What Does Shogun Japan Actually Allow You to Do? - Hoi4

Today in Japan, following a successful coup by the Young Officers the country will be transformed back into a Shogunate, which will choose to follow the Northern Strike doctrine. The Land of the Rising Sun must put itself into position to be capable of taking on the Soviet bear.
Along the way new alliances will be found, old grievances will come to end as new friendships are founded. But will it be enough, will the modern Shogunate ready for when duty calls.

@@thebuttonman9901 Yeah, but in the Shogunate Era, the Emperor was more like a powerless figurehead. Would be cool if "Modern Shogunate" gives you a Shogun as leader and Hirohito as national modifier for stability (+60%) like the democratic path does.

Here's an interesting idea: Divide the Shogunate and Emperor Showa focuses into their own separate sub-branches. Maybe "Modern Shogunate" could be similar to Ethiopia's "Federal Empire" focus, dividing Japan into puppet states that develop on their own faster than they would united, and "Emperor Showa" simply gives Hirohito new traits for extra PP, extra daily Compliance gain, or to remove the debuffs from the Army/Navy balancing mechanic.

Ngl dope idea. The only thing that could go worse is dockyard output. Because you gave your dockyards to puppets it would be impossible to make a navy to rival USA. If you code so it does not give dockyards to puppets it could be awsome.

You ignored the main benefit of going this path. Getting the wargoal on China without the Marco polo debufs. You can steamroll Mao and China. Then turn your focus on the Soviets. They will still have tons of debufs. Mongolia and Tanu Tuva will have supply depots so you connect it to your rail road and then push to cut the 1 main soviet railroad and all there troops in the western half will be on low supply. You can mop up that whole side and just push along the railway until you get to Stalingrad.

The thing about Militarist Japan easily having Total Mob and Spiritual Mob really reflects IRL Japan. Should've added a Shogun tho', Sadao Araki would suffice. I like Showa Restoration path more.

I feel like each nation should have a unique bit, and Japan having a free Total Mobilization is definitely important, and not even enough to make Japan stand out among majors. If you factor in bicycle battalions, sure.

the way to fix this branch is to lock it behind Japan's Inter-Service Rivalry decisions. The Imperial Army wanted to attack the USSR while the Imperial Navy wanted to attack the USA and European possession in Southeast Asia so picking the Prioritize Steel For Guns Decision should send you down this branch. This branch should have big buffs for the Army while having massive debuffs for the Navy and should lead to the Navy starting a civil war if you start loosing against the USSR or don't beat the USSR in a certain amount of time. There should also be an option to peace-out with the USSR if you take specific provinces and hold them for a set amount of time. Or, you should switch over to this branch if you win the Test The Soviets Decision border conflict.

I usually pick this path over the historical one. It gives you 3 things you want more of as Japan, PP, research and civs. You still get China and you can get a good piece of the ussr (best I've done is as far west as the line Astrakhan/Kaukasus) before going to war with allies. The only downside is not getting french indochina.

I wasn't aware of the declare war decision for shogun Japan but unless they've patched it you should also be able to use the coordinated strike mission to get around the NAPs

The only good thing about the japanese focuses is getting a Zero production variant: you get a free (well, you exchange a lot of time for it) Improved Small Carrier Airframe with tier-3 engine. It's 1940-s tech that you can get really early. Also you can easily convert it to CAS, lol.

They sometimes also go democratic, but when they go democratic, most of the time they lose against fascist Japan in the civil war or the civial war takes until like 1944.

I played this path recently. Used the provocation to invade China without marco debuffs which meant I was done by late 38. Only then joined the axis so all my troops and navy were in position to invade UK as soon as Danzig or War fires. Dealt with the allies. Invaded the Soviets was pretty easy. Waited around for US to declare war since I can invade from Canada but it was mid 42 and they still hadn't declared so I called it there. Although I share the sentiment that this path really needs to be expanded. The entire Japanese focus tree needs a rework in my opinion. After By Blood Alone they now have the worst focus tree of the major powers in my opinion.
