You have an EC tuner, and a silincer!! The idea behind the limb saver is to give people who don't have the money for expensive tuners and silincers a way to tune barrel harmonics. It is not better than a silencers or a tuner. It's just cheaper. It is also not designed to work in conjunction with a silencer. It is also not better than reloading, it's just cheaper and faster than shooting hundreds of rounds in ladder tests. First find a load your rifle likes, then use the limbsaver to dampen barrel harmonics. If your rifle won't shoot any better than MOA with a silencer or an EC tuner, you have a bad barrel or ammo!!! My limbsavers, (plural) regularly reduce my group sizes by at least 1/4 MOA. I have them on everything from 22lr to 458 SOCOM. And I also reload.

Thanks for doing this video. While placing this on barrel no doubt impacts harmonics, I have a theory it operates on diminishing returns. By that I mean that if you have a long and thin profile barrel, it will show the biggest impact. If you have a thicker/shorter/stiffer barrel, then it will have less of an impact. If you have a suppressor or muzzle brake with stiff barrel, then even less of an impact and so on.

I’m with ya on that. Idk if they work for sure or not but I’d guess that they can in some situations but if there’s a brake or a suppressor on the rifle, which usually improves accuracy, due to either the weight or possibly the way the gasses exit around the bullet, that there won’t be as much of an improvement with a deresonator

Well done, when it comes to rifle accuracy, it's very subjective. If you're lucky to have "a shooter" you're fortunate. And yes reloading is one way to reduce any group size in half. But it takes time...at both benches.

Having it right against the actual silencer makes sense in giving you the best group. The whole premise of barrel harmonics is having the bullet leaving the rifle at the mid / center point of barrel movement. In essence it's 13 +/- inches from the end. If you got it for $10 bucks and just for giggles ream it out and try to fit it on your silencer. The browning boss system used a weighted end cap that could be turned and set for best barrel harmonics. I have a browning a bolt in 25 wssm and a limb saver deresonator. It tighten my group about a quarter of an inch @ 100 yrds.

Stop it, your groups are fine. What little I know about harmonics, even that tape you wrapped around the barrel can affect them. It looks like that rifle shoots pretty good for two shots and then it’s warm enough that the third one slightly wandered. If I’m not mistaking it did that every time. Even the slightly wild shot was a good shot. You only need that 1st shot my friend, at least in most cases, one well placed shot is all it takes. I zero in and don’t really worry about groups. The barrel is going to change with temperatures increase, the flutes do enhance that effect , less steel to resist heating up to gain a lighter barrel. It does also cool quicker. If you want tight groups , I’ve always had better results with a thicker barrel. The main thing to improve grouping if you just have to do it is the trigger and your trigger finger control. I once had a 22 hornet that my grandfather rechambered for 222 and worked the trigger (he was a machinist) it was a pre 1964 Winchester model 64. He stamped an additional number 2 in front of 22 hornet and that rifle drove a few people insane trying to figure out what it was. Aside from all that, it was the lightest trigger I’ve ever experienced. I could ball up my jacket up and lay that rifle across the hood of my truck and shoot 100yard dime sized 5 round groups about every time. It was that trigger. There is no substitute for a sweet trigger. They make or break a gun for me personally. I would forget the gadgets and stick to the basics if you want to see groups where every hole touches. Maybe use a rifle designed more for punching hole down range rather than a sport model with a lightened barrel on it. I’m not meaning to be critical though, I enjoyed the video. That’s the first time I’ve ever even heard about those things you were trying. The concept is interesting I agree.

Your rifle is awesome as it is, you just need to shoot different ammo loads and bullet weights to see what it likes best for premium accuracy. And just because the ammo box is ''pretty", or says max or super doesn't mean its the best for your particular setup.

I never found all the work (fun) not to be absolutely worth it! Respectfully, That set up should be capable of groups much tighter than that consistently. However , I have never shot with a suppressor so I cannot speak to what it may or may not do to a given load. I would be willing to bet even so, it would be a matter of tweaking the load to find what the combination preferred.

2. thick O-rings will work as well your just changing the harmonics. I have a customer that shoots on the US F-Class team and when I change his barrels i thread the muzzle for 2 thick threaded washers that resemble a reloading die jam nut that have graduations on them he tunes the barrel and locks them down and swears they work well for him. I always work up my best load then try to tune it better, on factory ammo you get what you get. Your suppressor has already changed the harmonics of the barrel so i'll bet you're going to get minimal changes. There is a reason top comp. accuracy shooters don't use fluted barrels, it is because if the flutes aren't 100% perfectly spaced and 100% perfect depth 100% perfect length when the barrel heats it will shift. Barrels shift with heat anyway and flutes just intensify that effect. I always recomend to customers for maximum accuracy no fluting or carbon fiber barrels and I prefer a #3 minimum contour stainless steel barrels over chrome moly and i have a serious dislike for short barrels. Stainless is easier to thread and ream and you get a better finish with the added wet weather protection. Costs a little more upfront, but it's well worth it in the long run.

