Today in China, it's time for a new leader to rise. From the mountains of Shanxi Yan Xishan will make gather his forces and begin the process to transforming his clique from a mere Warlord State, to one capable of leading the nation.
Along the way the great Chinese Power Struggle will reach it's apex as both Yan and Chiang will vie for control for the republic, all while the Japanese make their preparations. Some unlikely allies will be found in this struggle for dominance...

One of the most interesting things about Shanxi is if you don't do the stsrting political focus, you csn get the Kaiserreich, Manchuria(Fengtian Government) leader. He always will have "Quartermaster" trait. He is the starting democratic leader of Shanxi which is why he gets purged when you do the first focus.

While yes he has the portrait of Zhang Zuolin, he’s called Zhang *Shen* instead. Also Zhang Zuolin is dead, he has been dead since 1928.

Past few DLCs have been super half baked and not well integrated with past DLCs, one of the more egregious examples is that if Portugal does the Popular Front Bloc, a post civil war Soviet Union that doesn't have a faction has no option to join that faction, but their puppets do, which leads to them breaking free and joining Portugals faction

Btw Wutaishan mountain near which Taiyuan is located is regarded as sacred in some Chinese myths. So it would indeed be a nice idea for a capital.

I’ve played Shanxi a few times before and as shown in this video, it’s not bad. I did opposition and got Japan to hoover up all the land then give it to me in the peace deal, keeping the cool black color. However, this method is better if you don’t want to invade China at all. Plus, out of all the warlords it’s quite decent. Since I’ve played every warlord but Yunnan, I’d say that the rankings for warlords are like this: 1. Guangxi 2. Sinkiang (you can conquer the others from the start like commie China can but since it’s quite useless territory it’s kind of meh until cored) 3. Shanxi (you can border conflict East Heibei or Beijing very easy to stop Japan’s expansion while you build up) 4. Ma (they’re okay but quite weak, only bonus is a cavalry genius and a good position to immediately take out commie China) 5. Yunnan (bad position, small pop, bad industry, only bonus is starting fascism to make civil war faster - maybe you could kill Gunagxi with extreme patience and micro but still very bad) If someone here is enough of a masochist to play Yunnan to make it good, then tell me how wrong I am lol

Shanxi is one my favourite warlord since i like his real life story, i typically play communist nation so i did a communist Shanxi run. I don't cheese the game minus going for space marine one in awhile. I did this run the hard way and conquer china the hard way. I fought Communist China for territory, suck Stalin dick for extra gun and took out Xi bei san ma and Sinkiang. Fought the Japanese with China and push them out of mainland asia. Fought China which was in a faction with Thailand for some reason (road to 56 stuff), and win. United China under the PRC under Yan. Go on for 2-3 for a world conquest.
