Hey, hopefully I'm not too late but if you want some tips and mistakes I made using lights here they are: If you're growing high-light garden herbs like oregano, cilantro, etc... Definitely go for at least 2x 24w bulbs. As a rule of thumb you want 20-35 watts per square foot for a sun-loving plant. This guy is placing the lights way too close to the plant, I made that mistake, they'll eventually burn the leaves. You want to read the manufacturers note that comes with the bulb to get the right height, but with an LED it's at the very least 25cm above the plant. Also, never mist the plant the light on, especially if it's close to the bulb, it'll burn the shit out of the leaves, I killed an entire plant like that. Cheers, happy growing.
@sickvic39097 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks, my legal weed was burning leaves at 2'' ( 1 grow t-12 and 1 reg fluorescent) moved up to about 10" they look better. Couldn't figure out at first, you confirmed it.
@dtraindaimyo33777 жыл бұрын
Troublein 421 Troublein 421 Wrong growing LEDs should be used to the manufacturers specs, they all are calibrated differently via the optics, however it's usually for around 25cm. CFLs don't burn a plant nearly as easy can be placed close like you said, but even with CFLs over 50w I personally wouldn't recommend closer than 10cm. I've had issues with cilantro going close which is far more sensitive than the bud you're growing, it's my canary. I was talking about misting mainly anyway, because misting while the light is on allows light to pass through the droplets on the leaves, which concentrates the energy to a single point on the leaf like a magnifying glass.
@dtraindaimyo33777 жыл бұрын
Sick Vic 10 inches is a little high for a flourscent, go more like 4-6. I was talking LEDs when I said 25cm. My bad, but if 10" is still working for you that's cool too I guess.

I always wondered about those blue/red LED lights.... It seems the newer generation of LEDs called "High CRI" (High Color Rendering Index) used in high end flashlights would be much better. The small Zebralight brand flashlight I have carried for 3-4yrs is rated at 85 CRI. That basically means it accurately reproduces 85% of the Suns natural light spectrum. It basically looks like daylight, with Zero blue or red tint.
@SleestaksRule8 жыл бұрын
+WisconsinEric I've been testing out a few LED flashlights and love them. My favorite is by Durapower - 500 lumen and rechargeable with a USB connection. My least favorite is also by the same company which they just sent me. It's a spotlight that is supposed to be 320 lumen and it's awful. I'd love to try some of the higher end ones.
@WisconsinEric8 жыл бұрын
***** Again they look just like daylight, none of that blue tint found in nearly all LED flashlights. I also have a Zebralight High CRI headlamp. The High CRI LEDs are far easier on my eyes when camping as my eyes become adjusted to the natural light from the campfire and candles... Blue and purple tinted headlamps are a complete buzzkill under those conditions as they seem harsh and completely unnatural to me, and they do more to temporarily destroy my night vision. There are also "neutral" and "warm" tinted LED flashlights/headlamps on the market, but not all of them are High CRI.

CFL reptile bulbs are fucking amazing for getting frosty buds at a low energy cost they have plenty of UV for increasing THC levels, use as side lighting that way you can use them vertically and try and fix a homemade reflector aswell and you'll get bottom nugs frosty and slightly fatter for making hash or concentrates just remember to have the side lights at a certain distance for you'll have your buds growing slightly horizontal if your side lighting is stronger than the main grow light from above but this isn't too much of a problem for the very bottom nugs for they will barley be getting much light at all form the main light. if anyone else has done this method specifically with any white strains please comment how it went...

"natural light" is like saying natural heat. No offense but it isn't scientific, all light is the same. Light is just electromagnetic energy, the sun is emitting it as a black body (identical as an incandescent bulb). Other lights like CFL and LED don't produce all the wavelengths equally, they emit more of one type of light than other (most of the time this is deliberate). Such as in the grow lights being mostly red with a bit of blue, it's because plants use these colours and have been found to not use green or other things like infrared or UV. You can stand under the sun and feel some nice infrared light, or stand under a powerful halogen and feel the exact same thing, hope that makes sense. Both are actually identical, you are feeling infrared light. Some things are produced in our environment by themselves, but we start a lot of them ourselves to use them (just how we burn wood in a fireplace).