Browning A-Bolt Boss in .300 Win Mag, the Boss worked great. Basically allows me to tune the barrel to a factory load instead of tuning a handload to the barrel. The key is to buy factory ammo in quantity of the same lot number. If you change anything; lot number, manufacturer, etc, you have to retune the boss. But what a joy; more time at the range! 🙂 The Boss also acted as a muzzle brake, reducing felt recoil. I wish Browning would bring it back. This sounds like the same concept.

That device is just a rabbit hole. Some target shooting disciplines add barrel weights to improve accuracy by reducing the movement of the barrel. The science behind it is more complex because it’s related to when the front and the back of the bullet disengage from the rifling in the barrel.

Nice groups for factory ammo. Fluted barrels have 3 advantages. Extra surface area to improve cooling. Reduced weight. Extra rigidity for given diameter. I don’t think it would affect your resonance point. I picked slight point of impact changes, 2nd and last groups looked best. One advantage is it’s probably going to help if your rifle falls over on a flat surface. And, The old saying, “You’ll never know unless you give it a go”. 🤞

Never tried one on a fluted barrel, couple of things, the tape wasn't test shot and the movement was extremely course, I find moving it 1mm at a time finds the sweet spot and 2mm can easily add 10mm (1/2inch) to the group size. To answer some of the comments on here, I agree load development is normally best but some landowners insist factory loads only to be covered by proof house testing to prevent litigation

My mate John Langham won the Queen's prize at Bisley in 1966 for beating the world at 1000yds. Ive got a photo of this cup: more like a silver bird bath with a knight and a horse cover. This was using standard army rounds with a barrel set up to shoot on the 'upstroke'. The roto-forged barrel was made longer than needed and cut back until the right harmonics were reached. As there are now masses of different weights of bullets and calibrers, the manufacturers should set the gun up and give recomended loads. Then muzzle brakes and moderators will have to be factored in by the shooter. It's not difficult, but ALWAYS try the gun before adding anything! Don't get 'magnumitus' a lighter bullet does not wear a barrel as fast and could give a better MOA which will kill just as well with better placement and at long range target shooting.

In layman's terms it interrupts vibrational harmonics very quickly to keep the barrel from flexing before the projectile has left the barrel...........make no mistake about it though, you do not need that huge piece of rubber to achieve this, you can use the appropriate size coolant hose, rubber or silicone to do the same thing, you know the coolant hose you buy for water pumps etc 😎😎. 👍👍

its just the notion of mass damping an harmonics, however the utility is very much going to be limited by the fundamental rigidity of the barrel and your shooting stance, i.e. if you have a thick barrel rather than a thin one, then you will see less function, also you have greater chance of seeing function if you remove the silencer (which is doing some mass damping anyway) and shoot without using any support other than your arms, but really then its more about the CoM of the gun relative to your supporting arm, which the silencer is doing to some degree by moving the CoM of the gun toward your supporting arm\hand - but either way being rubber is idiotic - like the old adage, " there is fishing tackle for catching fish and fishing tackle for catching fishermen".

I generally shoot distance and tune to no greater than 2moa but try for under 1.5 moa. Thanks for the test . I am so surprised you gave up a Cortina tuner to try that ! I get you want to use a suppressor.Hand loads for me only in a great caliber like the .22 -.250 . I m assuming that the action is bedded and tight !

The tuner brake is for another rifle that's getting some work done on. I just tried it on the 22 250 worked well. It was just loud, that's all. I don't reload, but I am buying the components to start. Thanks for watching.

I am betting that its not making a lot of difference because you have that long suppressor hanging off the end of the barrel. that, at the very end of the barrel, will have a lot more effect on barrel vibrations than the deresonator ever could have.

I have used them for 10 years, mostly to keep from breaking glass in equipment cabs. Put it at the end of the barrel, makes a good rubber bumper. Have not noticed much on accuracy.

I would say you had about a 33%-50% improvement on the second setting. I would put it back at that spot and make smaller adjustments.

I can tell you from experience it works with both my .22rimfire/springer air rifle. Went from 1/2” to stacking with both. Don’t know how it works it just does. Try more than one. I’ve seen hunting shows and vids where hunters had 2 sometimes 3.

Buy a Concentricity guage, run every round through it to group....0-1 , 1-2, 2-3 thou. Then use the 0-1 thou for group testing. This eliminates "bent" bullets that do not run true to the bore By using this method you will reduce those nasty flyers which ruin a group. You will find out of every box of 20 there will be at least 4 or 5 rounds measurig way past 3 thou runout...those rounds will destroy your group and will not show the true accuracy potential of your rifle and ammo combination. I do it to my ammo and flyers are now pretty rare.. good luck, and all the best from Adelaide South Australia..

