road once, it had an msi am2 board, a sempron le 1250, a 450w psu, 250gb western digital hard drive, 2gb ddr2 ram. When I plugged it in and tried to turn it on, it wouldn't post, but then I took out the ram stick and put it in the other slot and it worked. This is probably why they left it out by the side of the road. It was a custom built bought from a local computer store that I know of, and it had an updated bios, so I could install some am3 cpus in it. It now has 4gb ram, amd athlon ii x2 250, a gpu that I had lying around (amd radeon hd 6450) It had windows xp installed when I got it too, it now has windows 7.

i got a pc from a relative and i have to tell you it was years old ,never cleaned ! the cpu cooler was thick with what i can only describe as gunk . took around 4 hours to clean it all . the power supply was thick with carpet fibres or some pubic hair . i know right ? never again . i had to open up the psu and clean well it was just as bad . but i gave them it back with some more ram 10 bucks delivered from the ebay and it still works . i like the old stuff ! but dislike old wiring, like the front header wires so i change them out for 2 bucks as the power /reset switch button comes with them . but most run windows 10 with a ram upgrade . 2 to 4 gigs works ok but i think it takes a very long time to set up windows .... ...memory is almost always an issue for these older motherboards . its cheap but everywhere on the ebay a.t.m. it is sent as a sample from china so it costs less in most ads from there. the only reason im mentioning it. is it was pretty much the same pc case . best regards

@Dennn90
@Dennn90 8 жыл бұрын
+Slot1Gamer I think that bios was set to PXE boot, and there was nothing wrong with first motherboard, it definitely didn't freeze. First of all, when testing faulty motherboard, you should clear cmos (either by button on the board or by pulling 3V coin cell battery for 5 min) or if you can enter bios, just set it to default settings.
@everyonesloopy
@everyonesloopy 8 жыл бұрын
+Dennn90 actually no, the marvel 88SE61xx is a secondary Serial ATA controller and it seems to be a problem on this motherboard as a quick google search turned up the same problem as he is having in this video, if he would have turned off the 88se61xx in the bios it would've booted up no problem
@rich1051414
@rich1051414 8 жыл бұрын
+Slot1Gamer There was no OS on the hard drive. There was nothing wrong at all. It was getting stuck there cause there was nothing to boot into. He may of needed to use one of the different colored sata connections if one of the sata controllers was malfunctioning tho. Regardless, the phenom ii x4 is better than the q9950.

I love doing this type of stuff. making "old" socket 775 stuff run faster. My last week of vacation I bought a working iMac G3 all in one for $30 on craigslist. stripped out all the old parts and the CRT and put in a newer motherboard and an LCD. Then sold the parts on ebay motherboard, HDD, Power supply all separately for more than what I originally paid for it. The motherboard alone with a blazing 600MHz processor and 2GB of ram went for $40

other thing you can do is hook up a "chassis speaker" to the motherboard header pins specifically for that and listen for bios beeps... they'll pretty much tell you exactly whats causing it to fail to boot. probably have to look up the beep codes but it's a sure fire way to know what's causing it or at least where to look at first. it could be the bios itself as it looks like it's not even loading that up.

I watched this on a rig built from a combination of parts I had on hand, as well as some parts that were given to me in the form of donated "junk" computers; about the only new part in the whole setup is the hard drive. The case originally had a board with several blown caps which I replaced with an ASUS board that supports an Intel Core 2 duo CPU, which I acquired from a Dell computer, 6 gig of DDR2 memory, a graphics card from a failing AMD quad core system, as well as its power supply, and of course the optical drive from that machine

Zyroh If you don't want it falling over, put it on a proper surface. Same thing with a case on, you must put it on a certain surface of it will fall over and break. And yes, you can use the USB ports because they're all on the motherboard except for a possible 1-4 on the case which shouldn't matter too much and probably won't even exist on such a budget like this.

revisit the q9550, it might work properly. reset the bios aka cmos. install a new sata cable and working hdd with OS on it. the initialize message is when it cannot detect a boot drive and tries to boot from network which go on forever. q9550 was my dream pc back in 2009 when i was in japan (my relatives are still there). im in the philippines now and just use an i3 4160. i dont like lga775 anymore due to the cost of the almost extinct motherboards. still a great find btw, im sure someone needs it somewhere.

1. You never put together all the hardware on a second hand PC. You mount the CPU and the CPU cooler and the PC speaker. You then turn on the PC and see if the motherboard beeps for missing RAM. THEN you put in the RAM and start the PC again then wait if it will beep for missing Graphic card (unless it is integrated). You then connect the Graphics card and turn the PC on to see if it boots and passes BIOS checks. THEN and ONLY THEN you should connect any drives. I've seen too many PCs that wouldn't boot or freeze or hang on a BIOS check because of a faulty drive. That is the proper procedure. But even before that to be sure you should change the CMOS battery on a second hand PC. 2. That Asus P5Q was hanging on initializing Marvell 88se61xx adapter which a quick google search would show that it is an additional drive controller which can be dissabled in BIOS. Did you do that? 3. Also did you try to clear the CMOS on the Asus P5Q?

Dude. That "Marvell" Initialization is a ethernet boot protocol, you know, booting the OS from a server? The board is probably fine. If the Ram was bad, it either wouldn't boot at all or you'd have issues after getting through bios, such as hangups, crashing, or freezing during installing or using an operating system. Change the bios settings and tell the board to only boot from hard drives and it should've booted fine. Older boards and completely plug and play sometimes

I found a PC on top of the garbage at this buisiness. Took it home and all it needed was a hard drive. Worked fine. 8GB RAM 600 power supply. Intel i3, I still have it to this day and its my brothers pc, He uses it for games (not heavy) and with a few upgrades here and there it is still running. It was a great deal. Oh and the hard drive I got from a friend so it was a free working pc.

I managed to snag a workstation PC with a Core2 Quad Q9400 and a Quadro K600 for $60 on Craigslist. I then also found a R9 255 and GT 610 combo for $30. I then sold the K600 for about $45 after shipping+fees and the GT 610 for about $15. So in the end I have a Core 2 Quad PC with Radeon R9 255 graphics, 4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD for $30 total. The case is horrendous, and it sounds like a jet engine on bootup. But hey, it works.

I've seen a lot of people saying "Bryan should be in Scrapyard Wars" after analyzing Scrapyard Wars I've come to this conclusion. 1. Bryan lives in Japan where he get deals at extremely low prices and most of his builds are constructed through EBay which takes time while shipping. 2. So in scrapyard wars you don't have that much time plus that is not organized somewhere where you get deals cheaply like you do in Japan. So the argument is invalid!!!

Well I bought my computer as parts, I payed 30euros for a athlon x2 6400+ processor, a pretty good pc case, 400w power supply and a 8600gt graphics card. Sold the proccesor for 25euros, because my motherboard that I bought for around 15euros was not working with that processor, traded my old laptop for a athlon x2 4400+ processor, bought 1.5gb ddr2 ram for about 10euros, I had a hdd and cd/dvd rom already, so I was ready to go. I did all this about 2-3years ago and computer still works (well not perfectly, that graphics card died, but friend gave me a 9800gt, so it was ok). So yeah, building a pc from scrap is totally posible, it can't run all the games, but I can play some of the never titles like resident evil 6, max payne 3, world of tanks on low-medium settings.
