The 919 Hybrid Evo wasn't really made "with all restrictions removed" though. They only had a year to work on the project and had a fairly limited budget, especially compared to the typical budget of an F1 team and still had to make considerations for driver safety and whatnot. With more time and as much money as an F1 team there is a LOT more they could have done with it.

The last section clearly demonstrates that high-speed corners are where F1 cars shine the brightest due to its aero. Close second being braking zones as they need shorter distance and can take even tight corners a bit faster, likely due to lighter weight. LMP/LM Hypercars are more jacks-of-all-trades, which makes sense as they're engineered for endurance racing. That acceleration at the start tho O_o, that's the result of a mix between traction control which an F1 doesn't have, a bit more weight which allows for better grip, and less drag due to the wheels being covered and the overall droplet shape of the car's bodywork and cockpit. All in all, this shows that they are pretty similar cars (though the 919 is modified for record lap). You could say that in a sense, LMP/Hypers give us a fairly good idea of what an F1 would be if it was engineered for endurance instead of sprint. Looking at lap records, they only lap 10 to 15 seconds slower than F1 cars on the same tracks, which might seem huge but is actually not that much when you consider an LMH/LMP car can maintain that pace for up to 24 hours whereas F1 cars are near wasted after a two to three hours. Being able to last 10 times longer at the cost of less than 20 seconds of pace, that's impressive.

I never thought about the pace difference between LMH/LMP and F1 like that before. And when put into that kind of perspective it’s very impressive especially in the LMP1 days as they were much faster than the current LMDH/LMH cars. Although the current wec regulations are far better than they were. I’ll take slower cars with better racing and more manufacturers any day.

Doubt it, the 919 evo wasnt made for endurance but 1 lap pace, The reason the Nordschleife lap by the porsche was in the morning is because the tires wont last long enough if it was any hotter because the tires are so soft.

The only comparison we can make is in SPA where the 919 EVO ran a time of 1:41.7 and the W11 ran a time of 1:41.25. It's very close but you have to consider that the 919 EVO is a Porsche 'skunkworks' project completely de restricted where as the W11 is FIA regulation compliant.

The Porsche did it with no set-up adjustments and little to no preparation, not a single practice session for the driver to learn the car. With a proper set-up I would easily be 2-3 seconds faster than the F1 car at Spa, and then more than 5 sec. at Le Mans.

I think it would be better to find out the result in full gp laps. I don't think both might last 24hrs due to their motivation or principles but knowing the 919 evo is unrestricted and f1 is highly regulated, I think it might lean a bit to f1 since the evo is more like a time attack weapon. So maybe as much as 20 to 30 laps would be good to see. Both would also equally suffer in the tires so that's out of the way.

Tbh if you include them actually consuming their battery power the Mercedes car would have lost by a lot since it would have run out of power significantly faster than the Porsche. Also I feel like the tow from the 919 helped it a lot. Would love to see a lap comparison including energy consumption and in free air.

The biggest difference between F1 and WEC are their braking performances. The WEC cars brake as if they drove into very thick mud. That's still very good brakes. However, F1 brakes are nothing short of slamming into a concrete wall.

Both top speed and acceleration were too low though. The last generation of f1 cars could reach a little lver 360 down an exceptionally long stragith with DRS whilst staying within the slipstream of the car infront of it. The evo on the other hand managed almost 370 uphill without slipstreaming. Realisticly even the previous generation of f1 cars, the fastest generation of any bare non, would not have kept up down the mulsane straight.

Some madmen at a team really need to make an unregulated f1 car because despite how they look, current f1 cars are pretty primitive, imagine an f1 car with active suspension, launch control, tcs, abs, double blown diffuser, fan induced ground effect, active aero, automatic or even cvt, das, 6 wheels, 4 wheel steering, brake steering, das and so much more if they werent restricted

F1 cars biggest advantage is also their biggest weakness. They produce so much downforce that the car can maneuver through turns like nothing. Straights at top speed the down force ends up making the car work against itself. That's why the Porsche was crushing it in the beginning and majority of the race. but got hawked down towards the end. This was cool!

The 919 should be much faster than shown here. There are some reference data for comparison: -TS050 lap at Spa 2017: 1.53:6 - avg speed 221,96 km/h -TS050 lap at Le Mans: 3.14:7 - avg speed 252 km/h -919 lap at Spa: 1.41.7 - avg speed 247,9 km/h Delta avg speed is abt 11,7% at Spa between the cars, so if we take the same delta to Le Mans track we could have a potential 2.54 lap for Porsche. I know that higher the speeds lower the performance increase, but even if we mantain only 10% delta we end up with a 2.57 lap which is way faster than the video. I hope my reasoning is clear!

Theoretically, the W11 is indeed the fastest on circuits, but for it to be proven to be the fastest car of all, it would have to beat the record set by the 919 EVO on Nordshleife, for example.

It’s slower around a track than a regulated f1 car and is also over 100 kg heavier. It has a better launch and top speed that’s, it just holds up the w11 when it’s in front.

The only time an F1 did La Sarthe, was a couple years ago. Alonso (the pilot who did it, markingcthe centenary ofcthe 24h race) commented after the lap: "I'm really happy the lap was not timed. These carsxwere not made for tracks this long. The tires were always cold, the car was over-heating.. It was onecofcthecworst experiences I ever had on a track". So.. Therecyou have it. This "simulation" is stupid.