I have several. The first thing i see is that yours is much looser than mine. Mine is super tight on my barrel. I have one on a CZ455 17HMR varmint, Bergara BMR 22lr, CZ 527 17 Hornet varmint, and a savage B17 precision 17HMR. I know for a fact they work.

Obviously the suppressor has it's own effect on barrel harmonics. It's limiting your range of adjustment. Maybe you would have different results on a 22 inch or longer barrel. Browning and ruger installed tuners pn the end of the barrel. There's data on how it actually works.

Thank you for doing this. I have been wondering if it would help my favorite 20” 7-08. An inch group is the best I can squeeze out. Looks like squeezing it against the suppressor is the way to go. Subscribed

Ive had better luck with those closer to the stock with fluted barrels....7mm-08 and .243 both mossberg ATR 100 (not known for accuracy). You're better off with pencil marks than all that tape, tape acts as a dampener itself.

I don't think, that vibration damper will show tighter groups on the gun in particular, as it has a fluted barrel ,making the barrel stiffer. Also more importantly barrel vibrations kept to a minimum.

You've heard slide whistle's? Similar concept. I studied and played trumpet. This is physics. The size and placement of a mass can cancel out harmonics in a wave. In music we perceive we hear a note. Guess what its just like sight, no two people see or hear things the same. in music there are overtones plus and minus on.a given note. The idea is to cancel out the overtones or harmonics to make a pure easier to play note. Read up to get all the jargon. nodes and "Tuned". Long range shooters have be.en at this for years. Observing your video. You have roughly less than a 1 moa rifle/ammo combination. Nice shooting. The tuner worked better towards the end of the barrel. You're thinking. Will the tuner be applicable to a hunting scenario? Opinions vary, a 1 moa or less is most adequate.

I believe the gun does not like the ammo, and the suppressor extended your barrel length.. reduced results..verify with your best settings and at lest a 5 shot group. Try with sup to see where it's moving and how much it's opening. Just my opinion and thoughts. Great video 🫡

Now, I’m gonna TRY to educate you on barrel harmonics. All barrels will whip as the bullets travels down the barrel. The warmer it is outside, the more of a whipping action it will have. So these things are worthless. You would have to change the position daily and maybe multiple times a day. That suppressor affects the barrel harmonics. You would be best without anything on your barrel and work your load up so it will quit a wadded home. So stop with the barrel attachments and work on your reloading skills. You will end up with a gun that wads a tiny hole. Those flutes have NOTHING to do with that rubber thing. It does stiffen a barrel so the harmonics are different. So again, don’t waste money on these gimmicks. A good 22-250 should wad a tiny, tiny hole. So again, work on tour load and throw that rubber thing away.

1st: Three rounds is not enough, you need at least five per grouping assessment. 2nd: The fluted barrel will definately impact any impact the device might generate. 3rd: The longer and/or thinner a barrel might be, the odds of impacting the reverberation of the barrel will grow with the device. On a shorter or thicker barrel, not as much, if any. 4th: A .22 rifle will have a pretty low Power Factor, so there may not be much barrel reverberation to actually correct. 5th: Since this is literally a physics test, and not a marksmanship test, the rifle should be locked down, taking any shooter error out of the equation. 6th: The distance to target should be at the scope/rifle ZEROING distance. Beyond that, you are allowing factors of adjustment and environment to come in. When the cartridge is fired, the identical energy is released each time; and the bullet doesn't care how far it travels to impact. What matters is how much the barrel reverberates, and being able to discern any difference, so the shorter the better. It is telling that your groups are 'off', in a negative manner for the test. Again, this is not a marksmanship test, but rather a physics test. Marksmanship needs to be removed from the test. 7th: The test should also be taken with the barrel being DEAD horizontal, not allowing the tiniest deviation. Adjust the height of the target accordingly, not the barrel. My call: This device may work to dampen reverberation on longer barreled/ more energetic rounds. The longer a barrel is, the more likely a reverberation may come into play BEFORE the round passes the muzzle. The more energetic a round is, the greater the briscence of energy upon its containing device (the barrel) before the round passes the muzzle. Variables matter. Isolation matters. Parameters matter. In your 'test' it appeared more a marksmanship repeatability test, rather than could the tuning device act upon your specific barrel. Once accuracy of the barrel/ firearm is qualified, THEN marksmenship comes into play, which is the most blatant variable left. If the manufacturer did not include the points I raised, they were deficient in explaining the physics of its tuning. Or... they'd rather depend on psychology to simply sell an item. The more ACCURATELY designed and manufactured a SPECIFIC BARREL is, the less likely a tuning device would be needed. I hope this helped. (I own several dozen firearms and several $5,000 scopes)
