Thanks for the promotion. This is my 5th year in my earthship. Every cold day I enter it..I thank Mike Reynolds.

Can we see a wiring diagram from Victron for the Earthship? I'd love to see the products integrated into making this design possible.

Love it! The earthships in New Mexico are amazing, I'm glad to see the inspiration make it to Europe!

Agreed on the house design Failure that someone else mentioned- as an aside, I designed a high efficiency house for a timber Frame House Manufacturer that provided 95% of the Benefits of the Canadian R 2000 construction specifications for 5% of the Cost, and expecting 100% of energy needs from wind and Solar for u h of the world unfortunately is dangerously unrealistic. Even if sited in optimum places. The three Basics are Location, Location, and Location. I lived Off Grid on a Smallholding in the Northern Hemisphere, and experienced a period from September one year through to the following April, with very heavy Overcast, and very low wind speeds. If I hadn’t had a Diesel Backup Generator, All the Storage Batteries would have been as scrap as all the automatic speed warning signs with Solar Panels charging their batteries did - they were all dead inside a few weeks . So all such Projects and experiments must have last resort Backups. The only real option for me- Most people really aren’t suited to pursuing this, is moving to harvest the Wind and the Sun, which for me is a Sailboat, and in addition to an inboard Diesel engine for Propulsion, with a high output alternator, I had hoped to exclude the red for a built in Diesel Generator, after a very deep dive into what is needed, there really is no option but to include that level of Backup as well, as you just annot Faff around with stupidities like Electronic Propulsion in the Marine Environment, because it just doesn’t take any Prisoners. Frankly, the Main use of the Generator is going to be running it to make sure it kept in excellent condition, so a few days a week with a few hours under decent load. To get a worthwhile Service Life Out of Batteries, sad to say most people just don’t have a clue how to treat them properly. Both AGM and Lifepo4 batteries can be destroyed by clueless people within 3 years. I “Think” I can get really well made Lifepo4 Batteries to a 15 Year Service Life based on present knowledge, but not many are built that well, with big enough internal Busbars and cabling.AGM of high enough quality, I know enough to get an achievable 30 year Service Life. So I’m aiming for a twin Housebank Battery Solution, Main Bank AGM, Secondary Bank Lifepo4 a very Heavy Duty Bank to attempt to break through 15 years and get the data needed to get them up to 30 years. Bottom line though is no current or foreseeable Battery Technology is anywhere close to ready for the promises that are being extremely prematurely promised, and worse, are actually being Criminally mis Sold imho. Also there continues to be the question, Can Lithium actually be Recycled? tbh, I don’t exactly trust the people selling shares in their Recycling operations, whereas Lead is indeed fully Recyclable, and has a long track record of being done. 🤔 Time, will indeed Tell. 👍Bob.

Why is the building design a failure? They are totally off grid and use the sun to heat their water that they have gathered from the rain and solar to power their electronics. A building can’t power things. They have no need for any service connections.

If they need so much pv and energy it's because they failed their house's design.

Regardless of a building design, how can a building create electricity to run things like computers, lights and water pumps? It gets rather dark and cold in Luxembourg during the winter months so they have used every bit of roof space available. We wouldn’t be demonstrating this building if we at Victron Energy didn’t think it was impressive and worth it.

It's a bit strange in my opinion, that a project like this, with a primary focus on sustainability and recycling and reusing of all parts of the building, has chosen to use lithium batteries. For this project it would have made much more sense to use lead acid battery, which are already 99+ % recyclable and can be found made in Europe, since the application is stationery, weight is not a concern. Alternatively reusing decommissioned EV-batteries would have fitted nice in this project too.

Totally agree, they totally failed somewhere, I think they do not have the sustainability spirit, they just follow some kind of fashion.

About decommissioned ev batteries, most of them are not suitable, lifepo4 got to be used in a house for security reasons. And nearly no ev use lifepo4 nowadays.

Knit picking at its finest. Amazing you've turned a blind eye to literally 100+ amazing things this project has achieved - yet the only thing you can take away from it all is that? Mind blowing.

@@bonesjonesrsa9452 you might think so, but in the end the battery is the heart of every victron system and the video is victron promoting victron. Maybe Victron should focus a bit more on the philosophy behind the energy system and the design choices they made in this particular project. Maybe it becomes clear to everyone why this storage technology is chosen here.

They are using Pylontech batteries which are plug and play for the victron system without the need for a seperate BMS if they were using lead acid. They have gone for reliability for this part which is completely understandable.