I tried them and they were 8 watts on the dot. I'll try to update this bean plant asap since it actually is getting beans now. That's fast!
@ripodop1128 жыл бұрын
+SleestaksRule They should dial them down a LITTLE to make it last longer and no blow up in smoke, but you the actual power consumption should be 70-80% of the 'advertised' wattage. The advertised wattage for grow lights is simply what the actual LED is capable of [supposedly...]. The problem is they usually go cheap on the driver [power supply], which is the expensive part, so if you have a '36w bulb' [Ie: 36W of LEDs] but a 10w driver, you're not going to actually draw 36watts, but few than ten. There is NO consistency in the business and it's easy to just lie. The only way to actual tell is our wonderful friend the kill-o-watt [Or to maybe look at the parts...] As for the household bulbs. The advertised wattage is almost always the actual power draw. However when they say 'equal to 60watt incandescent' they're talking about lumen output. Anyway, that's my understanding. Regardless, thanks for the wattage info! I'll be subscribing!

Suggested height: 2ft ~ 3ft (distance from plants) is what the manufactur says
@SleestaksRule8 жыл бұрын
+RICHROOFER1 Yeah, but that's too far. Keep it as close as possible. I'll probably have it higher above it as the leaves spread out so it covers more.

Question: would this help seeds to germinate? Mostly flower seeds.
@marcoantonio0785 жыл бұрын
Germination is best done in the dark, my advice for fast high success rate germination is drop your seeds into a glass of water overnight, next day or so move the now germ'd seed into paper towelon a saucer or bowl, soak with water then the day after that use a pencil make a small hole in soildrop the seed in untill it is covered leaving ionly the the seed casing visible. In have pretty much 100% success rate using this method.

hey thanks for the video, i was wondering why did you let the bean 16 hours?, and another question, when you compare the led bean vs the natural light bean, the result was that the natural light was better?
@SleestaksRule7 жыл бұрын
I run all my indoor grow lights 16 hours on, 8 hours off. Lettuce you can get away with 12/12. The LED one did better than the natural light but the natural light was only on a widow sill which is why it stretched.

So the Window plant was seedling at the same time as indoor plant?.. If so, why are they in different size potters if you are making a comparison? Just Sayin.

would it be great to have a 'probe' in normal sunlight to have some kind of comparison to what extent the light influenced the growing. Yes, it obviously helped, but whats the comparison to normal daylight....

Don Thompson Daylight rated lamps are expensive
@dtroystopper27 жыл бұрын
Because 13 watts from a CFL is different than 13 Watts from an LED is different than 13 Watts from an HID is different than 13 watts from an incandescent.. it all depends on the bulb type.
@1invag4 жыл бұрын
@@dtroystopper2 no 13 watts is 13 watts lol. Thr light produced and the type of bulb used will effect plant growth. But the wattage is the wattage, has nothing to do with how well something will grow something. Just comes down to the spectrum of light the bulb emits and its par rating. Wattage, lux, lumens... all meaningless with regards photosynthesis lol. Wattage is just how much energy it uses, lux and lumens are just brightness as precieved by the human eye.

I'm growing some trees from seeds I was wondering with this kind of light help the seeds germinate or it doesn't make it matter at this point until they grow
@unplugged33255 жыл бұрын
Lisette Martinez ik it was 6 months ago but keep your seedling in a dark spot until it sprouts up out the soil then put the light on it but a lot of people have different methods just find the one that works best
@braydenkenney33135 жыл бұрын
Depends on the plant actually. Some plants need a shallow sow and some light. Some need darkness. Look up your particular plants germination instructions.

How much does it cost to run the light per day in the uk cheers & thanks for a great Video 😄
@68046Matt7 жыл бұрын
12 watts is about what a nightlight would take, so approximately .0001 penny a day lol
@ssaxe01s7 жыл бұрын
Assuming 16 hrs per day use, it's actually ~1 unit (kwh) of electricity per 5 and half days. at 15c a unit, it's 2.7c a day or 10 dollars a year.

Jarlei Sassi correct
@ajescott5238 жыл бұрын
Jarlei Sassi nope. if you are growing a specific "herb", you are looking at 18/6 for vegg. 12/12 for flower. the blue led's promote short stalky growth, the red generates expansion and fruit.
