Great review, to the point and with all the pros and cons. After deliberation and a few days of thinking about what to do, I decided to skip the $4300 camper shell option and go with this, at the very least to try it out for my Tacoma SB. I look at it as the convertible option. Being that I'm in the LA SGV, I won't keep anything in there anyway...it would disappear. That's what the drawers are for. Additionally, in the mostly good weather here, it will be fun to have it open or out of the way. If you think about it, it's cheaper than a rooftop tent, or a wedge by far. I also like how you can build a rack over them if desired.

OK , if you want to drive in safari mode , BEST to drop and secure the tail gate flap , it sounds weird but creates air pressure to keep dust out when at speed .

Just as an aside - the tear in the window was not covered by the warranty, as the one-year warranty had expired. It was like $100 to replace.

Enjoy the review and feedback on its multi uses. I just got rid of my fiberglass shell for many of the reasons you mentioned. Have a bed when needed but also go camping and carry cargo without it flying off. I never left valuables in my bed with the hard shell, so this would be no different. One option I'm considering is a rear 3rd brake light that's just $39.99 as of today. Easy to wire and tap into one of the rear brake lights.

There are racks that wrap around it that support this function. I think Softopper even partnered with a company that makes this product. It should be featured on their website.

roll it up to the inside.fold the back flap to the inside then roll it up even. first the sides then the back. it all tucks in nicely.and does not collect dirt and rain that way.

Can you drive it through a car wash?
@justinhousman776010 ай бұрын
yup, I do it all the time, as long as it's completely closed up, of course. Best way to be sure the top gets washed.

it's a great product unless you receive defective equipment. Spent months researching and finally spent over $1,300 including accessories for a planned vacation which I had to cancel due to inability to get a functional softopper in time. Too bad it arrived with defective parts. After finding more defects tried to get refund. They will charge you hundreds of dollars to return defective equipment!! Buyer beware. Sure they will keep replacing under warranty, but if they cannot send out one that works the first time how can you trust this company?

For the price I'd go with a hard shell.

Hard shells go for 2500 to almost 3k so this is pretty good for the deal

true but it's not like a hard-shell canopy is hard to break into. At best you're keeping honest people honest.

Most theft is because it's convenient. You would still lock up stuff inside. This just prevents easily seeing what is inside from passers by.
