I believe that we enjoy these videos for 6 reasons. 1. Scientific method. You make a hypothesis, test it, make observations, and come to a conclusion at the end. 2. Optimization, which is interesting and calming to lots of people. 3. Clearly defined goal that is often achieved, which is satisfying. 4. Destruction whenever hitting a wall, which is satisfying. 5. It's mildly educational, especially for those interested in building things for this game. 6. Community engagement, you ask us to make a prediction with you, letting us feel like part of the process. Not to mention the fact that you read the comments and further optimise your builds going forward whenever someone provides some useful information or insight. :) I think that because of those 6 factors, that's why these videos are so popular. :) Though the fact that you're a good steamer, have a cool intro, outro, and logo definitely help as well. Lol

Think about some of your top videos- the tracks ones. Those really forced you to be creative, considering making train tracks isn’t something you’d ever done before, so it became a real challenge. These sound barrier videos are entertaining because of that. So yes, improving on your old designs sounds like an AMAZING video idea.

I am so excited right now, because after close to an hour of testing, I managed to break the 136 barrier, I had to remove every singe grid block, two wheels, and every single connector, but it's possible! Once I gave up on the design ScrapMan used and instead put all engines in a line so they connected to each other without any connectors, and tinkering with the connections in order to attach the back wheels with as little as possible, I instead tried to remove one wheel and connect it with a 2x1 wedge instead, and also removed a front wheel to keep the weight as symmetrical as possible, and after removing the front wheel I realized I can move in the front wedges to just barely connect everything without even needing a connector! Once I tested out this design, I got to FOURTEEN HUNDRED KPH with 135 engines, and so I started to remove more engines, at first I was confused because even with less engines I was still getting to 1400, and I quickly realized that as I was removing engines, the bottom of the creation was lifting up above the ground because the weight pushed the wheels into the ground with 135 engines and slowing it down a bit, and in the end the lowest amount of engines I got to is 105, I tried 104 like 5 times and I do think it's possible, but you would need an absolutely PERFECT angle so I gave up because I already spent too long on this. I imagine even with an infinite map the least engines you could use is about 98 as by the end I was barely accelerating. And some advice for the future :), with a max power gyro using only one wheel on the front and back is good enough if the weight isn't too high, also I noticed you didn't even try to remove the grid blocks above the wheels, not sure why, but you could have 100% removed those grid blocks and just moved the wedges back without any redesigning, this isn't meant to be criticizing you, just some advice I want to give for the future once you try to remake some of the older sound barrier challenges.

@@orsfekete1829While you couldn't make it truly infinite, you could still make it feel infinite in practice. The virtual world would just have to be large enough, it is unlikely to ever see an edge, save for exploits. Minecraft and some others have done this. Minecraft in particular does this by having a world border approximately 30M blocks away from the world spawn point. Therefore, it is inherently not infinite, but in practice, it will be virtually infinite.
@justjay45866 ай бұрын
@@UBAT128This is what they meant by backlooping, although I absolutely hate this method of scaling, because direction no longer holds as much weight. The best way, in my opinion, would just be to increase size until it is VIRTUALLY infinite and unlikely for any player to see the edge at any point. Minecraft has done this for years with a radius of nearly 30M blocks. It's not the easiest or more efficient way, but it is the most immersive and intuitive. The next best would be similar to backlooping(although not actually looping) but in a way No Man's Sky would(world model is already looping), effectively going around the planet, rather than backlooping on the very same plane. Although in NMS, this point of looping back around the planet is also effectively infinite as it is so far away. It's extremely unlikely you would ever walk around that planet, but it can be done.

There are two reasons why I watch these sound breaking videos. 1. I like to see how others solve problems. Another perspective can find aspects the first perspective hadn't noticed. That works in both ways. 2. I challenge myself to find potentially better solutions. Critical thinking and what not. Example: I noticed the front wedges could could all be rotated outward and an upside-down 1x2 shield piece could improve the front and back wheel aerodynamics. I'm gonna test this (and some other things) later. Shield pieces are truly an MVP. Also, special thanks to ScrapMan's editor. Your effort and comedy is truly appreciated.

11:52 Science is fun! While I’m here, I feel like a detachable booster would be acceptable for vehicles that take too long to accelerate. Like, for the RAW engine vehicle, you could slap a booster on there, get up to like 1,200 speed, and then ditch the booster and do the last couple kmh with just the engines. It can still reach the sound barrier, the map is just too small Edit: This is why you watch the whole video before commenting lol. Maybe only use the boosters after you break the sound barrier initially? Or maybe bring them in as a “round two” type thing in a second video: “HOW MANY Bulldog engines do you need to break the sound barrier?” or something like that

Hey Scrapman. I got a cool game/video idea. It’s a race, however it’s a race with chaos by creativity. By that i mean your vehicles can have onboard traps to deploy, a fold out shield perhaps? Imagination is the only limit :>. Of course a gun is allowed by default so the ones behind have a chance also. The rules i have in mind: Blocks: unlimited Complexity: 300? (Not sure really.) Vehicle must have 3 features of anything you want. (2 if that’s too much.) Must have 1 gun. (2 if you want one to be a feature or something, :P) Multi terrain race. (I’m thinking around the treasure island for water, mud and so on.) Playing Trailmakers, it’s always been a dream to have a race with all sorts of possible creations and ideas in play, i sadly just don’t have the friends to use this idea with. I’m sure if you refine the rules and such, it’ll be a really fun time! Especially a great video. :3

I watch these sound barrier videos because they are both familiar yet new and relaxing yet exciting. It’s the same goal every video, but the journey to that goal usually is a little different for each video. This makes it similar in some ways but different in others each time. It’s also satisfying and interesting to see what optimizations you do, using your knowledge from the previous videos. I’ve noticed that you have improved and learned a lot (along with me and everyone else watching) about how Trailmakers physics works from these videos. On the other side of the coin, it’s pure entertainment seeing a vehicular go fast and crash. It’s also exciting seeing the speedometer getting closer to the speed of sound, and the intense waiting of the eventual crash into the corner of the map. Pretty much, this is relaxing and exciting to watch, and I would love to see more in the future!

As an engineer I enjoy watching you encounter problems, thinking of a solution myself, then seeing if you come to the same solutions. This applies to all of your “experimental” videos and they are honestly my favorite. For the sound barrier videos in particular, each method of propulsion presents their own challenge which is entertaining. It also fun to guess how many of a given part you’ll need. While the engine videos are not my favorite super sonic videos, they are still enjoyable. I think it’d be super interesting for you to try glitch propulsion next, for example hinge glitches or UFO engines

Video idea: you ask your discord to send in battle ready creations (fighter jets, tanks, boats, spaceships, etc) and ScrapMan/Yuezi pick like 2-3 each. Then (let’s say ScrapMan goes first) he would tell Yuezi how many powercores, weapons, and blocks the creation has and what it is (fighter jet, tank, etc) then Yuezi would have to build a creation (without seeing the submitted build) that also fits those parameters. For example: ScrapMan chooses a jet with 30 powercores, 6 powercores of weapons, and 140 blocks. Yuezi must build a jet with those limitations.

Something you could try is, instead of having back wheels on a long vehicle like this, you build a wing on it, which gives you force upwards, and when you're at speed, your ground friction gets drastically reduced due to the wing pulling the back up into the air. For me personally, the aspect I enjoy about your sound barrier videos is how I get to experience an engineering sort of optimization happen, even if it's just incredibly similar to all the other videos. Guessing a number is fun for me too, as well as imagining ideas for solutions I could have maybe done better. For me, any content in the format of "I will make the best X possible" with successive optimizations would fill the same sound-barrier shaped hole in my heart.

The simple answer to why we watch these videos is because generally we are not particularly bothered *what* you build, but, we enjoy watching you build and experiment with anything. If you have a concept to test, we will watch. (Or, so *i* think anyways :) )

Great video Scrapman, but one suggestion. If you made the top line of the engines one block behind, layered like bricks, you could have removed some weight since they would have been connected by themselves. Like that maybe you could do it with one engine less

I like those video for the process and because it's you doing them x) the energy and the curiosity is just super cool :D

12:10 it's fun to watch the how you engineer all of these different videos. Even though you come into a video thinking you know everything you need to know about the sound barrier in this game, you still end up learning something new. It means that even though you should theoretically have the same vehicle at the end of every video (except for the size) you still end up with very different vehicles. Also, you're essentially making a 10+ minute video based around a buzzer-beater concept. That's just good content

Two ideas for minor weight improvement. 1. Remove two of the three 2x1 grids up front and replace with a Bulldog engine 2. Remove all three of the 2x1 grid blocks up front and shift the 4x1 slopes back 3 clicks towards the cockpit

You've got my vote for assisting the slower accelerating propulsion methods up to as close to 1200 without the assistance on it's own being able to cross the threshold, then drop the 1st stage and let the test subject complete the task. That won't break the boundaries of the experiment, but let the true speed shine. It's no difference from testing on a banked oval or circular track, if the test propulsion method on it's own can't keep it going after stage separation, you'll need more of that method. You can have two records, one assisted and one unassisted. Do a remake of the previous tests with the new information, experience and blocks, add a snippet from the original testing and see how much you've improved your skills. Then as the unassisted are secured, do an assisted one afterwards. Add in skis as a bonus test.

As a Digital Artist that is drawing 3 hours straight and is absolutely brainrotting because of this, i require seeing this videos. Apart from that, there is this feeling of nostalgia (in a good way) when i see you experimenting in this videos, it revives me back those old memories of me when i was child of me trying to make a car toy fly by slapping some cardboard wings on each side and putting some fireworks to see if it has enought strengh / propulsion to move. And also, apart from all of that, atleast for me, you are a different type of youtuber because is not like i feel like seeing a dude doing experiments on a game (which is objectively what i'm doing) but you have that way of talking, the happyness on your expression that the video feels like i'm talking to a friend or seeing a friend doing goofy aaah stuff that's cool, and it really makes the feeling of seeing this video more comfortably than boring or tiring. And i'm honestly a big fan of your content not only in this gaming channel, but also in your musical channel. And i'm always really excited of seeing the new videos that you come up. (sorry for typos, i'm spanish, but i'm using all my knowledge i have from academy to write this purely by myself)

Why im still watching this. Its technical and if you're doing something else simultaneously, like crafting something, it is really relaxing, and you're not sitting in full silence.

i keep watching these because i tend to listen to videos sort of like a podcast sometimes while doing something else and with this video type in particular i don't have to watch too closely because you describe everything in good enough detail for me to get what's happening
